The day started at Cape Nosappu, the easternmost point of Japan. About 30 minutes from Nemuro, the desolate land at the tip reminiscent of Scottish links. Scotland? I've never been there. Cape Nosappu has various monuments with intricate designs at the observation tower, but you can park your car near the lighthouse. After walking around the lighthouse and taking in the views of the Habomai Islands and Kunashiri, head to the restaurant located about 100 meters away from the lighthouse for breakfast. I arrived right when it opened at 9 am and was seated at the counter facing outside. I ordered the specialty, saury bowl for ¥1300, with a side of crab miso soup for ¥2000. Surprisingly, the crab miso soup had chunks of colorful Hanasaki crab in it. The saury in the bowl, though frozen, looked shiny and appetizing. A pinch of fish roe was placed in the center as an accent. The saury had a slightly firm texture, paired well with the sweet and savory sauce, and hot rice. Then came the Hanasaki crab, skillfully dissected with a crab spoon and kitchen scissors. The soup, infused with crab essence, was delicious. The combination of the saury bowl and generous Hanasaki crab in the soup made for a satisfying breakfast at the easternmost restaurant. Apart from the famous saury bowl, the restaurant offered a variety of dishes, and the simple yet well-maintained interior added to the pleasant atmosphere. A popular stop for bikers and cyclists in Hokkaido, this restaurant provides a taste of local ingredients and cuisine at the edge of the world.

It's the season for Pacific saury. Last time I had frozen, but this time it's fresh Pacific saury! My daughter doesn't eat it, so she waited in the car while I went inside. I ordered a Pacific saury bowl set with miso soup. I used to order the flower crab soup, but it was too much work to eat, so I learned my lesson and stuck with miso soup this time. There was someone who finished their bowl before me, but they were still struggling with the flower crab soup. I finished my bowl and left the restaurant, and they were still fighting with the crab soup. It was just before noon, so I wasn't that hungry, and only ate half of the rice, which turned out to be just right. The fresh Pacific saury with a slightly sweet sauce was delicious. This time, there was a younger person in the kitchen. I asked what happened to the previous chef, and the old chef came out from the back. It seems like the son has taken over. I hope they continue to run this easternmost restaurant without changing the taste.

This restaurant is famous for its saury bowl. Since it's the season when saury is starting to be caught, I decided to go to Cape Nosappu, the easternmost point. I wanted to climb the Aurora Tower, but it was closed. It seems like it might be permanently closed. When I headed towards the lighthouse, I found Suzuki Shokudo. They serve fresh saury! They said the bones were not removed, but it didn't bother me at all, so I dug in eagerly. The roe on top was delicious. It was a bit hot inside because they had all the windows and doors closed, maybe for fly control. I passed on the crab soup and enjoyed my meal.

Riding a bike makes you want to aim for the edge of the map. So, I stopped by this shop near Cape Nosappu! It seems like they serve frozen food, but it was surprisingly delicious. The crab soup had a great crab flavor. I bet the fresh Pacific saury is even more delicious. I want to come back in the fall!

Hokkaido Wanderlust Journey 88 Nemuro City Nosapu Cape Cloudy Strong Wind Nosapu Cape Well, this is also good with atmosphere, I guess. The scenery is so-so, with strong winds blowing. When it comes to Nosapu Cape, Suzuki Shokudo's "Sanma Donburi" is a specialty that you must try. It's quiet during idol time. Without using the complicated meal ticket, I ordered the "Sanma Donburi Set" for ¥2000. The Sanma is still in the closed fishing season, so it's frozen, but the meat is firm and delicious. It goes well with the sauce. The crab leg in the soup was so good that I was completely focused on eating it. It's a bit pricey as it's a tourist spot, but it's a restaurant worth visiting.

I traveled a long way to reach this restaurant. I arrived at 11:30 and there were 2 groups of customers ahead of me. I took a menu card and paid in advance. I ordered a set of saury bowl and flower crab soup for 2,000 yen. There was no mention of it being frozen, so I think the saury was fresh. It took about 10 minutes to be served. The saury bowl had plenty of saury slices that almost covered the rice, and the fish roe was a nice accent. The saury had little smell and melted deliciously in the heat of the rice. There were small bones, but they were not a problem as they were small and didn't get stuck. Instead of pickles, I wish they had served pickled ginger. The flower crab soup had plenty of crab and a subtle taste of the sea. It was a bit of a hassle to extract the crab meat, but there was quite a lot of it. Enjoying the seafood while looking out at the sea was the best.

I visited after about 20 years. The old staff were gone, and only young ones were there. Unfortunately, they didn't have fresh Pacific saury, but since I came all this way, I tried the Pacific saury bowl and tetsubo soup. Once you know the deliciousness of eating fresh, fatty Pacific saury raw, it's a mix of joy and sorrow. I hope the ocean currents change so we can easily catch Pacific saury someday and taste it again.

Sanma donburi set (with teppozu) for 2000 yen. We left the city center of Nemuro in the morning and visited several Chashi ancient tombs on the Nemuro Peninsula. We stopped here for an early lunch. It was my first time trying Sanma donburi, which was quite rare. It's frozen at this time of year, but I didn't notice any strong fishy smell and enjoyed the unique taste. The teppozu soup had Hanasaki crab in it, so I quietly dug out the meat. It took longer than expected, perhaps because we were there early and there weren't many other customers. I imagine the turnover rate isn't very high during peak season. The restaurant was decorated with photos and letters from travelers from all over the country, making me feel like I had reached the easternmost point. I was satisfied to try a rare donburi dish in Hokkaido. Thank you for the meal.

I used this restaurant for lunch during my business trip to eastern Hokkaido. The restaurant is located on the way to Cape Nosappu Lighthouse. It had a small hut-like appearance, which made me unsure if it was open for business, but I was relieved to see a sign saying "open for business." I was able to get in without waiting around 12:30 on a weekday. I ordered the "Pacific saury rice bowl set" (2000 yen). It was a luxurious set meal that came with the famous Pacific saury rice bowl and a soup called "teppozu" (miso soup with Hanasaki crab). Unfortunately, due to poor fishing conditions, the saury was frozen, but I still enjoyed the rare treat of eating a Pacific saury rice bowl.

Here in Nemuro, at Nosapu Cape, there is a restaurant on the way from the lighthouse to the monument. I ordered the "Sanma Don Set B", which comes with a crab soup. It took about 10 minutes for the dish to arrive. First, I tried the crab soup, which was delicious with a white miso base and a nice dashi flavor. The sanma in the sanma don was semi-frozen, making it melt in your mouth when eaten with the rice. It was really tasty and unique, with tobiko on top adding a nice touch. The crab in the soup was served in a generous portion. I enjoyed cracking open the shells and the taste was rich and satisfying. It took some time, but I finished all the crab. Thank you for the meal!

Wow, when I first tried it, I thought I would come every year, but I couldn't make it (^_^;) But even after a long time, it's still amazing \(^o^)/ It's delicious! I like how it's served on warm white rice (^^) The miso soup with Hanasaki crab is also satisfying! I really want to come back soon (^^)

I flew all the way from Sapporo to Nakashibetsu Airport in Hokkaido to visit Nemuro for the first time in my life. Since I was already here, I decided to come to Nosapu Cape, the easternmost point of the mainland, to see the Northern Territories and visit this restaurant, which is known as the easternmost restaurant on the mainland. It truly feels like a diner, and I ordered the saury bowl set for 2000 yen. I don't usually eat raw saury, but this was surprisingly good, and the miso soup with Hanasaki crab was delicious with a rich broth. It was a bit challenging to eat the crab because the shell was hard, but the beautiful red color was mesmerizing.

On a holiday lunch visit, I arrived a bit late and found only one customer in the restaurant! It might be a hidden gem after all. As I came to Nemuro, the easternmost point of the mainland, I had to try the Pacific saury! So, I ordered the raw Pacific saury bowl for 1400 yen! The interior of the restaurant is self-service style. The appearance is not bad! The portion might be a bit small though. The tender Pacific saury and fish roe were good, not enough to rave about, but still delicious! Why not try the raw Pacific saury bowl as a souvenir of visiting the easternmost point of the mainland in Nemuro!? Thank you for the meal (*´ω`*)

I had a different image in mind when I entered the restaurant. This time of year, it's like eating frozen mackerel (lol). Oh well, I once had mackerel sashimi in Kyushu that was so delicious, I was imagining that, but it was a little different here (lol). Still, it's rare and worth trying! It's not often you get to eat this dish raw!

The shop at Nashabu Cape has regular customers talking loudly inside, making it a bit uncomfortable. Well, I probably won't come back again. As a tourist, I'll just sit quietly in the corner. I don't usually eat blue fish sashimi, but I ordered the specialty dish of fresh saury bowl. It was decently delicious, but I couldn't help comparing it to the crab ramen I had at Daichi Shokudo earlier. The price is also on the higher side, so personally, I wouldn't highly recommend it. Thank you for the meal.

- Raw Pacific saury bowl Usually, Pacific saury fishing starts around this time of year, but due to recent poor catches, it has become quite difficult to get a hold of them. On this day, they were serving raw Pacific saury, which was very much appreciated. However, the fat content was a bit lacking, and I couldn't help but feel that it would have been even more delicious during its peak season. It can't be helped when dealing with nature. Still, I was grateful to have the opportunity to try the raw Pacific saury bowl. - Hanasaki crab soup This dish was incredibly delicious. The sweetness of the Hanasaki crab broth was evident, and the umami flavor was well concentrated. Since it was the perfect season, this dish was undeniably exquisite. Of course, it was packed full of meat, and the thick flesh also added to the seasonal flavor. Overall, I found the Hanasaki crab soup to be more satisfying than the raw Pacific saury bowl. Hanasaki crab is also a taste of autumn in Hokkaido. It's worth coming to Nosappu Misaki to enjoy this. Thank you for the meal! (^^)!

Suzuki Shokudo is a local restaurant located near Cape Nosappu, the easternmost point of Japan. They offer a dish called "Sanma Don" for 1400 yen, made with frozen Pacific saury since it's not in season. The saury is served on top of rice, giving a unique texture that is both crunchy and soft. Despite being cold, you can still taste the strong flavor of the saury, making it delicious. The dish also includes crunchy fish roe and a generous amount of sweet soy sauce, which complements the saury well. I enjoyed it so much that I finished every last bite.

On this day, I departed from Kushiro early in the morning and headed to Cape Noshappu♪ In my mind, Cape Noshappu was the "Cape of Humanity" from the comedy duo "Tunnels" song, I think. I remember it being mentioned in the lyrics. So, I always wanted to visit Cape Noshappu someday (laughs). After sightseeing, I went to "Suzuki Shokudo" near the Noshappu Cape lighthouse♪ I parked my car next to the shop and lined up in front of the shop around 8:50 am. Soon, others who were waiting for the shop to open started to gather as well. Before the shop opened, there were about 10 people in line. There was a sign in front of the shop saying that on that day, the "fresh saury was not available" so they were using frozen saury instead. Oh well... Then, the shop opened at 9:00 am. First, I ordered and paid at the register in the back of the shop. I bought the shop owner's recommended saury bowl set (with teppo soup) and sat at the designated counter seat. In about 7-8 minutes, the "saury bowl" arrived! This is it! When I came to Cape Noshappu, I wanted to try this famous saury bowl as well♪ Now, time to eat! The saury in the saury bowl was cut into easy-to-eat pieces and there was plenty of it! It was seasoned and surprisingly refreshing. The rice was nice and warm. It said they didn't remove the small bones, but it didn't bother me much. The teppo soup had a lot of crab in it (laughs). However, it was a bit troublesome to eat with scissors (laughs). My hands got dirty (laughs). But, the broth was delicious♪ Thank you for the meal!

Known as the best saury landing base in Japan, Nemuro is a place where a famous restaurant serves saury sashimi on saury rice bowls. Located at the edge of the world in Cape Nosappu, where you can overlook the Northern Territories, the restaurant also has a Riders House, making it a sacred place for riders and backpackers. The walls are filled with photos and graffiti from many visitors. The saury bowl is made with frozen saury when it's not in season. Even though frozen, it still has a rich flavor and melts in your mouth, but it looks even more delicious during the fresh saury season. It switches to fresh saury around late August. The prices are a bit high due to the location being a tourist spot. However, if you ever visit Cape Nosappu again, this is a place you'll want to stop by. Many people also order the Teppou-jiru soup, which is flavored with Hanasaki crab broth.

Located in Nemuro, where you can see the Northern Territories, Suzuki Shokudo is a restaurant known for its Sanma-don, a dish made with saury commonly caught in Nemuro. The restaurant is situated at Cape Nosappu, the easternmost point of Japan's main island. The Sanma-don is served with fresh saury when in season, and with frozen saury at other times. On this particular day, I tried the dish with frozen saury, which was delicious without any fishy taste and had a rich flavor. I look forward to trying it with fresh saury next time. Many tourists on motorcycle tours visit this restaurant, exploring various parts of Hokkaido and enjoying Sanma-don along the way. It's a great way to travel and experience new places.

I visited Noshappu Cape in Nemuro first thing in the morning. Although there was a bit of fog, the weather was great and the view was amazing. The clear skies in Eastern Hokkaido have a foreign feel to them. I had a delicious crab soup with Hanasaki crab, which was so flavorful and satisfying on the slightly chilly day. The cats near the restaurant were also adorable. Thank you for the meal.
