I heard that Takoshabu is a specialty in Wakkanai. I wonder what it is like? I wanted to try it, so I did some research and found that there are three restaurants near Wakkanai Station that offer Takoshabu: "Kurumaya Genji," "Kitano Kokoromochiku-chan," and "Itsumi." All three were fully booked, possibly due to a special offer for Hokkaido residents called "Doumin Wari" in September 2022. "Kurumaya Genji" was even reserved for a private party. "Kitano Kokoromochiku-chan" had a long waiting list, and "Itsumi" turned me away somewhat rudely, saying, "Didn't you make a reservation? Sorry, sorry, sorry." At that moment, I happened to see a nearby restaurant called "BISTROU Keito." Despite having no reviews on Tabelog and a high rating of 4.3 on Google Maps with only 28 reviews, I decided to give it a try. The restaurant turned out to be a great find. They offered a 60-minute all-you-can-drink sparkling wine deal for 1,000 yen, which was excellent. Although I didn't try the "Soya Black Beef," everything else was fantastic.
[Summary of BISTROU Keito]
1. Basic Information
- Restaurant Name: BISTROU Keito
- Cuisine: Casual French
- Location: A few minutes' walk from Wakkanai Station, 1F Keito Building, 2-5-9 Chuou 2-chome, Wakkanai City, Hokkaido 097-0022

- No reviews on Tabelog/Google Maps rating of 4.3 (as of September 10, 2022)
- The stylish interior of the restaurant, predominantly in white, was spacious. There also seemed to be private rooms at the back.
2. Menu
- I initially planned to try the Soya Black Beef steak but was intrigued by a 3,500 yen course menu upon seeing the menu inside the restaurant. I decided to order that instead, as it seemed more enjoyable. They also offered a special sparkling wine called Paul Star for 1,000 yen for 60 minutes of all-you-can-drink.
3. Food and Drinks
- The Paul Star sparkling wine was refreshing and easy to drink. I ended up having about six glasses. The appetizer platter was impressive, with tuna carpaccio that melted in the mouth and perfectly cooked. The cream croquette with lobster was also delicious. Overall, the seasoning was on the stronger side. The portion of the omurice in the course menu was surprisingly large. The Pork Rotti and homemade Zangi from Hokkaido were also tasty. The ice cream dessert was quite large and delicious but maybe a bit too much for a final course.
4. Review and Rating
[BISTROU Keito Impressions]
- The dishes were well-cooked and flavorful, although some were on the heavier side in terms of seasoning and portion size.
- The 1,000 yen all-you-can-drink sparkling wine deal was a great value, even though I ended up drinking too much.
- The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant, and the service was friendly even to first-time customers.
- I was surprised that the total bill came to just 4,500 yen, with no additional charges. It's nice to see prices listed including tax.
