It's been a long time since my last visit. When a business has been around for so long, things tend to change. The atmosphere of the restaurant remains the same, but I noticed a slight change in the way the ingredients are served.
The all-you-can-eat lamb and pork shabu-shabu started with a platter of lamb, pork, and vegetables (Chinese cabbage was omitted). The size of the meat was larger than before, and it felt quite hard when frozen. Especially the pork seemed downgraded. Previously, the pork was small in size, completely thawed, and very tender. I remember it was a brand pork called "Shiretoko" and there was a coupon in the free paper for a complimentary plate. The pork back then had thickness and was full of deliciousness without the fat being overwhelming. Now, it seems to be a reshaped belly part, sweet and delicious, but you can't eat too much due to the fat. The first plate looked nice in color, but from the second serving onwards, there were bloodstains making it less appealing. The taste remains the same, but the difference between the first plate and subsequent ones makes me feel a bit uneasy.
The lamb and pork slices are very thin, so you just need to dip them in the boiling water for about 20 seconds without moving them. I usually take them out with a small bowl, let them cool a bit, and then eat them, taking into account the residual heat. The lamb doesn't have as much lean meat as beef and you can hardly feel the fat, making you feel like you could eat it endlessly. It's truly light and refreshing. The vegetables include lettuce and tasteless spinach for shabu-shabu, along with other vegetables like watercress, burdock, and onions. Onions become sweet and delicious when cooked. Grated onions as a condiment are spicy, so the contrast is very enjoyable. Let's call it a "tsundere" ingredient. The bean sprouts were lightly chopped and slightly discolored, lacking freshness.
You should try the Asahikawa ramen for the finishing touch. If the curly noodles straighten out when pulled, it's a sign that they are ready to eat. I hope I'm not being too presumptuous. The sauce is soy sauce-based without any acidity, with a rich flavor. Have a wonderful evening experience.
Most restaurants tend to gather customers in one corner to improve their efficiency, but this place is a good restaurant that doesn't do such things. Although the semi-private rooms can accommodate about three groups, they assigned one group per room, so we could enjoy our meal and drinks very comfortably. Thank you. I revisited after 32 years in February 2013. It's introduced on a certain coupon site (free paper), so you can enjoy it even more affordably by using it. It's truly delightful that you can have all-you-can-eat lamb and pork shabu-shabu with all-you-can-drink for less than 4000 yen. Furthermore, the lamb and pork are sweet, tender, and delicious, passing through your throat like a cloud. First, lamb, pork, vegetable platter, and rice balls are prepared for two people each. The sauce and three types of condiments (chopped green onions, grated maple radish, grated onion) are also provided. This time, I was surprised by the amount of vegetables compared to last time. There were about two bags worth of bean sprouts, along with Chinese cabbage, watercress, burdock, spinach, onions, and tofu. This is more than enough. The meat is really thin, so just dipping it in hot water is enough. If you shabu-shabu it, it will become tough. The sauce was sweet and mellow soy sauce flavor this time, although I remember it being ponzu sauce last time. There are salt, pepper, and ichimi togarashi on the table, so it's fun to create various flavors with condiments. They also offered water without us asking and changed the utensils for removing scum. Additional orders were served promptly, and we had a very comfortable meal. I was very impressed by the cheerful and polite service. The ramen included in the all-you-can-eat menu is about one and a half servings, which is very considerate. Moreover, they use fresh noodles that are slightly undercooked, then rinsed with water to firm them up. It was a very enjoyable meal.
