This is "Kitano Ace" at Tokyu Department Store... a well-known food select shop in mainland Japan, but when they expanded to Hokkaido, they opened under a different name in Ikeuchi, and I have been a frequent customer since then. This time, I used it for my year-end shopping, without any specific purpose in mind, just hoping to find something... In the end, I bought "quail eggs". They are boiled quail eggs, individually wrapped, with a mix of white eggs and brown boiled eggs. When you eat them, the lightly seasoned taste with a dashi flavor is elegant and perfect for snacks or treats, and would go well as a side dish for sake. This shop is handy when you want a slightly different sake snack, and they also have a unique selection of ingredients like seasonings and rice, which is different from your usual supermarket. I highly recommend their retort "curry udon". I will definitely visit again.

After a hiatus of about 4 years, I returned to Sapporo Tokyu Food Show in July 2018. I noticed that there were quite a few new tenants since my last visit. One of the new shops that caught my eye was "Kitano Ace," a food-related select shop with locations nationwide. They have a wide range of products, focusing on groceries and sweets, including their own brand called "Kitano Selection." I visited this shop with my usual companion for the first time. The shop is located in the JR Sapporo Station J area, on the basement floor of Sapporo Tokyu Department Store. We purchased some sweets and pickled items, including the unique "Sekai no Yamachan Yaki Okaki Tebasaki Flavor." The snack had a strong spice flavor and a hard texture, perfect for snacking with beer. We also bought the "Mirusamon" special sale item, a delicious salmon and vegetable mille-feuille. Lastly, we tried the "Musekibetsu Ebi Senage," a light and crispy shrimp-flavored snack. Overall, the snacks were tasty and enjoyable. My daughter-in-law bought some Tanba black beans as a souvenir for my father-in-law. I forgot the weight, but it was 1,000 yen per bag. They both like these simple things. The sweet sake was not overly sweet, the brown sugar yogurt drink had a strong and sweet flavor, the pickled mustard leaf and enoki mushroom dish had a chewy texture with a hint of spiciness, the extra thick udon noodles were chewy and delicious, and the chicken curry had a noticeable hint of spices, a medium level of spiciness, and a light acidity from mango chutney and coconut milk. Whenever I visit this type of store, my excitement gets the best of me and I end up buying more than I planned. It was a delicious meal.
