Sapporo Station North Exit Area. Open from 11:00 to 22:45. Closed on Sundays. A popular restaurant that has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. Personally, I think this place is the one that made Szechuan-style dry tantanmen with numbing spice popular in Sapporo. When you enter the restaurant, there is a ticket machine, but the staff will confirm the level of spiciness, numbness, and noodle portion for you. The menu has expanded over the years, and even as a regular customer, I found it a bit challenging to choose. The interior is stylish and chic. I ordered the following:
- Dry Tantanmen (1000 yen) with numbing level 2, spiciness level 2, and regular noodle portion. The sesame sauce base was rich, the minced meat flavor was strong, and it was very delicious! The addition of cashew nuts for texture, fragrance, and cilantro for bitterness (topping available) made it tasty even without the spiciness. This time, I chose the highest level of spiciness (level 2) and numbness (level 2) for free, and the chili oil was of good color and quite spicy. The Szechuan peppercorns from Szechuan province were incredibly numbing. The balance of richness, spiciness, numbness, sweetness, bitterness, and umami was at a high level and unique in taste. I opted for a regular noodle portion. The noodles were robust and had a chewy texture that did not lose to the spiciness.
- Cold Dry Tantanmen (1200 yen) with numbing level 2, spiciness level 2, and medium noodle portion. This one was a bit lacking in flavor compared to the regular dry tantanmen. The dish looked visually appealing with a chilled plate, but the taste was not as good as the regular version. The noodles were also specific to this dish but not as impressive. When compared, the evaluation was quite lower.
- Cilantro (200 yen) I prefer to add a little for extra flavor.
- Small Rice (120 yen) The rice was delicious, even though it had been sitting for a while, and it was a nice way to finish the meal.
Overall, there are self-service chili oil and Szechuan peppercorns on the table for those who like to add more heat. The restaurant offers paid toppings and extra spiciness for enthusiasts. It was a delicious meal! Thank you♪♪
