The restaurant gives off a simple and unpretentious vibe, serving truly delicious food. The concept is to eat as much crab as you want, and I achieved that goal when I visited Otaru. The prices are reasonable, and the owner is friendly. The uni and ikura bowl I had at the beginning was overflowing with ingredients. Some may say the bowl is small, but for me, it was more than enough. It was a blissful moment battling with the crab for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I definitely want to visit again when I go to Otaru.

I arrived at Otaru Station around 10:30 a.m. When I passed through the Sankaku Market, I was tempted by the Harasu (salmon belly) 500g set meal. However, I decided to hold off as I thought there would be more variety around the Otaru Canal area. As I walked along Sakaimachi Dori in the snow, I noticed that the atmosphere was different from when I last visited. I came across a sign advertising a "makunai don" (staff meal bowl) for 900 yen, which included 5 different items. Despite the less-than-perfect presentation, I decided to try it to warm up from the cold outside. The restaurant had a large tank with crabs for sale, and they also offered seating for dining in. I ordered the "makunai don" and was surprised by the small size of the bowl when it arrived. The salmon, scallops, and tuna were diced into small pieces, and the portion was not very generous. On the other hand, there was a decent amount of ikura (salmon roe). The taste was average, and I couldn't help but feel that the price was a bit high for the limited content. As I walked along Sakaimachi Dori again, I noticed several seafood bowl restaurants displaying actual bowls outside to show their size, which was quite interesting.

During my trip to Hokkaido, I stopped by a shop in Otaru that mainly sells crab and offers eat-in options. I sat at a table with a live crab in a tank and ordered a mini crab and salmon roe bowl, a mini sea urchin and salmon roe bowl, and a local beer. The food was fresh and delicious, with generous portions of crab, salmon roe, and sea urchin. The mini bowls were reasonably priced at just over 1000 yen each. The shop had all the necessary condiments on the table for self-service. Overall, it's a great place to quickly enjoy a tasty bowl of seafood.

I stop first at the shop where the delicious smell is coming from. Fresh seafood from Hokkaido, such as scallops and squid. Inside the shop, you can buy Hokkaido's representative seafood like king crab, snow crab, and hairy crab, as well as scallops and salmon. There is also a dining area at the back of the shop. We ate there. I had a sea urchin and salmon roe bowl, and she had a hairy crab bowl. Both dishes were overflowing with volume. The sea urchin had a rich sweetness and a taste of the sea. The salmon roe was homemade and absolutely delicious. The hairy crab bowl was full of hairy crab meat! It was truly luxurious. You can also get a half-size portion because the rice portion is quite large. For women and others, the half size would be enough. I would love to visit this shop again when I go to Otaru.
