Originating from Sapporo, Hokkaido, the restaurant "Miyoshino" is famous for its "Gyoza Curry," where gyoza is topped on curry rice. The current chairman's father opened a popular diner called "Miyoshino" in the early Taisho era in Tanukikoji, which was long beloved as a confectionery shop. In May 1967, a gyoza specialty store called "Miyoshino 3rd Street Store" was opened near Tanukikoji in Sapporo, which was rare at the time. The official website states that this year was the founding year. In 1977, they started selling the new product "Miyoshino Curry" (originally called Surprise Curry) and the now famous menu item "Gyoza Curry." At that time, advertisements described the combination of curry and gyoza as having a good compatibility like curry and Fukujinzuke. As of December 2022, when I checked the official website, there are a total of 26 stores in Sapporo, Tomakomai, Chitose, Eniwa, and Asahikawa. According to the official website of the operating company "Ten Food Service," "Miyoshino" was franchised at some point, but all stores seem to have been directly managed now. In addition to Miyoshino, they also opened a new concept called "Soba Restaurant Shinshu-an" in 2004. Although not updated on the official website, they also opened "Soba Restaurant Miyoshino Naiebo" in 2020 and took over the business of "Original Takikawa Hanajiri Genghis Khan" in August 2022 to open a store in Sapporo. A franchise of Hakodate's "Jyujiya Coffee Shop" also opened in Sapporo. This time, I visited the "Miyoshino Misono Store" in Toyohira-ku, Sapporo, for the first time to try the "Gyoza Curry." This store opened in October 2011. Each store has different business hours, so I chose a store that is open 24 hours because I planned to go at 5 am on a weekday. Only the Misono Store and Kiyota Store were open 24 hours. On this Thursday morning, I arrived at the store around 5:20 am, and I was the only customer at that time. There are no menu photos, but a list is available on the official website. They offer gyoza set meals, gyoza and curry sets, various toppings for curry rice, and a ramen (available from 11 am to 9 pm) limited to the Misono Store. This time, I ordered the "Gyoza Curry"! [Gyoza Curry] 530 yen (tax included) The curry uses milk, onions, carrots, and chicken, seasoned with fragrant spices, and the feature is that the curry roux contains finely chopped ingredients for a rich flavor. The gyoza is made by wrapping a filling of fresh vegetables, eggs, plenty of meat, and secret spices in an extremely thin skin. The curry is sweet, spicy, mellow, and has a spicy aftertaste. The gyoza has a slightly soft texture, and the flavor of garlic and chives is unique to gyoza, but surprisingly, it does not interfere with the curry, and the umami of the meat is a perfect match. It was delicious, with gyoza topping on curry! However, since the curry was already poured over, the taste of the gyoza itself was not very noticeable, so next time, I would like to order a ramen and gyoza set. Thank you for the meal!
