I decided to go to Sapporo today to eat soup curry, as it is my day off and I have a 4-day weekend. Unfortunately, the neighboring soup curry restaurant was unexpectedly closed for the day. So, I decided to go to this other nearby restaurant instead. It was raining and thundering in Sapporo today, which was a bit unpleasant. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was surprised to see that it was already open. I ordered the "Chicken and Eggplant Curry" with extra rice and a side of smoked egg. The soup was not too spicy, making it easy for anyone to enjoy the flavors of the chicken and vegetables. The smoked egg was okay, nothing special. I added extra spices to the soup from the table condiments, which enhanced the flavor. The chicken was tender and delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the generous amount of mushrooms in the curry. Towards the end of the meal, I mixed the rice into the soup, which was a nice touch. Overall, the meal was delicious and satisfying. The restaurant seemed to be popular as the parking lot was full even on a weekday. I will definitely look into the history of this "Ajanta" style restaurant in the future.

Ajanta Main House Location: Higashi-ku, Sapporo Visit Date: August 15, 2023 Dish: Tori Nus Curry Price: 1500 yen Established in 1975, this restaurant claims to be the original soup curry shop. This was my first time trying soup curry in Sapporo, the birthplace of the dish. The Tori Nus Curry for 1500 yen was flavorful and had a spicy kick from the pepper. The dish featured two tender chicken drumsticks, which were cooked to perfection and very delicious.

Ajanta is a soup curry restaurant with delicious soup. The ordering process is a bit different from other soup curry restaurants, as you can adjust the spiciness yourself. The rich soup made from chicken and the combination of vegetables are excellent. The mushrooms are also amazing. It can get crowded during lunchtime, but it's a restaurant worth visiting.

On a regular day off, I arrived at the Okurayama Airport to pick up Toki Air, then walked for about 30 minutes to a shop that is a pioneer of soup curry. I arrived around 1:30 pm with only one customer already there. The table seats were all clear, but because I had a large load of camera equipment, I was guided to a counter seat where there was no space to put my belongings. I asked if I could put my belongings on a table seat if it was available, but the staff immediately asked, "Have you decided on your order?" I hadn't looked at the menu yet, so it was a bit off-putting. The first impression was terrible, but the curry that arrived was truly admirable. It had a slightly oily appearance and a refreshing spiciness that brought out the richness. The ingredients were simple - chicken, carrots, and bell peppers - but each one was very large and had a strong presence. The chicken had a good meaty texture, the carrots were sweet, and the bell peppers were fresh. The combination of beer's sweetness and the soup's spiciness was also a good match. The staff's lack of attention to individual customers was a downside, but the food itself was excellent.

It's been a while! It was Saturday, so I went to Ramen curry. My partner had the usual Kashimir curry. I chose a small size for the rice. Oh, it's so delicious. This is true herbal cuisine! The aroma of the spices is amazing. I love the balance of the soup and oil!

I went to Hokkaido and tried soup curry for the first time. I visited Moerenuma Park and found this restaurant with the highest rating, so I decided to try it! I ordered curry with minced lamb meat. The first bite was amazing - completely different from Tokyo's soup curry! The amount of soup was luxurious, and as I continued eating, towards the end, I felt a bit of heartburn from the oil and couldn't finish it all, but it was delicious!

There are several Ajanta restaurants in Sapporo, with two lineages: one from the disciples of the founder and the other from the founder's ex-wife. The main branch of Ajanta in Motomachi was opened by the founder after his divorce. The current owner is a disciple, and it had been 10 years since my last visit. The taste seemed slightly saltier than before, but I decided to visit again. The restaurant was busy even on a weekday lunch. I ordered the "Chicken and Vegetables" curry with extra soup. The dish included a large broccoli and cauliflower, but I noticed two shiny eggplants. The soup had the familiar Ajanta spice taste but was slightly salty. The vegetables were mostly deep-fried, which was unusual for Ajanta. The dish was delicious but the oiliness from frying affected the soup. I prefer the traditional Ajanta style without deep-frying. Overall, the meal was tasty, but the change in cooking style was disappointing.

I challenged the original medicinal herb curry for the first time! I lined up from a little after 11 o'clock. I waited 50 minutes until I could sit down. I topped it with chicken and pickled vegetables. There are spices on the table to adjust the spiciness, but it's already spicy without adding anything. (Probably about as spicy as level 4 at other restaurants) The lassi is thick and the mint accent is excellent. As expected, the medicinal herbs are effective and seem to be good for the body. It is delicious and enjoyable.

I am a big fan of Ajanta Indian Curry and other branches. Everyone has their own preferences, and while many people prefer this branch, I do not intend to criticize that. I recently visited this branch to compare flavors. I ordered the chicken curry. The main difference I noticed was that the soup here is weaker. Perhaps it's because of the large volume, but it was significantly different. Because of this, I felt the sweetness more strongly, which is not to my liking. The spices were mainly rosemary and cinnamon, with no other noticeable differences from the Indian curry branch. Both clearly share the same roots. They may each have their own arguments about being the original, but personally, I prefer the Indian curry branch. Both have likely evolved over time, with one focusing on replicating the original recipe and the other staying true to the recipe while evolving to provide delicious curry that fits the times. That's the difference I felt. I want to emphasize that I do not intend to deny the opinions of those who prefer this branch. It was actually very popular.

Ajanta, which can be said to be the origin of soup curry. I was a bit embarrassed to visit for the first time. It was Sunday afternoon, and there were 4-5 groups waiting in line. Upon entering the restaurant, you first write your name and number of people on the board to the right. The tables where the board is placed are for waiting. There are several chairs lined up from the entrance to the waiting area. As soon as you enter the restaurant, a fragrant smell of spices fills the air. I wanted to eat a lot of vegetables, so I ordered the vegetable curry. There doesn't seem to be an option for spiciness (they will adjust it if you ask). This time, I had the standard level of spiciness without adjustment. The vegetables were piled high. Broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, carrots, pumpkin, potatoes, shimeji mushrooms. It's a large portion! The soup was also perfectly seasoned. It didn't rely on dashi or umami to cover up, but brought out the aroma and umami of the spices, enhancing the spices as a base. The spiciness was about average, and the balance with the other spices was just right. This would be even more delicious with meat as an ingredient. Hmm, indeed, a renowned restaurant does not lose its luster. In the midst of a proliferation of soup curry restaurants that are just about strong flavors, a restaurant that shows dedication to spices shines brightly. I look forward to visiting again.

I visited Ajanta Sohonke, located in Higashi Ward. When I arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes after opening, the parking lot was already full. I decided to run some errands nearby until a spot opened up. Inside the restaurant, there was a form to write down my name and number of people in my party while waiting for a table. After about a 10-minute wait, I was seated at a table. I had already decided to order the "Tori Curry" from the start. The curry was served in just 10 minutes. The spiciness level could be adjusted by adding spices provided on the table. I added two spoonfuls of spices to make it just right for me. Although the curry didn't have a lot of vegetables, the tender chicken and flavorful soup made it very satisfying. The abundance of spices may have caused me to break a sweat as I ate. Perhaps this curry has metabolism-boosting effects thanks to its medicinal spices. Amazing medicinal curry. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on March 19, 2023. Both my husband and I were hungover that day (laughs). So, we decided to go to Ajanta Sohonke for some soup curry, which is gentle on the body. We're not fans of tomato-based or sour soup curry, but we really enjoy the soup curry here. We ordered two servings of chicken curry, one with extra garlic on top. As always, it was delicious. The rich broth and mild flavor really hit the spot. If you want it spicier, you can add some chili peppers provided at your table. Thank you for the meal!

In the East district, there is a soup curry restaurant called Yakuza Curry that warms up your body from the inside with its medicinal curry. The spiciness level can be adjusted by talking to the staff. I unknowingly ordered the normal spiciness level, even though I usually prefer mild flavors. I managed to finish it somehow, but it wasn't just spicy - it had a lingering heat that reached my body. The portion was generous and I left satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

In Sapporo's Higashi Ward, there is a soup curry restaurant called Ajanta, which is said to be the birthplace of soup curry. The Curry Research Club had not visited this renowned restaurant before, so we need to step up our activities. The restaurant is spacious and has a parking lot, making it easy to visit. It is located near Okadama Airport, so it could be a good choice when using the airport. They open at 11:00, which is great for an early lunch. Looking at the enticing menu, I found myself pondering. When in doubt at a curry restaurant, I remember a quote from a mentor who spent a long time in India, "You can understand curry through lamb." Kashi Miru Curry (1,430 yen) consisted of hand-kneaded lamb meatballs, carrots, and bell peppers. The Lassi (350 yen) had a refreshing minty aftertaste. The lamb meatballs were enveloped in the aroma of lamb. The curry itself had a smooth texture and you could taste the spices well. It was a unique and delicious curry. I would love to visit again.

I realized that Ajanta is the place for me! It's delicious! When I arrived at 10:57 on the weekend, I was surprised to see that they were already open. There were 5 groups of customers ahead of me, and some were already eating. Thanks to that, I was able to start eating about 5 minutes after ordering. It's so delicious! Looking at the photos makes me want to eat it again!

I have been eating soup curry quite a bit, but I hadn't covered the classic shops yet. I had avoided the herbal medicine type because I didn't like it much when I went to Tenjiku before. This time, I finally visited the shop. The interior is spacious with high ceilings. I ordered the chicken and eggplant curry with medium spiciness and cheese topping. The price goes up significantly after ordering chicken. I think this is also due to the increase in raw materials and fuel costs. The taste is herbal, but it also has a rich flavor, making it delicious. Both the ingredients and my body warmed up. Thank you for the meal.

The first stop on the Soup Curry Journey was here. This famous restaurant is said to be the birthplace of soup curry, with a cozy and exotic atmosphere and polite staff who explained everything well. The soup curry had a unique taste, with a medicinal soup base that set it apart from other types of curry. It was a new experience, not a strong or overpowering taste, but one that warmed the body from the inside out. It was delicious... Thank you very much.

Ajanta, located along Circular Street in February 2023. This place offers special spices and collagen, and you can also get a large serving of soup. The service is fast, and the soup is piping hot. Ajanta is my favorite place. I always aim to visit right when they open at 11 am, but even before that time, the shop is already open with customers inside. I quickly ordered the chicken soup with special spices and collagen. It took less than 10 minutes to be served, and the soup was piping hot! The oily soup with the special spice's spiciness was great, and adding extra spice from the condiment on the table enhanced the flavor. The chicken was tender, and the simple vegetables were delicious. The collagen added richness to the soup.

My daughter had a fever, so I took a sudden day off. The antigen test results came back negative for both COVID and the flu, so I felt relieved. I decided to take care of my own health by having medicinal soup curry. I ordered the spicy version and got a rice refill. It's not just about being spicy, but the medicinal effects make you feel warm from the inside. I ended up getting a second helping of rice! It was delicious as always. Thank you for the meal - I will definitely come back!

In Sapporo's Motomachi district, there is a long-established soup curry restaurant called "Ajanta Sohonke." Soup curry has become a famous dish in Sapporo, but going back in time, it was in 1971 that our restaurant introduced the original medicinal curry, which is considered the root of soup curry. Therefore, our restaurant is the origin of soup curry. I ordered the "Chicken and Vegetable Curry" (¥1,925). You cannot choose the spiciness level of the curry at our restaurant, but you can adjust it using the various spices available on the table. As you can see, a surprising amount of vegetables are generously served, highlighting the healthy aspect of the dish. The curry flavor is truly medicinal, with a rich aroma of spices. While it may feel like there are too many vegetables, that is also part of the healthy aspect of this curry. It was a very delicious curry.

Personally, my days off are usually Monday and Tuesday, but this week I have Wednesday and Thursday off. So, I decided to visit a restaurant that I don't usually go to because of my usual days off. The nearest restaurant is located near the Toho Subway Line's Motomachi Station, just take the 2nd exit and head east. This area has a long history, as it was the birthplace of Sapporo Village. You'll walk about 1 kilometer east along Miyanomori, North 24th Street, but the snow on the ground makes it a bit slippery, so it might take a bit longer than usual. The landmark is KFC, but the building itself is quite noticeable. It's been a while, about 30 years ago, when I used to visit this place when it was located in Teine Inaho. Back then, the choice was between eating ramen at a roadside shop with a red and white sign or having a meal here. Looking at Google Maps, it seems like the old building now has a different color and is a ramen shop. I remember when I used to visit the Inaho store, I would sometimes end up sharing a table with strangers. I arrived a little after 11 am, which is the opening time. The building looks like a mountain hut and brings back memories of the past. The parking lot is not gravel, but it's still nostalgic. When I entered the restaurant, the staff asked me to write my name and wait. It was around 11:03 am, and the place had a few tables and counter seats. There was only one person eating at a 4-person table, so it wasn't too crowded. I ordered the "Chicken Curry for 1,100 yen" and opted for the lunchtime special of "extra rice until 3 pm". The dish arrived in about 3 minutes. The soup was dark and rich, with fried green peppers, carrots, and two large bone-in chicken pieces. It was simple yet flavorful. The soup curry here has a unique history, with the addition of ingredients starting in 1971 after a regular customer's request. The soup is made with 30 types of spices and 15 types of Chinese herbs, giving it a warming sensation from within. The chicken and carrots are stewed, not fried, which adds to the depth of flavor. The heat from the soup made me feel warm all over. This kind of experience is unique to the original soup curry restaurant. It was delicious, and I think I should visit regularly for health reasons. Thank you for the meal.
