On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, I visited this restaurant for the first time, walking from JR Shiroishi Station. I saw Morisaki from TEAMNACS being introduced on the TV show "Honma Dekka TV" hosted by Akashiya Sanma, and had been wanting to visit if I ever had the chance to go to Sapporo. As I arrived right after the opening, there were no other customers. I was seated at the counter and ordered the Hiroshima-grown plump oysters (5 pieces for 1,350 yen), as well as the Zag SABA soup featured on TV for an additional 150 yen, with a mix of spices for 100 yen. I chose medium spiciness and normal rice portion. The curry and rice arrived in about 15 minutes. The ingredients in the soup curry included broccoli, eggplant, carrots, okra, asparagus, boiled egg, and plump oysters. When I took the first sip of the soup with a spoon, I was seriously amazed. It was one of the most delicious soup curries I have ever had, even among the top-rated restaurants on Tabelog. The vegetables and plump oysters were very tasty, and I quickly finished the rice by soaking it in the soup. Thank you for the meal. If I have the chance, I will definitely revisit this outstanding restaurant.

This time, my partner and I had a weekday off together, so we decided to visit this restaurant that we had been curious about but hadn't had the chance to go to before. There seems to be parking space for one car at the back of the restaurant, but you need to plan carefully when coming by car. The interior of the restaurant had a stylish atmosphere, and we chose a table near the entrance, although the chairs were a bit tricky to use (laughs). Anyway, after a while, our curry was served. It was unusual that you could choose not only the soup but also the spices here. For me, I tried the Sag Saba soup (spinach and mackerel) with the Green Maal (based on green chili), and it was quite to my liking (^_^) It had plenty of large chunks of minced meat, which made it very satisfying! There were many other menu items that caught my eye, so I definitely plan to visit again. Thank you for the meal (^o^)

After a long time in Sapporo, I had soup curry!! I wanted to try both chicken and oysters, and this is highly recommended. The oysters were so delicious that I wish I had ordered more. The chicken was also tasty, but the broccoli in the soup curry was truly amazing! The soup had a unique herb-like flavor? but overall, it was delicious.

Ordered the Zaku SABA with red soup, spice level 1, and chicken leg. The Zaku SABA I ordered was a mix between soup and curry. It wasn't too watery, probably because of the mackerel and spinach in it. Personally, I found this balance to be the best. The chicken leg was so tender that it could be easily shredded with a spoon. The various vegetables were delicious as well. I could taste the spices in the red soup at key points. Rather than being completely blended, it felt like the spices would occasionally stand out. I prefer a well-balanced soup curry over something too sharp, so I was very satisfied. This might have been the best soup curry I've ever had.

It's about a 10-minute walk from JR Shiraishi Station. I drove there and parked in a way that seemed like parallel parking, not sure if the spots in the back were for other customers or staff. I parked there anyway. When I arrived, there was one other customer already seated at the counter. I ordered the crispy chicken leg, green maaru, level 5 spiciness (I think), with broccoli topping. I had thought I would like the green maaru, and it was indeed delicious! Even though I had planned to try the red kaaru next time, I know I will definitely go for the green maaru rice again because it was so tasty! It's a restaurant I had missed even though I pass by it often. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

I knew that there was an unknown soup curry shop near Shiroishi Station. However, I didn't have a chance to visit it for a long time, so I had been neglecting the shop. Finally, I had the opportunity to visit the shop as I had work nearby. When I looked at the menu, I was surprised and slightly confused...lol 【Soup Type】 Types of soup: It's quite common to have several types of soup. - Original - Zaku Soup: Spinach base (¥100) - Saba Soup: Mackerel base (¥100) - Zaku Saba Soup: Spinach + Mackerel (¥150) - Coconut Soup (¥100) - Squid Ink Soup (¥200) However, the types of spices: What is this? - Red Karl: Korean red chili pepper, tomato, spice paste - Green Karl: Green chili pepper, lemon, spice paste - Mix of both for an additional ¥100 This time, as it was my first visit, I went with the basic option and decided to go for the maximum free level of spiciness, following my own rule. - Original Soup / Red Karl / Level 5 spiciness (free maximum) / Chicken / 300g of rice 【Soup】 The soup receives mixed reviews, or rather, it's a soup where personal preferences are clearly shown. Some may say it has "no taste", and I can understand that. However, I felt that this soup has something beyond "no taste" or "mild taste". It has a standard taste of Sapporo soup curry. The visual is inspired by HOODDOG, and the taste is reminiscent of "Kohi wa Usu". Both are famous shops, which means it's incredibly delicious. The scent of cardamom is subtle, and the spiciness is mild. The umami flavor is also mild... but the sweetness and umami of the vegetables, along with the light taste of dashi, bring the whole soup together softly and deliciously. The base soup, salt, and spices... that's all, but the strong umami beyond the "no taste" is amazing. 【Chicken】 Tender. No smell or lack of flavor. The chicken is prepared very carefully, with a light spice seasoning that enhances the umami of the chicken, making it a very refined and delicious chicken. 【Vegetables】 The greatness of this dish's taste lies in these vegetables! - Eggplant: Juicy when fried - Broccoli: Boiled, soft and fragrant - Potato: Boiled and peeled, with a very simple taste - Okra: Boiled, sweet and absorbing the soup well - Carrot: Boiled, sweet, soft, with a natural taste All these vegetables are cooked carefully, bringing out their sweetness and balance in a very natural way. 【Rice】 Visual similar to HOODDOG, but with a stronger turmeric and a prominent cumin aroma. The rice, cooked firm, complements the mellow soup very well. The rice is so delicious that you could eat it on its own. ◆ The first time I had soup curry was in June 2000 at Purupuru. At that time, I didn't know how to eat it, and ended up pouring the soup over the rice, causing all the soup to sink, a sad memory. lol I've been eating soup curry for 23 years since then, but this is the first time I've encountered a soup where "soup, salt, and spices" stand out so simply. I've come across an amazing soup. (However... I'm shocked that I didn't notice such an amazing shop for three years. My pride in having eaten at the beginning of the soup curry boom has crumbled... lol) Next time, I definitely want to try it with natto. I wonder how this soup will handle the powerful umami of natto, which has a strong impact? (There are many choices for soup and spice management, making it a shop for advanced enthusiasts.) As a gesture of respect for the shop, I quickly wiped the plate. (A sign of respect and gratitude to a shop that I truly found delicious) This shop is definitely the No. 1 soup curry shop of the year. It was delicious, and I will come again (soon). Thank you for the meal! For more soup curry shop recommendations, visit: https://www.ok-yo4.com/curry

I visited this place for the first time, there were people lining up in front of the shop but we managed to get a seat. The menu is extensive and it's hard to decide what to order, it's exciting. I had the tender chicken leg and plump oysters in a tangy Saba soup with green noodles, while my wife ordered the hearty braised pork and spicy daikon in the original red soup. We also ordered pickled vegetables and achhar as side dishes. We had to wait a bit, but as soon as I took the first bite, I thought "This is delicious!" The flavor of the mackerel was rich and there was also a hint of spinach, it was a new experience for me. My wife also said she wants to come back because it's so tasty. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and I'm looking forward to trying other flavors next time. Thank you for the meal.

Tender simmered pork belly with spicy daikon radish, garlic, and spinach soup. The red and green spice mix adds a punch with a spiciness level of 5. The garlic-infused soup has a strong flavor that, combined with the spices, makes you break a sweat. Detox complete. @karumaru_soupcurry

Arrived around 11 AM on Saturday. One group of customers ahead of me. This is my second visit in 5 months. The background music changed from jazz to a singer-songwriter called Clairo. I didn't recognize the name, it was just displayed on the monitor (laughs). This time, I ordered the "Hiroshima-grown plump oysters" (1250 yen) with squid ink soup (+200 yen), spice level "Green Maru", and spiciness level 3. When it comes to squid ink soup, I think of "Suage Plus"! I love it. It arrived about 10 minutes later, following the previous order. The soup was pitch black, with an incredible amount of squid ink settled at the bottom! It was fragrant, rich, and delicious!! The spiciness level 3 was just right for someone who prefers medium spiciness. "Green Maru" provided a refreshing contrast to the richness of the soup. The oysters, 5 in total, were indeed plump and delicious!! I was very satisfied with the taste once again. But I still think I prefer the squid ink soup from "Suage Plus". This time, I'll leave the rating of "dish/taste" as 5 stars pending (laughs). The staff didn't talk to me this time... Next time, I'll finally try the "Sag SABA Soup"!

I have tried various soup curries, but this was the first time I felt a seafood-based flavor. As a seafood lover, I really enjoyed it. I ordered this month's special curry: beef marinated in fish sauce curry. Even looking at the menu, you can feel the emphasis on seafood ingredients. First, I enjoyed the main ingredient of the soup curry, the fish sauce-marinated beef. When I bite into the meat, fish essence seeps out... A new sensation. The meat and fish, two different sources of protein, intertwine...!? The umami flavor spreads throughout my mouth. Perhaps because the main focus was on the fish sauce-marinated beef, I also felt the fish flavor in the soup itself. Maybe they added fish broth to the soup regardless of the beef. It's like hearing the sound of the waves... Thank you for the meal. This is a dish I would recommend to seafood lovers.

The restaurant I was aiming for was closed. It's a common thing, isn't it? After reporting it to Tabelog, I searched nearby and found this place. It seems that it was opened by childhood friends. The menu instructions say to order from 1 to 6: 1. Soup type 2. Spice type 3. Spiciness level 4. Amount of rice 5. Main menu 6. Toppings. I ordered the "Tender Pork Shabu-Shabu" (1150 yen) with original soup, red spice, spiciness level 4, and a small portion of rice (100g). The soup had a tomato flavor and was light and tasty. The ingredients included broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, eggplant, potatoes, quail eggs, okra, and plenty of pork belly shabu-shabu meat. The broccoli was crunchy and delicious. Each vegetable was prepared with care. The turmeric rice with cumin seeds was cooked perfectly and paired well with the soup. My companion ordered the "Lamb Mince with Garlic Chives" (1250 yen) with original soup, green spice, spiciness level 3, and a regular portion of rice (200g). The green soup was refreshing and tasty. It would be nice to have a hamburger as well. Next time, I'll try the vegetable curry with the green soup! Thank you, "Ka-ru Ma-ru"!

The appearance is quite red, but the spicy oil is not strong, so it's not the type that makes you cough easily. It's a very easy-to-eat curry. When you max out the spiciness level, you'll definitely break a sweat. The rice has cumin seeds and other spices in it, and the spices are prominent. The soup has whole cloves in it, and towards the end, there may be some spice powder accumulated, with a strong cardamom flavor that I've never experienced before. Despite the strong presence of spices, it's not powdery at all, and it's a very delicious curry with high-level flavors.

"Horo-Horo Chicken Leg (1050 yen) with Original Soup. The red curry spiciness level 5 was not quite to my liking, perhaps due to the various unique aspects they have. The interior of the restaurant seemed a bit cluttered and the soup at the counter was left uncovered. The soup had a strong vegetable sweetness, which seemed healthier than curry. The saffron rice was on the softer side, possibly due to the free spiciness level 5 being watery. It might be better to increase the spiciness level and choose different spices separately. If given the chance, I would try it again. Thank you for the meal."

I finally visited the restaurant "Karumaru" in Kitago, Shirakawa-ku, which I had been curious about every time I passed by. I went around 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon and there was only one group of customers, so we were seated quickly. Three more groups arrived later. Ordering at this restaurant involves choosing the type of soup, the type of spices, specifying the level of spiciness and rice quantity, choosing the main ingredients, and adding toppings. The menu book is very easy to understand, with clear photos of the main ingredients, making it very user-friendly. I chose the most popular option, the "Sag Saba" soup type, which includes both chicken and mackerel. The spice type I chose was the most popular "MIX," which has a base of Korean red pepper and tomato. I opted for the spiciest level (5) and the basic rice size (200g). For the main ingredients, I struggled between the unique options like "Lamb and Nira" and "Natto and Ground Meat," but ended up choosing the "Tender Chicken Leg and Plump Oysters." I added the "Burnt Cumin" topping. The curry arrived promptly, with a clear and vibrant spice aroma. The hot soup had a trio, or even a quartet, of umami flavors. The mackerel's umami and aroma were present without any fishy smell. The sweetness of vegetables, especially tomatoes and onions, did not overpower the dish. The chicken leg was truly tender and flavorful, not overcooked or lacking in flavor. The oysters were large and plump, with incredible umami. I thoroughly enjoyed the burnt cumin's aroma and the slight crunch. The yellow rice, when ordered in a smaller portion, was served in a heart shape. It was a taste experience that reminded me of the first time I tried soup curry over 30 years ago or miso ramen even earlier. It was incredibly delicious. I realized after ordering that I had a 100 yen topping coupon available if I became LINE friends with the restaurant, so I need to go back within a month to use it.

Long time no see, Karl Marx-san. It's been a while since I last visited because the location is a bit tricky and there's limited parking... Today, after much deliberation, I decided to try the monthly curry. It had oysters and surf clams. It arrived in about 15 minutes and was very generous with the ingredients. The oysters were plump and delicious. The surf clams were a bit tough though. However, there were plenty of mushrooms and vegetables, and I was very satisfied. Every vegetable was tasty. I asked for maximum spiciness, but I think I could handle more. I look forward to trying something different next time! They have a variety of soups to choose from, so it seems like a fun place to explore.

"Garanasoup", red circle, chicken, level of spiciness 5. A soup made with "Garan", a well-known ingredient among the locals. I had been wanting to try it since I found out about it, but White Ishi is out of my usual area, so it took me about a year to finally visit. You can definitely taste the "Garan". It's like coffee or chocolate, with a unique sweet aroma that is hard to describe. It's unmistakably "Garan". However, it doesn't have a strong presence, but rather blends in naturally with the other flavors. It's so natural that first-time eaters might not even notice it. It's interesting and shows a lot of trial and error, and a sense of creativity. The slight bitterness is probably a characteristic of "Garan", and it's delicious! The rice is skillfully cooked, not too dry, and the side dishes are as tasty as ever. The Achar is fragrant, and the cumin stir-fry is delicious. I wish this place was closer so I could visit more often."

I ordered the leek and lamb minced meat for 1250 yen, along with sag soup, green peas, spiciness level 2, and 100g of rice. The flavor balance was good with a strong taste. Even though the spiciness was toned down, the spices were still present. I've been wanting to eat sag curry recently, so I was happy to discover this restaurant. It was delicious. Next, I want to try the galangal challenge. The atmosphere was nice and the coffee was also delicious.

I revisited the restaurant to try the Sag soup that I was looking forward to after hearing about it last time. Compared to the original soup, this one had a slightly thicker consistency. I wonder if this is due to the spinach paste blending in? I didn't feel any of the green bitterness I was worried about, and the flavor became richer and more intense. It was delicious! I chose the tender chicken leg and opted for the mild spice level as I'm not a fan of very spicy food. The server mentioned that the green option would be very spicy, so I went with the red one. It was really tasty. I don't think it had anything to do with changing the spice level, but for some reason, I found myself sweating more this time... maybe because I was sitting in a sunny spot? I'm thinking of trying the monthly specials next time.

I discovered this restaurant by looking at the food log. Although I often pass by it, I didn't know it existed. Feeling embarrassed, I couldn't resist the temptation and told my wife that I couldn't resist it, so I went to eat soup curry! I visited on a holiday afternoon, a little late, so there were no other customers except me. I sat at the counter and talked a little with the master. I was grateful to hear the details about the differences in soups. I could order with confidence. Since it was my first time, I ordered the original soup with a red circle, chicken leg curry with oysters. The chicken leg was really tender and delicious. The oysters also had a rich ocean scent. The soup was spicy, and occasionally there were solid pieces left in the mouth, which I think were fragments of some kind of spice. I also felt a refreshing scent like lemongrass or lime. The soup was so flavorful that it went well with the rice. I hadn't experienced such a solid soup curry before, and the turmeric rice was cooked well and very delicious! I really want to try the sag soup next time!
