In January 2023, I visited a restaurant called "Yakubo Sakanomichi" with my family for lunch on a weekend. The restaurant is located on a steep hill on the way to Bomyodai from the Sakuramachi rotary. The staff, dressed in white coats, were friendly and the interior of the restaurant featured pottery from Mashiko and Kasama. I ordered the Lu Rou Fan and Chinese porridge, which were both delicious. The Lu Rou Fan had a generous amount of pork and preserved vegetables, with a good balance of flavors. The soup and warm vegetables that came with it were also tasty. The Chinese porridge had a gentle flavor of chicken broth and ginger. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, and I look forward to trying more dishes as the restaurant expands its menu.

I visited the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. It is located in a residential area, but surprisingly has ample parking space. The interior is a calm space, with cute miniature medicine bottles displayed here and there. They also sell Chinese herbal medicine and tea. The atmosphere is very clean and pleasant. I ordered the Chinese congee that I had been wanting to try for a long time. It took some time to prepare, but was served faster than I expected. The congee had a chicken broth base with ginger, sesame seeds, wolfberries, Chinese cabbage, leeks, and chicken. It had a gentle flavor that made me feel warm and cozy as I ate. The warm vegetables included cabbage, radish, carrots, bell peppers, zucchini, shiitake mushrooms, and sweet potatoes. The natural sweetness of the vegetables stood out. The staff were humble and polite, which added to the great experience. The braised pork rice, curry, desserts, and drinks were all appealing as well. It was a lovely cafe that made me want to visit again and again.

Moved to Otaru and had a café time at a new café. Ordered a hand-whisked matcha latte for 650 yen and a pair of small spelt wheat scones for 500 yen (served with homemade rum raisin and cream). The rough texture of the sugar on the cream of the scones was really unpleasant... I wonder why it's there...

I heard that you can eat medicinal cuisine here, so I visited. The simple interior of the restaurant also sells tableware and Chinese medicine. It had a modern cafe vibe and I had a great time in the open atmosphere. I ordered two medicinal congee (with steamed vegetables), firm pudding, and tofu pudding. The congee had a gentle taste with chicken broth, and it was delicious when I added vinegar soy sauce for a flavor change. The desserts, pudding and tofu pudding, were also very delicious. However, the congee was so filling that I was full just from that, haha. It's a wonderful cafe, so I would like to visit again!

Lurouhan set meal 1300 yen
I just started using Tabelog! Please follow me if you like! I will follow back~
Steamed vegetables with a taste that brings out the flavor of the ingredients. You can eat it with your favorite sauce or salt. Chinese soup with a gentle flavor enhanced by sesame oil. The taste is refined, unlike other Chinese restaurants. Lurouhan has a generous portion of meat with some fat, so the pickled mustard greens that come with it are a nice palate cleanser. The egg is perfectly boiled, with a slightly reddish yolk. The steamed vegetables tasted delicious with the coarse salt that came with them. The restaurant has a stylish interior, and a beautiful cherry blossom tree in the courtyard. It must be amazing during cherry blossom season. It would be nice to have tea on the veranda when it gets warmer.

A pharmacy and cafe have opened in Sakuramachi, Otaru. The atmosphere is stylish and calm, unlike any other shop in Otaru. Personally, I used to live nearby until last year, so it's a familiar place for me. The staff were all wearing white coats, reflecting their main job as pharmacists. Inside the shop, they were also selling Mashiko pottery figurines. I arrived just after opening time and managed to park in front of the shop, but the parking lot quickly filled up. I ordered the following items from the menu:
- South Indian Spice Curry (1500 yen)
- Iced Coffee as a set drink (350 yen)
- Trendy Custard Pudding (550 yen)
Payment is currently cash only. Self-service water is available with two options: regular water and detox water with floating fruits. The curry was more authentic than I expected, with three varieties: lentil curry (dal curry), zucchini coconut curry, and chicken curry. There was also yogurt for flavor variation. The curry was mild and gentle in spice, which I enjoyed. The portion was satisfying. For dessert, I had the "trendy custard pudding," which was perfectly firm and not too sweet. Overall, it was a great experience despite the slightly long waiting time, which is understandable since it was only the second day of opening. I look forward to trying their other dishes like Chinese congee and braised pork rice. It was a lovely cafe, and I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!
