When I went to Izakaya Edoya, I found out about it from a booklet with coupons from the shopping street. It was our first visit with my friend. We ordered the following items: Raw Lamb Roast for 850 yen, Beef Sagari for 800 yen, Beef Kalbi (with sauce) for 700 yen, Rice for 250 yen, Calpis for 275 yen (complimentary with the coupon), and an appetizer for 275 yen. We arrived a little before the opening time and saw many lanterns hanging, creating a bright atmosphere. Since the lanterns were already lit before the opening time, we didn't have to worry about whether they were open or not. I'm not sure if they have a limited menu due to COVID-19 or if it's always been like this, but having fewer options made it easier for us to choose. They offer both meat and seafood dishes. We ordered our usual dishes and enjoyed grilling the meat on the shichirin. The meat was thick and delicious, and even though there was a lot of smoke, the inside of the restaurant was clean. Overcooking the meat might make it tough, but it was best when grilled crispy. The lamb had no peculiar taste, and the Sagari was my favorite. The sauce was thick and rich, which I'm not usually a fan of, but it didn't bother me. The rice was offered in a larger portion for free, so we asked for one to be a bit larger. The appetizer included kimchi and salted cabbage, which was surprisingly cheap at 275 yen. The beer was also delicious, and my friend even commented on how good Sapporo Malt's is. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, all drinks except for sake and bottled beer are 330 yen. The restaurant used to be a dining hall called Toraya, but it seems like they inherited the name. The owner is friendly and mentioned that they commute from Sapporo, so I guess they're not from the local area. I wish I had known about this place during its dining hall days, but oh well. It was a pleasant experience, and I look forward to visiting again.
