RaoU
A few years ago, when I was exploring the night shops in Otaru, I came across this restaurant quite early on. It has now become one of my favorite places to visit. Back then, I was thinking of trying out robatayaki and other places, but something about this place caught my attention. The restaurant is located along Hanazono Street and has a welcoming atmosphere. It tends to get busy, especially on weekends, so it's advisable to make a reservation in advance. The interior has 4 box seats, 2 floor tables, 6 counter seats, and 4-5 sunken kotatsu seats for banquets. I usually prefer the box or counter seats, but the table seats are also comfortable. The restaurant mainly serves Suntory beers, with Premium Malt on tap, Guinness in a saucer, and Super Dry in bottles. The Premium Malt here is particularly delicious compared to other places. The menu offers a wide variety of drinks, including a selection of cocktails, including original creations. They also have Otaru's local drink, Otaru Nama Wine Ball, in addition to the traditional blue one, there is also a golden wine ball with lemon (possibly an early Niagara Wine Ball recipe). They also serve the local highball, Crane's Bouquet. Personally, I appreciate that they have Kochi's sake, Sui Kujira. However, if you order whiskey straight, be prepared for a large serving. The food menu is extensive and everything I've tried so far has been delicious. The must-try dishes include the limited quantity Chicken Cream Cheese Wrapped Grilled, Stone Pot Fried Rice, and Monthly Special Seafood Salad. The Cheese Stick and Onion Ring appetizers are also recommended. The Chicken Cream Cheese Wrapped Grilled is a popular dish, so it's best to arrive early if you want to try it. We always order the large Ebisu Snack (really big) as well, which we enjoy as a snack with drinks after finishing our main meal. I usually end the meal with Octopus Wasabi and sake. The Octopus Wasabi portion is quite generous, so be careful if you're dining alone. As we leave, the staff escorts us to the exit and gives us a small snack (usually Umaibo) as a parting gift. We often use this as a snack for a nightcap in our room after staying the night. My partner and I have a "order whatever you like" mentality, so paying the bill can be challenging. Therefore, I recommend making a reservation for 4 or more people, even on the same day, to avoid any payment issues.
