In Tomakomai, there is a long-established bento shop called "Jinbei", and the lunch division of the bento shop BENTOSS in various locations in Sapporo, as well as each store in Hakodate, is also called "Jinbei". The place was crowded when I went in. There were samples lined up and a wide variety of menu options. I didn't do any research beforehand, but I couldn't help being drawn in by the impulse. They not only had regular bento boxes but also sushi, which feels like cheating. In the end, I bought the "Karaage and Ginger Pork Bento (650 yen)" and the "Futomaki (580 yen)". I was going to eat them at my company, so I had them made to go. The Futomaki had perfectly seasoned sushi rice, sweet sakura denbu, tamagoyaki, cucumber, and kanpyo - a classic combination. The roll was easy to eat and delicious. The Karaage and Ginger Pork Bento had two slices of pork belly and two pieces of karaage. The ginger pork had a sweet and rich flavor, probably made with pre-made sauce. You couldn't really taste the ginger, but the rice was satisfying, and the karaage had a typical savory taste you'd expect from a side dish. It cost 650 yen. It seems different from the bento shop "Jinbei" in Tomakomai or the bento shop "Jinbei" in Minamisato 18-chome, but they may be related. They offer both takeout at the store and delivery through Demae-can. The menu is extensive, with nori bento starting at 340 yen and the volume zone around 500 yen, making it affordable. I was curious about the sushi from a bento shop. That night, I ordered the Tekkamaki to nibble on with my somen noodles. Surprisingly, it was delicious. Despite my low expectations, the fluffy rolls were exquisite, with just the right amount of vinegar in the rice and large pieces of tuna packed to the edges. Three rolls for 690 yen may seem expensive for a bento shop, but it felt like a good value when I tasted it. I might try their sushi next time. Thank you for the meal.

There is a bento shop along Route 36. I always thought it was a sushi specialty bento shop, but my wife and I wanted to try something different, so we decided to go there. The menu is extensive and it was hard to decide. My wife chose the mixed fry bento, so I also ordered the mixed fry. The mixed fry included shrimp fry, white fish fry, squid fry, croquette, fried green pepper, and tamagoyaki tempura. The fry was crispy and delicious. The tamagoyaki tempura and fried green pepper were new to me and they were tasty. They also have sushi and other menu items that I would like to try next time.

I sometimes use it for lunch. All the side dishes are delicious, but the salmon is especially tasty. The cabbage is cut quite thick. I ordered the special bento of the day and a tekka maki. It took about 15 minutes from ordering to completion. When I got home, I enjoyed the tekka maki as a snack with my evening drink. On a certain weekday, when I started to worry about the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Hokkaido, I decided to visit a takeout bento shop for lunch. The shop was of average size for a bento shop, with a lot of phone calls and delivery people coming in and out. The background music was playing on the AM radio. From the menu, I noticed that they also had a small sushi section, so I ordered the "Hamburger Egg Curry (660 yen)" and the "Futomaki (550 yen)." When I got home and took a bite... Wow, the curry sauce was thick and homey, with a subtle spiciness reminiscent of Nissin Cup Noodles curry flavor. I could see chunks of potatoes and onions in it. The hamburger, probably pre-cooked and reheated, had a decent sear on the outside and was tender inside, served with a soft-boiled egg. Next, the futomaki... Oh, it seemed freshly made, soft and delicious. The sweet and sour vinegar rice was light and flavorful, with a hint of seaweed, and inside there were tamagoyaki, cucumber, kanpyo, sakura denbu, and pickled ginger.
