Here is my recent ramen experience at Ramen Tenjiro. I tried reducing the amount of vegetables, getting extra noodles, adding extra green onions and quail eggs, but it seems that it's better to go light on the noodles and vegetables. Also, it's tough having to skip garlic during weekday lunch hours due to meeting people. Personally, I like to mix the provided ramen soup vigorously and eat it "karame" style. I also try to go easy on the oil as it tends to upset my stomach.

This is the third location of Tenjirou in Kushiro, Hokkaido. When they first opened, there were long lines of customers, but recently it seems to be less crowded. I tried Jiro-style ramen for the first time since it looked empty. I ordered the small shoyu ramen with an extra boiled egg and free topping of vegetables. I thought there would be a huge pile of bean sprouts, but it was just a normal amount. The soup was oily with little depth of flavor, giving off a cheap taste. The noodles were very thick and flat, making it difficult to eat. The chashu was average. It's a hearty and junky ramen lacking finesse. Some customers may love this style, but based on the number of customers, I have doubts about their ability to continue operating successfully. Perhaps that's why they have a small counter-only store in Kushiro. Similarly, Yokohama-style ramen restaurant "Ikkazuka" seems to be struggling as well. In my personal opinion, I don't think they will last long.

The only place in Kushiro where you can eat Jiro-style ramen. Due to various reasons, I went there on an empty stomach and ordered the light version. One downside is that you can't choose extra vegetables for free with the light version. The taste is inspired by Jiro-style ramen and quite close to the original, but for some reason, it lacks the addictive quality that Jiro ramen usually has. Also, the chashu (roast pork) is a big difference compared to the original. Jiro's chashu is a delicacy, so this is a major point of inferiority here.

Visit date: June 26, 2022
For lunch on this day, I visited Tenjiro with a companion. We arrived almost right after the opening, but there were already 7 customers ahead of us. Unfortunately, there was one seat short, so we had to wait for about 30 minutes before finally being seated.
We ordered:
- Light soy sauce ramen for 780 yen
- Small miso ramen for 880 yen
The light soy sauce ramen had garlic and charred chashu. The taste was quite salty, even though I understand the notice about the strong flavor. The broth and noodles were also on the salty side. The soup would probably still taste good without garlic, but having it adds a punch and enhances the flavor, I believe. The charred chashu didn't have a strong charred flavor despite being described as such. It was very salty, so I understand the desire to add extra vegetables. The portion size of the light ramen was just right.
The small miso ramen, despite the name, was different from Sapporo-style miso ramen. The noodles had a thick, handmade texture. It had a striking appearance, but the taste was surprisingly mature.
While waiting for a seat, a solo customer arrived after us, so I offered to let them go first, but the staff insisted on seating customers in the order they arrived. It could be seen as a good or inflexible policy, depending on how you look at it. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

The small ramen with extra toppings was incredibly delicious! I've been to a few Jiro-style ramen shops, but this one was my favorite. I arrived around 11:30 and luckily the restaurant wasn't too crowded, so I got a seat right away. However, after me, several groups came in and had to wait in line. It was lunchtime, but if you time it right, you might be able to get a seat without waiting. I did have to wait about 20 minutes for my ramen to arrive. It's all about timing, but the hunger while waiting and the anticipation for the bowl of ramen are all part of the experience.

During a business trip to Kushiro, I visited this place near my accommodation, where you order at a ticket machine and wait at the counter. The counter seats are spacious with partitions in between. I accidentally entered a Jiro-style ramen shop, known for its thick noodles, so it took some time. You can help yourself to cold water from the cooler at the entrance. I chose the Hell Miso flavor. There are free toppings available, but I wasn't sure how to get them. I asked for extra spicy with less garlic. The ramen had a good amount of bean sprouts and a small serving of garlic on top of thick noodles. The soup was not as miso-flavored as I expected, and the spiciness was mild despite being extra spicy. The 280g portion was quite filling. It was a satisfying meal.

I recommended the light option to a first-time visitor, so they ordered it. The noodles were quite thick, somewhere between ramen and udon. They explained that the light option doesn't have garlic in the soup, but it felt like it lacked punch and umami flavor. The toppings were pretty standard. Overall, I didn't find it delicious, so if I were to eat here again, I would choose something other than the light option. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit a restaurant with no parking. The interior only has a small counter with seating for about 10 people, so there's no waiting area. During my visit, it was raining heavily, and a few people were waiting outside when the restaurant opened. The staff first put up the curtain, then set up the flag, and only then let the customers inside. It was frustrating that they didn't let the customers waiting in the rain come in first. It's just another reason to deduct points from this place.

I think it's Jiro-style ramen, but I'm a bit disappointed that the portion is small. I understand that the cost of ingredients has gone up, but I would like them to offer extra noodles (mashi mashi) even if it's for an additional charge! The taste is good though.

This is the only place in Kushiro that can be called a Jiro-style ramen shop. It's a bit inconvenient that there is no parking lot, but the taste makes you want to go there!

This is the second Jiro-style ramen shop in Kushiro. The soup has a strong pork flavor. The noodles come in a hefty portion of 300g.
