One of my favorite soba restaurants is always crowded or closed on days off, so I had to turn back a few times. This shop grows and grinds their own soba, so there are longer breaks during sowing and harvesting seasons. They are closed from late May to early June and late August to early September. They also have other days off for farming activities. Today, I made sure they were open by going for a reconnaissance visit beforehand, and also had a backup soba restaurant in mind for a visit. Finally, I was able to enter! I am so happy. I had been recovering from COVID for about a week, so going out and eating out was a rare treat for me. I had hardly left my room, so the wide view and bright sunlight felt dazzling (laughs). I had only been eating fruits and porridge, but maybe I can eat soba. I could eat soba from the convenience store, after all. This restaurant is located in the Mikage area of Tokachi Shimizu Town and also manages the Yamabe Garden, so you can enjoy very fresh Yamabe soba here. However, since I'm not feeling well, I decided to skip the fried food for now. I ordered the Nira Soba for 950 yen. The colorful boiled leeks were beautifully arranged on the soba when served. Nira Soba, which is not often seen in other soba restaurants, is a specialty of Tochigi Prefecture. The owner used to belong to a prestigious ice hockey team in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, so maybe that's why it's on the menu. As indicated in the menu note that the leeks from May to October are firm, the thick and robust leeks have quite a firm texture. But it's full of nutrients, so I'm happy! It gives me an energizing feeling. The soba has sharp edges and a crisp visual appearance. The black soba, worthy of the name "Juwari Soba," is surprisingly delicate and thin. Moreover, when you slurp it, it's smooth and chewy, with a very refreshing texture. There's no sense of roughness at all. Delicious! The soba making skills of the owner, trained in ice hockey, were truly impressive. I wanted to eat more, but it was just the right amount for someone recovering from illness. The broth is rich and clear, with a perfect balance. I enjoy it by diluting it with soba water. I'm glad I was able to visit before the soba harvesting break. I would like to revisit after they switch to new soba, but I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious soba. My sense of smell hasn't fully returned yet, but I can confirm that my health has almost recovered. My friend ordered the Yamabe Tempura Soba, which came with vegetable tempura and was apparently very delicious (*≧∀≦*)
