~Continuing the Tradition of German Beer Across Generations to Japan~ Another report from Otaru (laughs) I visited the popular establishment "Otaru Warehouse No.1," known for serving delicious craft beer on tap! Their commitment to adhering to the "Beer Purity Law," which states that only malt, hops, and water should be used in brewing, is quite appealing, don't you think? Located in the brick warehouse district along the Otaru Canal, which is a common photo spot, this beer pub is very popular! It seems that if you make a reservation through this site or other gourmet sites, you can enter without waiting, but our attempt to visit without a reservation was a total failure... we had to wait for about 40 minutes before being seated (laughs). We had to fill out a waiting sheet at the register and wait! If you just want to enjoy craft beer without food, you can order on a form and use the second-floor seating, where the beer is poured and served promptly, so it's recommended for those who just want to enjoy beer! We were a bit hungry, so we patiently waited (laughs). While waiting, we spent some time in the free tour area on the second floor, which is also nice! Some people were visiting the tour area with flushed cheeks from drinking after their meal (laughs). Until 5 p.m., you can also use the terrace seats along the canal, so if you have no plans like work or driving, you can enjoy Otaru beer while leisurely gazing at the canal during the day! Finally, we were seated and ready to quench our thirst! (laughs) This time, we ordered the following and enjoyed them! [Beers] "Pilsner, Dunkel, Weisse, Himbeere Bier (on the first floor)" "Waldmeister, Radler, Schwarze (on the second floor for drinks only)" * I tried all of them in a small size for comparison (laughs) [A la carte] "Caesar Salad ¥550" "Sausage Plate ¥1,078" "German Potato ¥748" "Bridge Toast ¥858" All the beers are served on tap, making them easy to drink and incredibly delicious! The raspberry-flavored "Himbeere Bier" is sweet and easy to drink, making it very popular with women! My personal favorite was the "Weisse"! It's refreshing, fruity, and incredibly easy to drink and delicious! The a la carte menu is reasonably priced and very tasty! It seemed like the hall staff were understaffed during the busy period, as the chef himself was seen bringing dishes to the tables! The German potatoes in Hokkaido are incredibly sweet and delicious! Especially the mozzarella cheese and French bread "Bridge Toast" is excellent! The crispy French bread has a crunchy texture, and the rich mozzarella cheese pairs perfectly with it, making it easy to eat and highly recommended! Although our stomachs were starting to fill up from the a la carte, we decided to indulge in more Otaru beer (laughs). Since we had come all the way to Otaru, we wanted to taste all the beers, and some customers were patiently waiting for their turn, so we vacated our seats, settled the bill, and then headed to the second round to order more beer. The atmosphere on the second floor allows you to experience the ambiance of a German beer pub while slowly savoring delicious Otaru beer! We quickly finished our delicious drinks and food! The place was quite lively, making it difficult to overhear conversations, which was nice! When you visit Otaru, I recommend "Otaru Warehouse No.1" for a unique Otaru beer experience and delicious a la carte dishes for a sophisticated adult experience! Please be careful not to drink too much (laughs). There were also many families with children enjoying themselves, which was nice! It was a very delicious experience! Thank you for the meal.

Otaru's popular dinner spot. The food is average, but the beer is delicious. I love the "Lardra" beer, mixed with lemonade. I drank it all in seconds. There is also a free tour on the second floor, so you can enjoy it. ⭐️

While strolling along the Otaru Canal, we spotted people enjoying beer at a terrace seat on the opposite bank. Feeling thirsty and it still being before noon, we found a table. My friend ordered a beer while I opted for an apple soda to quench my thirst. The pate was fresh with a perfect balance of salt, and the flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg were delightful as the meat and fat melted in my mouth. Delicious! The German pizza had a crispy crust with sour cream sauce, onions, and sausage toppings - different from the usual pizza, but still great! It seemed like something that could be recreated at home with a Flammkuchen recipe. The sausage platter at the beer hall was a must-try, each with unique flavors and all delicious! The schnitzel was more substantial than expected, a thin crispy pork cutlet with potato fries, perfect to wash down with beer. We were able to experience the authentic atmosphere of a German beer hall, savoring the distinct flavors and enjoying the essence of the experience.

I used it when I traveled to Otaru. The store was spacious and had a nice atmosphere. There weren't as many types of craft beer as I thought, but they were delicious. The most delicious was the calzone, which was filled with plenty of cheese and was exquisite.

On the third day of summer vacation in Hokkaido, we visited this restaurant for dinner. We arrived around 7pm on a weekday and found it very crowded, so we walked around Otaru Canal to pass the time before getting a table. Despite the long wait, we were seated relatively quickly. The highlight of this restaurant is definitely the beer! We tried the Pilsner, Dunkel, and Schwarzbier, and they were all delicious. We also ordered some sausages as appetizers, which were also very tasty. We had a great time eating and drinking with our family of four, and the total bill was only 10,000 yen. Such a great deal! The atmosphere was also fantastic. If you're in Otaru at night, be sure to visit this place. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I stopped by for a break while strolling in Otaru. The warehouse atmosphere, furniture, glasses, and plates all added to the ambiance. The beer was great, and the food was delicious as well - Caesar salad, cream pasta, Margherita pizza, and Wiener were all tasty. However, the non-alcoholic beer was extremely sweet and I couldn't finish it. It's completely different from typical non-alcoholic beers, so be careful. I bought a cute Otaru Beer T-shirt in moss green for 1500 yen as a souvenir.

I visited around 3:00 pm without a reservation. Although there were available seats, we were not immediately seated. Perhaps the staff was overwhelmed? After waiting for about 15 minutes while looking at souvenirs, we were finally shown to our table. We ordered beers for two and non-alcoholic drinks for two, along with some snacks. The menu had a good variety of typical beer hall dishes. Since we were saving room for dinner, we ordered a small amount of food: sauerkraut salad, assorted cold cuts, and smoked meats. The food was decent and enjoyable. For those who want to enjoy beer, this place is great. They offer a wide selection of beer sizes – small, medium, and large. The non-alcoholic cherry cider is highly recommended; it has a rich and sweet flavor that is quite addictive. Unfortunately, the cherry soda is only available at the Otaru Beer Hall and cannot be purchased in cans or bottles elsewhere. I hope they consider selling it in a more portable form like the beer. The beer souvenirs are quite affordable compared to other craft beers, making them a great gift option.

I ordered two types of dark beer as I don't like hoppy beers. The names of the beers were Donkel and the darkest one, which I can't remember. The large beer mugs were as heavy as 2-3kg dumbbells. The mixed potato fries were delicious, with thick sweet potatoes. The currywurst had a sweet curry sauce. The chicken cutlet with tartar sauce was served on a large silver plate, so it's best to sit at a spacious table. The brewery tour was crowded, but the spacious interior made it not too bothersome. The staff, though few, were attentive. I had a great time enjoying the atmosphere and beer!

Whenever I come to Otaru, I always rely on this place after dinner. It's smoother if you make a reservation in advance, but it seems like a lot of people are waiting if you don't. There are few staff members, so the restaurant doesn't run very smoothly. Also, it takes about 20 minutes to be served. Despite the 20-minute wait, the food is delicious, and I always come back. I usually order appetizers after eating seafood for dinner, and the prosciutto and sausages are delicious!

I have a memory of being taken to Otaru by an acquaintance from Sapporo quite a while ago. It had been a while since I visited the Otaru Canal. When you think of Otaru, you think of craft beer, right? We started with a free tour and wandered around before sitting down. The canal right in front of us had a really nice atmosphere. The beer was delicious.

On the third day in Hokkaido, I stayed at OMO5 Otaru by Hoshino Resorts. After checking in, I strolled around the streets of Otaru. The town looked a bit different from when I last visited before the pandemic. I ordered a Pilsner and smoked snacks at a beer hall along the canal. The beer was delicious.

This is a spacious beer hall along the canal. I came here to drink beer on the terrace while enjoying the view of the canal. It's awesome to be able to drink beer outside while looking at the canal! You can enjoy beer on the terrace until 5 pm. After securing a seat, you can order beer using the order sheet available on empty tables. It's a bit challenging to open the door to the terrace, but a kind stranger behind me helped. The beer here is Pilsner, and I've been here a few times. The food and non-alcoholic beer are also delicious. Sometimes there may be a wait as seats can be reserved. The terrace is directly under the sun, so it can get really hot, but drinking beer on this terrace on a hot day is a must-do when in Otaru. I'm glad I was able to do it and I will definitely go back!

While sightseeing at Otaru Canal, I stumbled upon a nice beer hall and decided to go in. It had a very historic atmosphere, so I enjoyed a local beer while sitting by the canal. Despite being a tourist spot, the prices were reasonable and the beer was delicious. I had a great time enjoying Otaru Canal while sipping on my beer. We also got to tour the beer factory inside the facility, which was a fun experience.

- Day/Time: Friday/7:45 PM - Wait time: 5 minutes - Order: Otaru Beer Pilsner Small (517 yen) - Access: 12 minutes walk from Otaru Station - Interior: 1st floor has table seating, counter, and terrace seating (until 5 PM), 2nd floor has table seating - Customer base: Groups, tourists, couples - Payment: Credit card - Note: A visit after 5 years to this Otaru Beer pub and brewery located in a warehouse along the canal. Opted for the less crowded 2nd floor for drinks only. Tables available on the viewing walkway. Ordered a small Pilsner, which had a generous amount despite being a small size. Crisp taste with a strong hop bitterness and a wheaty flavor. Would like to come back and enjoy it leisurely in the future.

On a Friday night in July, I made a reservation for two at a counter seat facing the pot still at this bustling establishment. The place was filled with tourists and locals. The beer was reasonably priced. I ordered what I thought was a small pint for 1200 yen, but it turned out to be a mega-sized glass commonly seen in Munich, Germany. I was quite surprised. The German beers were faithfully recreated here, with the Weizen being fruity and packing a punch. After the mega-sized Pilsner and Weizen, I tried the Dunkel and Schwarzbier in a smaller size. Despite the large crowd, the food was served promptly. The view of the restaurant from the second floor was captivating and never got boring.

I stopped by the Otaru Beer Brewery's beer hall "Otaru Soko No.1" along the Otaru Canal for a beer break, my second stop after the Kitakichi Hall. The traditional building made of natural stone on the outside and wooden frame on the inside is a must-see in Otaru. The atmosphere is calm and surrounded by wood, with a view of the canal and sightseeing boats from the windows. I ordered a "Dunkel (M)" beer for 671 yen. This beer is a dark beer with a hint of sweetness and caramel flavor, thanks to the double decoction method. It was delicious. I wanted to try some food as well, but since it was early, the sign at the entrance said "drinks only," so I had to skip it. I didn't want to end up drinking too much if I stayed longer. I enjoyed just one glass. Thank you for the meal.

Entering the Hokkaido section, we decided to go to this place where you can drink during the day. The antique interior of the Otaru Warehouse is very stylish. When it comes to German beer, the sauerkraut for 550 yen is not incredibly delicious, but sometimes you just crave it. I wanted to try the Eisbein, but since we were eating on the go, I settled for the homemade terrine for 580 yen. It was actually quite tasty. The Weizen (large) for 1200 yen is easy to drink, with not much banana flavor. It goes down smoothly. The Waldmeister (small) for 470 yen was chosen for its herbal taste. It does have a herbal flavor, but it's sweet and not difficult to drink at all. I personally like it, but it depends on your taste preferences. 😄

Anyway, I had to wait!! Even though there were seats available, I had to wait!! The spacious restaurant was being managed by a single woman who handled everything from seating to payment to serving and cleaning up, so the place was a bit chaotic. Despite this, she greeted us with a smile and was very pleasant! We sat on the terrace, and the weather was nice, so it was quite enjoyable. If you want a terrace seat, you have to pay first at the counter and pour your own beer before finding a seat. The person pouring the beer seemed a bit unpleasant... I understand they were busy, but their attitude and expression made me wonder if they were angry. The beer was good and the view was nice, so overall it was okay... Just be careful because the small size beer is as big as a medium-sized glass.

Discovered a place where you can drink during the day. It's a shop along the Otaru Canal. The interior is spacious and open. You can sit at any available table, fill out the order form provided, and hand it to the staff. [Kraut Salad ¥500] A refreshing salad made with cabbage, bacon, and lemon, with a salty and flavorful taste that is addictive. I really like this. [Dunkelweiss ¥550] I ordered this summer limited item. You can choose from sizes S to L. It was a Sunday but it wasn't crowded, so we were able to enjoy ourselves just fine.

This was the number one restaurant I wanted to visit in Otaru. The restaurant is based on German beer and the atmosphere was like a German Oktoberfest. The beer mugs were also a medium size, similar to a medium-sized mug in Japan. The portion sizes of the food were surprisingly large. I particularly liked the Ice Vinegar and my wife enjoyed the Garlic Butter Grilled Clams. Even after finishing our meal, we were satisfied with the tour of the beer factory. (In the middle of the seating area, there is a pod where they actually make beer, and the smell of malt fills the restaurant.)

When researching for a trip to Otaru, I found a place where my favorite beer is all-you-can-drink for 2,200 yen. It's a good deal! The event is only held on Thursdays and Saturdays, so it's best to aim for those days. The food is okay, so I think it's best to focus on the drinks.
