Today, I had work in the Yamabana area of Sapporo. After a long time, I visited "Menya 169," which was selected for the "Michelin Guide Hokkaido 2017 Bib Gourmand" for lunch. Bib Gourmand is a rating similar to Michelin stars, given to restaurants that provide high-quality meals made with care at affordable prices (below 3,500 yen). "Menya 169" opened in 2015 and was selected as one of the nine Bib Gourmand ramen restaurants in Sapporo in just two years. Impressive. The restaurant is located at Minami 16-jo Nishi 9-chome, Chuo-ku, Sapporo. The name "169" comes from this address. Easy to find, right? I arrived at the restaurant at exactly 2:00 pm. It had been four years since my last visit. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. They offer Chinese soba (chicken + double soup of boiled sardines), aromatic soy sauce soba (triple soup of chicken, boiled sardines, and clams), boiled sardine soba (100% boiled sardines), and the basic four types of Sapporo miso ramen. Although originally a light taste shop, the miso ramen is an irregular choice. Today, I ordered the classic "Chinese soba (soy sauce)" for 850 yen. Watching the cooking style of Chef Ito, who comes from a Japanese cuisine background, I waited for about 5 minutes before my bowl arrived. The amber-colored soy sauce soup with chashu, nori, green onions, seasoned egg, and bamboo shoots. The bowl is white with a red cloud dragon pattern, making the dish stand out. Let's dig in! First, the soup. Oh, it's delicious! The soup is delicious. The double soup of chicken and boiled sardines is light and delicate, without any artificial seasonings. It has a well-balanced flavor of chicken and boiled sardines, which is soothing to the stomach. The noodles are thin and firm, with a good bounce, perfect for the clear soup. The noodles are made by Sachi-chan's Sagamiya noodles. The chashu is cooked at a low temperature, tender and flavorful. The bamboo shoots are crunchy and tasty. The seasoned egg is perfectly done, with a hint of yuzu fragrance. I slurped up the noodles and soup in no time. Once again, I finished every last drop of soup. What a high-quality ramen that shines with the skills of Japanese cuisine. The location of the restaurant used to be where the popular "Fukurai-ken" was located. "Fukurai-ken" was known for its rich and garlicky "The Sapporo Ramen," while "Menya 169" offers a completely different light and delicate style. It's interesting to see the wide variety of ramen available. Next time, I want to try the Sapporo miso ramen inspired by Sapporo ramen. A delicious and light ramen with a taste of Japanese craftsmanship. It was a great meal. Thank you!
