I wanted to eat okonomiyaki, so I went to Itsuboku for the first time. It is one of the few okonomiyaki restaurants in Otaru. It is located on the slope in front of Ramen Shodai. Currently, they are only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Two older ladies are working hard there. The seating is all tatami mats with raised seating areas. There were six tables. I went in the evening and was the only customer. The retro Showa-era atmosphere is calming. From the menu, I ordered Mix-ten (880 yen), Ebi Yakisoba (830 yen), and Pepsi Cola (220 yen) written on a piece of paper. This restaurant is Kanto-style, so they call okonomiyaki "ten" instead of "tamago." Mix-ten includes pork, squid, octopus, shrimp, and bacon. It seems like at Itsuboku, you cook it yourself. There were instructions on how to cook it on the table, so I followed them. Usually, it falls apart when I flip it, but this time it worked out well! It was fluffy and had a light texture. Quite delicious! I used a slightly spicy sauce, but it was light. You also cook the yakisoba yourself. I did a good job with that too! Okonomiyaki restaurant's yakisoba is always tasty, right? The aroma of the sauce is great! It was delicious. It was a pretty tasty okonomiyaki restaurant. I'll come back again. Thank you for the meal!

It's been about 15 years since my last visit. I hardly remember anything from back then. We wanted to eat okonomiyaki after a long time, so we decided to try out this restaurant called Genpei. It's located on a hill, so it seems to have a nice view. The restaurant is situated on a slope on the way to Minami-Otaru Station after turning left from the Rinko Line. There are only sunken kotatsu seating areas and six tables in the restaurant. It's a relaxing space where you can unwind. The view outside is... you can see the sea, and you can see ferries docked at the Katsunai Pier. We ordered Buta-Ten and Omusoba. Buta-Ten seems to be the Kanto-style name for it. I thought okonomiyaki was the same as Butatama. I'm not sure if it's Kanto or Kansai style, but there are two types of sauce, okonomiyaki sauce and sesame sauce. It was delicious. My friend enjoyed it, although there wasn't much fluffiness, which is the responsibility of the cook (laughs). I had Omusoba. I was expecting them to make it for me, but they brought the ingredients as they were. At Fuzuki in Sapporo, they would make it for you on the hot plate at your table. I tried making the Omusoba myself. The process was as shown in the picture, and I managed to make it somehow. It would have been even more delicious if the staff had made it for me... Let's just accept it as my own responsibility. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is laid-back. The wall is lined with shelves full of manga. I'm sure the wood stove will be in use during the winter. It would be nice to enjoy the time together. Thank you for the meal.
