A regular spot for Satomi Ishihara 2020-10-13 2. What is Soup Curry GARAKU? "Soup Curry GARAKU" opened as "SOUP CURRY & BAR GARAKU" in 2007 in Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido. It was later renamed to "Soup Curry GARAKU Sapporo Main Store." When I traveled to Sapporo last year, I found GARAKU at the top of the popular soup curry shops in Sapporo on "Fortravel," so I was determined to visit. In Chikubetsu on the 2nd day, there was a "Petit GARAKU" in front of the station, but it was full. I had to give up because I wouldn't make it in time for the train. In the end, I couldn't visit in Sapporo due to lack of time, but recently when I was researching Tokyo's soup curry, I found that there are two GARAKU stores in Tokyo. Seriously? I have to go. So this time, I visited the Hachioji store. GARAKU's main store is in Susukino, Sapporo. There is another store in Sapporo, as well as Chitose and Tomamu Forest in Hokkaido, Hachioji and Nakano in Tokyo, and a store in Bangkok, Thailand. Also, GARAKU Tokyo Hachioji store has a rating of 3.58 on Tabelog and 4.3 on Google Maps (as of June 5, 2023). 3. Access, Exterior, Business Hours of GARAKU Tokyo Hachioji Store Address: 12-11 Yokoyamacho, Hachioji, Tokyo 192-0081 8 minutes walk from Hachioji Kitaguchi Station. It is located along Hachioji Euroad. The exterior of GARAKU Tokyo Hachioji store is like a stylish cafe. The store is only on the 1st floor, with a counter seat, 2-seat table, and 4-seat table, totaling 18 seats. Business Hours: Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 11:30-20:30 (L.O. 20:00) Tuesday: 11:30-15:30 (L.O. 15:00) Closed on Wednesdays 4. Menu, Atmosphere Inside GARAKU Tokyo Hachioji Store The menu at GARAKU Tokyo Hachioji store offers a variety of options at reasonable prices. I ordered the "Pork Shabu-Shabu and 7 Types of Mushroom Forest" as I love mushrooms. You can choose the spiciness level up to 5 (very spicy) for free. Rice comes in small (100g), medium (200g), and large (300g for +110 yen) sizes. I chose very spicy and medium. You can also choose different types of soups such as Original, Ocean's Blessing (+130 yen), and Mountain's Blessing (+110 yen). They also offer Belgian white beer, Hoegaarden White, which I will try next time. The top 3 toppings were impressive, especially the fried broccoli. When I visited on a Sunday at 6:40 pm, the place was almost full. The kitchen had one male staff and the hall had one female staff. The male staff seemed experienced and had a very pleasant demeanor. The background music varied from The Beatles to jazz trumpet, creating a nice atmosphere. I waited for about 20 minutes before the meal arrived, but the ambiance was so good that it didn't bother me. 5. Pork Shabu-Shabu and 7 Types of Mushroom Forest at GARAKU Tokyo Hachioji Store

I decided to go to GARAKU in the morning, so I went to get a ticket at 11:10 and I was the 22nd in line. I killed time at Don Quijote and Daiso in front of me, and at 11:45 I was called in. I looked at the menu handed to me by the staff and decided to order the recommended pork shabu-shabu with 7 kinds of mushroom curry and Yuzu lassi. The lassi arrived first, followed by the curry. The curry looked very filling. I ordered it to be spicy level 4, but it wasn't very spicy. The flavor was excellent. I thought maybe it was because of the cheese on top of the rice. The amount of mushrooms was overwhelming. It was delicious, but I misjudged the portion size. Next time, I will consider the spiciness and portion size when ordering.

I visited a restaurant located underground before 6 pm on a weekday. There was a line of people at the entrance staircase, so I asked if I should line up, and was told to use the ticket machine and wait. The system sends a notification through LINE when it's almost your turn, so it's okay to leave the restaurant. After waiting for about an hour, I received a LINE message to come back inside, and then waited for about 20 minutes before being seated. The country-style interior was lively, and the staff was very energetic. I ordered the pork shabu-shabu and vegetable curry from the regular menu. I ordered 100g of rice without spice, and also added grilled cheese on top. The amount of rice provided seemed a bit small. The non-spicy soup curry was mild to the point where it seemed like the flavor might have been reduced. Even if you don't like spicy food, having some level of spiciness might be better. The pork, mushrooms, and vegetables had plenty of filling, and the cheese topping on the rice was quite light. It is recommended to squeeze lemon over the curry for a refreshing taste. However, since the curry wasn't spicy, the benefits of the cheese and lemon were not very noticeable. There were so many ingredients in the curry that it was satisfying to eat without getting bored. I really wanted to try other curries as well. If you're unsure about the toppings, there are plenty of options for individual toppings to customize your meal. It's a must to wait in line, but if you go early or dine alone, the wait time isn't too bad. It's clear that this is a popular restaurant. I would love to eat here again. Thank you for the meal.

Underground restaurant. Open from 5 pm with a 29-group wait 10 minutes before opening. Doesn't seem like the first group will be called first. In the end, the first number was called at 1718. What's up with that? Many people from Korea and other countries. By the time it opened, there was a line on the stairs. At 5:24 pm, there were 86 people waiting in line from 36 groups. I underestimated the wait time a bit. There are only 4 chairs, so you either stand and wait or wander around. I was called in for the second round of seating at 6 pm. I had ordered earlier, so I sat down and the food came out in about 10 minutes. Recommended broccoli and rice with cheese topping for around 1650 yen. The soup curry has a pretty strong flavor that goes well with the rice. Spicy. The rice was just okay. It was tasty without regretting the wait, but it didn't use unusual ingredients or have a unique taste. Aren't other soup curry restaurants like this too, with no line? I haven't had soup curry elsewhere, so I can't compare. But with three large chunks of meat and good taste, I understand why it's popular. My stomach was quite full. About 10 groups left when I did.

The popular soup curry restaurants for Sunday lunch all have long lines of 40-50 groups waiting. Even the popular GARAKU has a wait of 48 groups, but you can enjoy Senbero while waiting with their LINE call system, making the 2-hour wait satisfying. The spicy level 3 curry has a delicious spiciness from the aromatic spices. The turmeric rice is also flavorful. The curry matches well with 16 types of ingredients such as carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, shimeji mushrooms, broccoli, okra, eggplant, mizuna, giant corn, wood ear mushrooms, yam, Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, lotus root, paprika, and quail eggs! Thank you for the meal.

I went to the popular soup curry restaurant, Garaku. I arrived around 5:30 pm, but there was already a line. I got a waiting number from the ticket machine downstairs. I ended up waiting for about an hour to be seated. If you register on LINE, you will receive a notification when your turn is approaching, so I took a walk around the area. I relaxed at a juice bar in the underground mall. Around 6:30 pm, they called my number, and it took about 40 minutes to be seated. Just a heads up, they stopped accepting new customers around 6:30 pm, so arriving late may not be a good idea. I ordered vegetable curry with bacon topping and chicken and vegetable curry. I asked for medium spiciness, and it had a nice balance between the slight heat and the flavor of the vegetables. My partner got a slightly spicy one, while mine was almost not spicy at all, which may be suitable for those who don't like spicy food. The taste and the seating system were great, but the cleanliness of the spice containers and the floor was a bit lacking. Personally, I might prefer to try other restaurants.

I ordered the Pork Frank and Bacon with Melted Cheese on top. Each ingredient was well infused with curry flavor, making it juicy and delicious. The crispy surface of the Frank and Bacon added a nice touch with its salty taste. Mixing the cheese and vegetables allowed for flavor variation, making it easy to finish without getting tired of it.

I had the soft chicken leg and vegetable curry at GARAKU, a soup curry restaurant in Sapporo. The chicken leg was tender and infused with a strong flavor of spices and herbs, making it juicy in the mouth. The variety of vegetables paired perfectly with the soup. The soup curry had a rich and spicy taste that whetted my appetite. I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again.

Daikaraku is extremely crowded, so make sure to go early and get your ticket or you won't be able to eat. There were already 50 groups waiting right after they opened... But it's delicious. I've loved it since the days when it was a small second floor. I always get the broccoli topping ⭐️ Thank you for the meal.

For those considering a trip to Hokkaido in the future, a little preview: I arrived in Sapporo at 7:30 pm on the first day of my trip and was thinking of having soup curry for dinner, but I found out that they wouldn't let anyone in without a numbered ticket... I underestimated the popularity of the restaurant. The next day, I lined up 30 minutes before the 11:30 am opening time and still ended up being around 20th in line. Popular restaurants are no joke. But it was worth the wait as I was able to enjoy a delicious lunch filled with happiness! I highly recommend trying it with the seared cheese rice.

I waited a long time, but the reservation management is solid and when your turn is close, you can just go to the restaurant. The waiting time is worth it for the delicious soup curry on Tanuki Koji. It's definitely worth lining up for.

GARAKU, a famous restaurant, was a must-visit during my trip to Hokkaido. I wanted to try their soup curry, while my friend wanted to enjoy a Sapporo Classic beer. We were lucky to get tickets as the restaurant operates on a ticket system an hour before opening. We ordered the popular braised pork curry with extra fried broccoli on top, along with the Sapporo Classic beer. You can choose the spiciness level of the curry and the amount of rice. The curry arrived within 5 minutes of ordering, surprising us with its speed. It was my first time trying soup curry at a restaurant, and it lived up to its popularity with its delicious taste. However, the highlight for me was the fried broccoli, which enhanced the flavor of the curry and was incredibly tasty. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I received a numbered ticket at 6:30 PM and entered the restaurant after about 40 minutes. It was amazing to eat retort curry in its home country, but considering the price, it was just okay. I wish there were a little more, like dessert or lassi included in the set. Despite that, there was always a line, and by the time I left after 8 PM, they had run out of soup.

I arrived at 10:50 and was the first in line. At 11:00, they started handing out tickets, and by then there were already close to 30 groups waiting in line. I entered the shop at 11:30, and the service was incredibly fast (maybe because I was the first in line). I ordered the popular No. 1 dish, the braised pork belly soup curry. The soup was spicy and what surprised me the most was how well the Japanese-style broth was incorporated, making it very delicious. The ingredients were cooked until tender, which was exactly to my liking.

I often saw long lines at this restaurant, so based on the reviews, I aimed to arrive early and reached there at 10:50. I was the first in line, but soon after, more people started arriving. By the time ticket distribution started at 11:00, there were already around 20 groups waiting, and by the time they opened at 11:30, there were over 50 groups. I was surprised by the efficient ticket system that allowed us to wait in line virtually through LINE. When I entered at 11:30, my order came out in just 2-3 minutes. I decided to try the limited quantity and most popular dish, the tender roasted pork, with cheese topping on the rice. The curry bowl was shallower than other soup curry places, and it had an interesting addition of wood ear mushrooms in the toppings. The soup had a rich broth flavor, similar to ramen, and all the ingredients were delicious, especially the potatoes. The cheese topping on the rice was a great choice, as the crispy parts paired well with the spicy curry. I opted for a small rice portion due to calorie concerns, but I regretted it as it was so delicious. This restaurant is often featured in tourist magazines, so it was very crowded with tourists. Thank you for the meal! (*^^*)

First time at GARAKU!!! I arrived around 7pm on Friday night. There were 13 groups waiting ahead of me. I waited for about 1 hour before being seated. You can check the waiting groups online, so it's recommended to just get your ticket and stroll around Tanukikoji instead of waiting in front of the restaurant. Just as I was being seated, they took down the reservation machine because the soup had run out for the number of people waiting. The 'braised pork' and 'pork shabu-shabu with mushrooms' curries were sold out. I felt sorry for the groups waiting after me. Since it was my first visit, I thought about going for the chicken curry, and I chose the Chicken Curry for 1250 yen. By the way, the spiciness level was 4 out of 10! The curry arrived in about 10 minutes, but there was a little mishap where the server brought the wrong rice. It took a while to bring the correct one, so I started with the soup first. The soup had a rich flavor, and each vegetable added its own deliciousness, making it a satisfying dish. Especially, the lotus root, carrot, and wood ear mushrooms were delicious!! There was a lot of wood ear mushrooms, and I was surprised at how well their texture went with the curry. The rice that came with it was also like mixed grain rice, which was a nice touch! Next time, I want to try the soup curry with pork shabu-shabu and mushrooms! Thank you for the meal (*´ー`*)

Vegetables are the best! Hokkaido's soup curry is all about the delicious vegetables! I ordered the "Blessings of the Earth with 15 Types of Vegetables" without hesitation. I added the "Tender Chicken Leg" as a topping. It would have been nice if they had glass noodles as a topping like another soup curry place, but unfortunately they didn't. However, the soup curry was really delicious. Of course, the vegetables too. There are really a variety of vegetables in it, so I recommend it to those who want to eat vegetables. Especially for travelers from outside Hokkaido. Ramen and sushi are delicious even in the city, but fresh vegetable soup curry is something you can only eat in Hokkaido, so please try it! It's a very popular and famous shop, so there's a long line. But once you receive your assigned number, you can go outside. When your turn is approaching, you'll receive a notification on LINE. I received the notification after about 40 minutes while strolling around Tanuki Koji shopping street. Even with a long line, it's stress-free, so I recommend this restaurant. Thank you for the meal! I felt like having soup curry after a long time, so I headed to the Yellow restaurant, but it was closed for the day. I then visited GARAKU instead. I waited for about 30 minutes before being able to enter. It seemed to be a popular place as more and more people kept coming in. I ordered the pork shabu-shabu curry and mango lassi, which arrived after a few minutes. The curry here had a Japanese-style broth, which surprisingly paired well with the spices and was very delicious. The pork and vegetables were also tasty.

Received a ticket at 1:00 PM and already more than 10 people were waiting. Finally entered the store after 2:00 PM. It's a popular place with even foreigners. I checked the menu in advance and ordered. I really wanted to try the pork shabu-shabu with kimchi that I saw in a magazine, so I added a chicken leg as a topping. I also added grilled cheese to the rice. I chose a mild level of spiciness, 2. The vegetables were delicious one by one. The pork shabu-shabu and chicken were tasty when mixed with the soup. The lemon on the rice effectively balanced the spiciness. It was a hassle to wait in line, but it was definitely worth it because it was so delicious.

I lined up around 11:00 on Sunday, May 5, 2023, received a numbered ticket, and entered the store around 12:00. The soft chicken leg with a slightly spicy vegetable spice aroma spread, and the chicken was tender and delicious. The broccoli, which was deep-fried, was especially tasty. For those accustomed to spicy food, the slightly spicy flavor may feel a bit lacking, so I recommend the medium spiciness.

Soup Curry with Soft Chicken Leg and Vegetables, Level 5 Spiciness, Grilled Cheese, Fried Broccoli, Pumpkin, Extra Rice and Curry Sauce. I consider myself to have a strong tolerance for spicy food, but Level 5 was still quite hot. The spiciness from the spices floating on the surface gradually decreased towards the end, but at the start, it was so hot that it made me choke due to the heat.
