"I want to enjoy cafes too, even as an old man!" Shiojiro, who usually only eats ramen, suddenly awakens to cafe culture. In this 11th installment, we will report on cafes in Sapporo and its vicinity from an old man's perspective. Today's review is about "Café Sapporo Coffee Kan Hiragishi Branch" in Hiragishi, Sapporo.
=================================
There are various types of cafes, but my favorite is definitely the old folk house cafes. Among them, cafes housed in old stone warehouses made of Sapporo soft stone are the most comfortable and relaxing. Drinking coffee while thinking about the lives of people in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras has a special taste. The cafe I visited this time is "Sapporo Coffee Kan" in Hiragishi. I stumbled upon it by chance, and I was surprised to find such a wonderful shop in Hiragishi. That's why I can't stop exploring Sapporo (^^;;).
● Location
2-6 Hiragishi 2-jo, Toyohira-ku, Sapporo. Head towards Makomanai on Hiragishi-dori (Hiragishi Street), turn right at the intersection of [Hiragishi 3-7], and the shop will suddenly appear on your right. Although I often pass by Hiragishi-dori, I didn't know there was a shop in such a place.
● Parking
There are 6 parking spaces available in front of the store.
● Business Hours
9:00 - 22:00
● Closed
No regular holidays
● Shop Information
The stone warehouse in Sapporo soft stone where the store is located was built jointly by the people of the Hiragishi apple farmers in 1938. The first floor was used as a shared apple sorting place, and the second floor was used as a meeting place. After the war, the apple orchards in this area were gradually converted into residential areas, and around 1959, the shared sorting place had fulfilled its role. After that, the stone warehouse was used as a rental facility and was later renovated into a cafe named "Sawada Coffee Shop" in 1992. Since 2011, it has been used as the current "Sapporo Coffee Kan". The building now serves as a reminder of the history of Hiragishi apples, with 85 years of history.
● Cafe Genre
Old folk house, stone warehouse, retro style
● Atmosphere
The interior of the store, with Sapporo soft stone exposed, evokes the old days of Hiragishi. The surface of the Sapporo soft stone is carved with diagonally cut lines in a regular pattern, which is beautiful. The second floor has a high ceiling, creating a spacious and calming atmosphere.
● Customer Base
All generations are welcome, but it gives an impression of being particularly suitable for adults to relax. The age group was relatively older during my visit.
● Menu
[Drinks] Coffee, black tea, milk, lemonade, cocoa, 100% fruit juice, etc. * Coffee refills are available for 275 yen.
[Food/Desserts] Toast, sandwiches, beef stew, cakes, waffles, etc. There are also morning set menus.
● Order
Morning Coffee - 430 yen. You can enjoy coffee from various countries on a rotating basis.
● Hospitality
★★★☆☆ It's good in general.
● Hidden Gem Level
★★★☆☆ It may be well-known to locals. It's surprising to find such a shop so close to Hiragishi-dori.
● Old Man's Comfort Level
★★★★☆ The warmth of Sapporo soft stone and wood creates a comfortable environment for a pleasant coffee time. The atmosphere is good, and the prices are reasonable. This cafe meets the criteria for a relaxing place for old men.
● Overall Evaluation
This shop not only serves as a cafe but also plays a role in conveying the history of Hiragishi as an apple-producing area. It is a representative cafe that utilizes a stone warehouse made of Sapporo soft stone, allowing anyone to easily enjoy the old-fashioned space. I think I've found a good place to take a breather. Thank you for the meal♪ (Visited on August 16, 2022) (Posted on February 7, 2023)
