After-work detour series. I have been using this wine shop for buying wine for a while now. The Maruyama store has opened a barrel bar where you can drink wine inside the store since February this year, but it was temporarily closed due to the influence of the coronavirus. It reopened this month, so I decided to stop by. You can enjoy high-priced wines by the bottle at a reasonable price by the glass, and you can choose from three different amounts of wine, making it easy to enjoy while shopping. It's nice because if you buy without tasting, you might end up losing out if it's not to your liking. In the summer, I feel like drinking a crisp, chilled white or rosé. From the menu, this time I chose a Chablis Grand Cru Valmur. It's a dry wine with a solid body, and when you taste it, it has a rich aroma with a lingering grape aftertaste, making it delicious. It would go well with light meat dishes like pate, not just fish. I also received a card so I won't forget the wine I drank. On this day, I found a sparkling wine in a can that looked convenient to take camping, so I bought it. With this size, you can finish drinking it and chill it in a cooler box, making it perfect for a BBQ. There were also red, white, and rosé wines besides sparkling. The wine list is changed at least once a month to introduce new wines when the current ones run out. The staff is also friendly, and if you tell them what you're looking for or your budget, they will recommend a few options for you. On a certain holiday, while taking a stroll in the Maruyama area and before heading home, I happened to see a shop next door where they were displaying and selling various wines that looked delicious. Even though I don't drink alcohol, I decided to step in hoping to find some non-alcoholic options. This wine shop is located above Maruyama Station. The shop is deep inside in an L-shaped layout, with wines of various kinds displayed from top to bottom. For someone like me who can't drink alcohol, it's like pearls before swine. Among the menu items that day, I found a few types of juice that caught my eye, so I decided to try some. I tried the "Merlot Red Grape Juice (800 yen)" which had a wine-like color, and when I took a sip, it really tasted like wine without the alcohol. It had a high level of sweetness and a unique grape flavor that made it feel special. I also tried the "Summer Pear Nectar (800 yen)" which had a rich and spicy sweetness with a hint of acidity, quite different from the image of Japanese peaches. It was really delicious. When you think about it rationally, paying 800 yen for juice seems extravagant, but sipping on these unique grape juice and peach juice made me feel like a celebrity. Thank you for the meal.

This is Enoteca's Maruyama store, which has several locations in Sapporo. It is conveniently located next to subway exit 5, making it easily accessible by public transportation. For those arriving by car, there is a parking lot in the building with one hour of free parking. I looked up the operating company a bit on their website and found out that they are a large company with consolidated sales of 22 billion yen nationwide, which was surprising. When I want a decent wine for home, I sometimes go to the nearby Sekoma, but when I want something a bit better, I usually go to Enoteca or Ito. This time, I tried the Argentine "Paso a Paso" for 1,500 yen (tax included), a Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a heavy red wine. It's an original wine from Enoteca, and while I'm not very knowledgeable about wines, I found it to have a heavy flavor with low acidity, which I quite liked. The name "Cases" in the store's name refers to case sales, and they also offer discounted sales where you can choose 10 bottles of wine priced around 1,500 yen each for 10,000 yen (up to 2 bottles of the same variety, or 12 bottles for 12,000 yen with free shipping).
