This month's fifth food adventure was at "Yasashii Curry", where I tried their weekend special curry "Katsu Curry" for lunch. The restaurant's signboard mentioned "Curry x Japanese side dishes"... Japanese side dishes with curry? The curry base using Japanese dashi was a unique experience. The main menu offers three types of curry - chicken, beef, and lamb, each with a different base. Additionally, there is a monthly special and a value-packed "Mini Curry Set" featuring fried chicken, pork cutlet, and hamburg steak. The weekend special curry also includes katsu, hamburg, and fried chicken options, as well as soup curry. I chose the Katsu Curry from the special menu, opting for the spicy level "spicy" (out of sweet, mild, spicy, very spicy for an additional fee), and added a seasoned boiled egg as a topping. I also ordered an iced coffee. While waiting for my order, I read a story written by the owner about the concept of "Curry x Japanese side dishes", which showcased their passion and dedication to curry. After a 20-minute wait, a generous 150g pork cutlet atop the curry was served, accompanied by homemade fukujinzuke. The curry roux was rich in acidity, sweetness from onions, and umami, with a subtle spiciness. The cutlet had a crispy coating, juicy and tender inside. The seasoned boiled egg was indeed a highlight with its perfect texture. The homemade fukujinzuke had a gentle flavor. The Japanese side dishes of cucumber, carrot, daikon radish, and onions complemented the curry well. Overall, I discovered a great restaurant that opened in February this year, located behind The Big Express Hiragishi store. The cozy interior had 6 counter seats, 2 table seats, and possibly 1 raised seating area (not confirmed). There is no dedicated parking, so I parked at a nearby coin parking lot.

A stylish and tranquil restaurant with a sophisticated atmosphere. I was curious about the combination of Japanese side dishes and curry, and I was surprised at how well cucumbers and lotus roots complemented the curry. The menu for Japanese side dishes changes daily, which adds an element of excitement. I had the Pork Curry with Nishikyo Miso (I believe it was a limited-time special) and my companion had the Lamb Curry. Both dishes were incredibly delicious, with the meat's richness perfectly integrated into the curry. The Lamb Curry, true to its name, had a distinct lamb flavor that blended surprisingly well with the curry. I highly recommend it to those who are not averse to lamb. We also ordered Lubby (apparently a superior version of lassi) as our drink. It was sweet but not overly so, and it paired wonderfully with the curry. I urge all of you to visit this outstanding restaurant at least once.

Located near the Hiranishi area, right next to BIG on Hiranishi-dori, this curry restaurant does not have its own parking lot, so you'll have to find parking around the area. The restaurant offers a combination of curry and Japanese side dishes, which intrigued me, so I decided to visit for lunch. The interior has a cozy atmosphere with an L-shaped counter and raised table seating, reminiscent of a traditional Japanese izakaya. The curry menu is not extensive, with options like chicken "horo-horo," beef "puru-puru," lamb "kuse-kuse," as well as a combination curry and a monthly special. I wanted to try a variety of curries, so I ordered the "combination curry (1,680 yen)" which allows you to try two types of curry. I chose the most popular "horo-horo" and "puru-puru" curries, both at the second spiciest level. The male owner runs the restaurant alone and takes time to prepare the curry carefully, so there may be a bit of a wait. The dish arrived with a mound of rice dividing the two curries, accompanied by four kinds of Japanese side dishes. Both curries had a rich and flavorful taste, with a slightly high fat content for my liking, but well-cooked and delicious. The "horo-horo" curry had a visually appealing large chicken leg that easily shredded with a spoon due to its tender texture. The "puru-puru" curry contained beef tendons that lived up to its name with a gelatinous texture and a stronger fatty flavor compared to the "horo-horo." The Japanese side dishes were subtly flavored but surprisingly complemented the curry well. The spiciness level was not too intense even at the second spiciest level, so those who enjoy spicy food may want to opt for the extra spicy option for an additional fee. The portion size was not overly generous, and the prices were not cheap, but the curry itself was delicious, making it a good choice for those who love curry roux.

#Easy Curry#Toyohira Park#Sapporo Lunch Combo Curry (1680 yen) with Mackerel Topping (200 yen), spicy (might try extra spicy next time). The side dishes included carrot salad, broccoli pickles, onion pickles, and lotus root stew. All were delicious! The homemade Fukujin pickles were also full of flavor. The lamb curry had a unique taste that I loved! The meat was tender and juicy, and the chicken was surprisingly hearty. The mackerel curry was good, but I prefer mackerel that blends in more with the curry. Each dish was carefully prepared. The spices were just right, not overpowering, making it a comforting curry. It was a relaxing lunch on a holiday, with only a couple of other customers. It took about 20 minutes from ordering to serving. #Curry #Spices #SpiceAddict #DeliciousFood #SpicyFoodLover #Lunch #SapporoCurry #CurryLover #Foodie #Sapporo #CurryClub #Yummy #Japan #HappyLunchtime #SapporoCurryClub

On my first visit, I ordered the "Tender Chicken" and "Savory Lamb" combination. The restaurant boasts "Japanese home-style dishes" on its sign, and when the dishes were brought out, there was a detailed explanation about the side dishes. Despite ordering the spicy option, the flavors were gentle and not overpowering. It seems that at this restaurant, it's better to opt for a mildly spicy dish and savor the flavors slowly. The chicken was indeed tender as described, and the lamb was well-cooked without any strong taste. I look forward to trying the beef on my next visit.

Toyohira Ward, Hiragishi area. This shop is located next to a Zangi shop and has been beautifully renovated with a sense of cleanliness. The free parking service from Big has been discontinued. The location and prices seem to be a bit of a disadvantage for this shop. How is the taste? The water is at room temperature. It's a bit lukewarm. I ordered the "Tender Chicken Curry" (1280 yen) with an extra 300g portion (50 yen). The curry has a straightforward taste, with mild spiciness, moderate animal-based richness, and quite a strong acidity. It's a mysterious curry where you can tell that various ingredients are packed in, but you can't quite imagine what they are or how they are combined. Personally, I wish they would subtract some elements. The strong acidity makes the animal-based umami feel weak. Perhaps this is to eliminate any odor. It's a new sensation to have a strong spiciness but at the level of medium to hot Jawa curry, creating a unique experience. The "Chicken Leg" is described as being "boiled at 80°C for 8 hours until tender," but it tastes a bit bland. It's not as flavorful as expected, and a curry-topped chicken leg at this price range should have more umami. Disappointing. The rice has a slight odor. The taste is not bad. The side dishes are delicious, but they don't complement the curry well. They don't stand out at all. Overall, Heineken small bottle is 200 yen, and Asahi medium bottle is 350 yen. They offer beer at a low price! I have pointed out some areas of concern, but I am rooting for them. Thank you for the meal.

First time at this restaurant. I tried the monthly menu item, "Lamb Keema Curry," in a spicy version. The lamb flavor was rich, with no hint of gaminess. Lamb meat can be tricky to handle, and how it is prepared can really showcase a restaurant's skill. This dish was truly impressive!! When it comes to curry, the trend is for spices to hit you first, but here the spices are there to enhance the flavor of the ingredients. The focus is on the flavor first, with the spices amplifying it, so if you prefer a curry with a strong spice kick, this might not be for you. However, the flavor of the ingredients really shines through, and this curry is incredibly delicious without relying on overpowering spices. As long as you don't mind a bit of heat, the "spicy" option is perfectly fine. This curry is not for those seeking extreme spiciness. The homemade Fukushin pickles and the daily side dish of Japanese-style dishes were delicious on their own, and the mild curry did not clash with the side dishes at all. In an area crowded with curry restaurants, this curry that emphasizes Japanese-style dishes and flavor is unique and highly recommended. Seriously, it was so delicious!!

On my way back from the street, I stopped by a new curry restaurant in Toyohira for some shopping. It was past 1 PM when I visited, and there were no customers in the store except for a single male owner managing everything alone. After reading Mairebi's review mentioning "Japanese-style curry," I decided to order my favorite, the hamburger curry set (1000 yen). The set came with a drink service, and I chose oolong tea. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be served. The plate included a salad with watercress, leaf lettuce, and shredded seaweed with a Japanese-style dressing. The hamburger was cute and round, made with 150g of mixed ground meat, juicy and chewy. The curry sauce was served in a small cocotte, with a slight tangy and spicy flavor, possibly from mustard seeds. It wasn't too spicy and complemented the hamburger well. The rice bowl was small, but the owner kindly offered free refills. They also had a special offer on beer, with Heineken bottles at 200 yen and Asahi Super Dry at 350 yen. Even if you're not in the mood for curry, it's worth stopping by for a drink. Thank you, Yasakare, for the delicious meal!

Visited on a Sunday night. There was no one inside the restaurant. The fried chicken and curry set meal was a great deal! You can have unlimited rice refills. The set includes a huge piece of fried chicken, curry, and a drink for only 1,000 yen, which is quite satisfying. I chose a drink called "Labibee" (seems to have eggs in it) and it was delicious. The "Sheep's Smell" curry, as the name suggests, has a strong sheep smell, but it is delicious for lamb lovers with addictive spices. The side dishes are also tasty and good for your health. I would like to try the chicken and beef curry as well. If you show a receipt from the nearby super BIG supermarket, you can get a 100 yen discount. Highly recommended!

Arrived at the supermarket "The Big Express" in Hiragishi just after opening at 10:30 on a Saturday. It's located at the back, previously a place called "Sapporo Zangi Honpo" that I had never visited. The interior is dimly lit with a calm atmosphere and jazz playing in the background. The young owner runs the place alone. They offer three types of curry: "Tender Chicken," "Jiggly Beef," and "Quirky Lamb," each with its own unique twist. You can mix and match, and the toppings have interesting names in katakana. I ordered the "Tender Chicken" curry with a topping of "Machigai Naiyatsu" (soft-boiled egg) and chose medium spiciness. It arrived promptly, and the owner explained the side dishes, but I couldn't remember all four of them (laughs). There were onion, carrot, cucumber, and burdock. Kinpira and pickles, served in a gravy boat with fukujin pickles, and a bone-in tea cup. The curry sauce was rich and delicious with a mild spiciness at medium level. Even the spicy version should be manageable. The chicken leg was deboned and sautéed, tender and tasty, not quite "tender" but still delicious! The soft-boiled egg in a Japanese-style broth was also delicious! Overall, it was a satisfying and unique taste experience. The four side dishes made it a bit challenging to eat though... it would be easier if they were served separately. It's a bit pricey for curry (the most expensive of the three options), but the satisfaction justifies the cost. I'm determined to try all three curry types! Next time, I'll go for the "Quirky Lamb" curry!

On a certain weekday, I visited a curry restaurant in Hiragishi 2-jo, Toyohira-ku for lunch. There is no parking lot, which is always a drawback. The interior of the restaurant, which has changed several times in the past, consists of an L-shaped counter and table seats. The background music playing is stylish piano jazz. From the menu that day, I chose the "Tender Chicken Curry (1280 yen)" with a medium spiciness level, and also decided to try the "Pakistan Curry Topping (300 yen)" that caught my eye. Taking a bite... Wow, the curry has a spiced curry appearance and when I tasted it... Oh, it's definitely a curry with a gentle flavor. It's hard to explain, but it doesn't try too hard to be authentic, yet it has a sophisticated taste that is not homely. The spices are just right, and the medium spiciness level is not very spicy. The Pakistan topping is quite voluminous, with a high level of simmered flavor, although I personally found it slightly salty. The chicken leg with red pepper on top was cooked separately, so the meat flavor remained strong and had a good texture. The pumpkin simmered dish, which they are proud of, had a great balance of sweetness. The broccoli and burdock sesame dressing had a strong flavor, the carrot white dressing highlighted the sweetness of the carrots, the pickled onions had a refreshing sweet and sour taste, and the homemade mixed pickles clearly contained various types of vegetables. The rice had distinct grains. Overall, I enjoyed a gentle curry as the restaurant's name suggests. I hope the owner's feelings are conveyed to the customers as well. Thank you for the meal.

I had beef curry with cheese topping! It was delicious! The smell of cheese was amazing. They also have kids curry, which is a good deal for kids who eat a lot. (My child didn't finish it, sorry!) The raised seating area was cold, so I hope they improve that. They have high chairs for kids, as well as picture books. It seems like Hiraoka is becoming a competitive curry area!

Currently in the midst of a strict diet, limiting my daily calorie intake to under 1,000 calories. I visited a new curry restaurant called "やさしいカレー" which opened on February 22, 2023. The restaurant is located between Hiraishi Station and Gakuenmae Station, in a residential area off Hiraishi-dori near the Toyohira River. The entrance to the restaurant is a few steps down from the street, and the staff warmly welcomed me inside. I arrived around 11:30 AM for lunch, and the restaurant was empty. The menu included three types of curry: "ほろほろ (chicken) @1,280, ぷるぷる (beef tendons) @1,080, くせくせ (lamb) @1,180" with various toppings such as flavored egg, grilled cheese, colorful vegetables, natto, and bacon. I ordered the くせくせ curry with an extra spicy level. The curry arrived in about 7 minutes, with chunks of tender lamb meat in the curry sauce. The dish was served with carrots, asparagus, and pumpkin on the side, along with a container of spices and homemade pickles. The curry had a tangy flavor, which I found a bit unusual, but it was still enjoyable. The spiciness was not too strong, and I used all the additional spices provided. Overall, the curry was not too oily or heavy, and I did not experience any heartburn after eating. The pickles were delicious, with a good balance of sweetness and crunchiness. The friendly waitress recommended them, and I was impressed by her taste. I plan to try making pickles with eggplant in the future. I look forward to seeing more reviews of this restaurant as it is only my second review. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on 20th February 2023. Even though the sign says "Grand Opening 2/22," they are already open for business! This place used to be where Zangi Honpo was located before. They used to serve Zangi and ramen, but this location is not facing the main street and has no parking, so it may not be ideal for regular businesses. Now, a curry restaurant has opened here! I hope they do well. I tried the Beef "Purupuru" curry for 1,080 yen. I don't like chicken or lamb, so I opted for beef. The curry sauce was not too sweet or too spicy, just the right balance. The colorful vegetables were delicious, especially the sliced carrots. The asparagus was a bit strong in flavor but still tasty. The pumpkin was forgettable. Oh, I almost forgot about the raisins! The cheese topping was nicely grilled and added a delightful aroma to the curry. And the Fukujinzuke was incredibly delicious! The basic sweet and salty flavor was excellent, and the shiso seeds added a nice touch. The slight spiciness might be from the green chili peppers, but I forgot to ask, so I'm guessing. I wanted to order the gentle coffee for 400 yen, but it was sold out! Can you believe coffee being sold out? So, I ended up getting the Rabby for 450 yen, which is apparently a superior version of lassi. It was indeed sweeter and milder in taste, with a great aftertaste. It was a drink that you just keep sipping on. It's like Totoro turning into Totoron! Did you know Totoron is superior to Totoro? That's why Satsuki and Mei can still be friends with adults. Just kidding! If I had to ask for something more, I would say to increase the portion of rice and curry. But I'm not that bold to ask for it. Remember to try the Rabby!

On August 13, 2023 (Sunday), I tried the soup curry at the company cafeteria because they had a special event. It was unique with daikon in it, which was good. The meat was tender and delicious. The taste of the soup curry was like the soup curry mix you can buy at the supermarket. It was not thick, more on the watery side.
