This day was Saturday. It was around noon when I thought I wouldn't be able to get in, but for some reason, I was able to get in without waiting. It's surprising how things can turn out sometimes. I parked my car in the second parking lot. Usually, it's also full and you can't park there, so it must have been unusually empty today. It's definitely crowded today. The menu prices haven't changed since the last time I visited. I recently found out that here, you can get extra rice for free. I've been here many times and always thought the rice portion was small. If I had known, I would have asked for an extra serving earlier. Chidori-age set meal for 1045 yen. The one and only Chidori-age that can be eaten in the world. It's truly worth coming here just for this unique Chidori-age. It's not like fried chicken or tempura, it's Chidori-age. I love it. Bone-in meat in drumstick size. I bite into this. I feel like I could eat at least 20 of these. I might get heartburn halfway through because I'm getting old, but 3 or 4 pieces won't faze me. This itself doesn't have much flavor. Sesame salt. I eat this with sesame salt sprinkled on top. It's really delicious. Even sprinkled on rice, it tastes great. This time, I also asked for an extra serving of sesame salt with the rice. They give it to you if you ask, I didn't know that. Nameko miso soup. I assume extra miso soup would be charged, but I didn't ask. Nevertheless, it was really tasty. Chidori-age. If it were within walking distance from my home, I would definitely come here once a week. But maybe it's also because I only eat it occasionally that it tastes so good. Thank you for the meal. ⇒ ☆Asahikawa, if you come, you have to eat this☆

I'm a big fan of this place~(#^.^#)(#^.^#) I feel like going there regularly, you know~ Today, I tried their hot pot for the first time♪ It was 1850 yen per person x2 and I also ordered the tempura a la carte. The chicken was really fresh and had a nice firm but tender texture, with no hint of any unpleasant taste. Even the vegetables in the hot pot were fresh, just like in summer! I love this place so much! It was delicious again this time♪ Thank you for the meal☆

My friend recommended this place saying it's delicious, so I decided to give it a try. However, the air conditioning wasn't working properly, it felt like it was broken. As for the food, I like fried chicken, and it was tasty, but I got tired of it towards the end. I'm sorry.

Hokkaido Wanderlust #23: A well-known chicken restaurant in Asahikawa City, established in 1922, featured in the Michelin Guide. Last night, I, alone, was unable to eat the popular "Shinko-yaki" dish due to fully booked reservations. So, I went the next morning after having ramen for breakfast. The restaurant is located on the way to Asahikawa Zoo, with two entrances - a high-class entrance and a common entrance, making it easy for anyone to enter. Of course, I went through the common entrance. Asahikawa's soul food, "Shinko-yaki," features tender young chicken grilled with a secret sauce. While it's available as a single item, there is no set meal, but I heard from Google Maps reviews that you can substitute "Chidori-age" for "Shinko-yaki" at the price of the "Chidori-age" set meal (which is cheaper, making it a good deal). - Shinko-yaki set meal: ¥1045. The bone-in chicken thigh meat, resembling Xmas chicken, was incredibly delicious. The skillful grilling of the chicken and the secret sauce, different from yakitori sauce, with a subtly sweet and aged soy sauce flavor, was so delicious that I wanted to scoop it up with rice. The rice was also cooked perfectly, so tasty that I wanted seconds. "Thank you for the meal." After this, I went to Kyowa Onsen. Bathing fee: ¥600.

On July 27, 2023 (Thursday), #Lunch #SpecialLunch Today, I tried this highly recommended place by my companion (^^) I usually eat near Asahikawa Station, but I didn't know there was such a delicious restaurant in Higashi-Asahikawa. Established in 1922, this long-standing chicken restaurant was selected for the Hokkaido Michelin in 2017. Upon visiting at 11:30 on a weekday, the restaurant was about half full, but by the time we left, it was completely packed. The restaurant has a calm and traditional atmosphere with a counter and a raised seating area, where the sound of a koto instrument plays in the background. There is also a tatami room at the back. Orders are taken verbally, and the popular dishes include the "Chidori-age set meal" (1045 yen) and a limited 20 meal set (1210 yen). The food arrived in about 15 minutes. The four large pieces of "fried chicken" were more like bone-in chicken with a light and slightly soft coating, similar to a chicken fritter. The sesame salt provided on the side (with free refills) pairs well with the juicy chicken. The chicken breast may feel slightly dry without the salt. The side dishes such as the mushroom soup, rice, and pickles were all delicious, showcasing the quality of the restaurant. The set meal also includes coffee and sesame pudding, making it a great value. Overall, it was a satisfying lunch experience with delicious soul food and a good atmosphere. The oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) and shin-koyaki (grilled chicken) also looked appetizing. However, the location may make it challenging for a return visit.

Today is Monday! When I looked at this website, it said "Starting from February 27th, we will be closed every Monday and Tuesday for a while 2023/2/26", so I gave up and was thinking of going to a different restaurant. However, when I passed by the restaurant, it was open. So, I decided to go in and ordered the Chidori-age set meal. The karaage had a lot of batter and it was a bit tough to eat just the batter. I should have ordered a variety of dishes and shared them instead.

As a Hokkaido native, I had never tried Shinshi-yaki, a soul food from Asahikawa. Asahikawa is not a place I often visit, except for the zoo. So this time, I decided to try the soul food while visiting Asahiyama Zoo after a few years. Wow! This is delicious! Crispy chicken skin, juicy and tender chicken meat. Is this Shinshi-yaki? I want to go eat it again soon! My husband ordered the Chidori-age set meal, which was also delicious! Eating the fried chicken with salt was a great experience. We shared the meals. However, I was too hungry, so I felt a bit unsatisfied. We visited the restaurant around 2 pm on a Saturday, and there were no other customers before us, only one group came after us. We were able to eat leisurely without waiting.

Long time no see, long time no see♪ I never expected to be able to go to Onogi on this day...(#^.^#)(#^.^#) We ordered two Chidori Age set meals (with regular miso soup changed to motsu miso soup) and shared one Atarimeyaki between the two of us~ And here it is! The batter is unusually light, crispy, and delicious! I love it so much (I won't be able to eat a certain fried chicken chain anymore!) It's already delicious as it is, but when you sprinkle this mysterious powder on it, it becomes dangerously delicious! The chicken breast part is unbelievably tender and juicy! And the surprise this time was the motsu miso soup, which I tried for the first time, and it was incredibly delicious! It's supposed to be miso-flavored, but the miso flavor doesn't overpower, and the delicious chicken broth takes the forefront, refreshing, flavorful, and so tasty that I want to keep drinking it forever♪ Even Panda, who doesn't like motsu, found it to be a wonderful soup, so I highly recommend changing it from miso soup! Ahhh, it was so delicious! I want to go there more often!! Thank you for the meal!! ===========

On February 25, 2023, my wife, small child, and I revisited our favorite Yoroigyu Onsen for a family trip. We chose the Tohoku route for our journey, so we decided to have an early lunch in the Asahikawa area. I guided my wife and small child to Onoki-san, a chicken specialty restaurant and well-established renowned shop that I really wanted to introduce them to in Asahikawa. Even though my wife had eaten chicken the day before, she was completely satisfied after our meal here. I ordered the Chidori-age set meal (1,045 yen) with my favorite motsu salad version. My wife had the oyakodon (660 yen) and the Asahikawa specialty dish, Nishiko-yaki (770 yen), which she had been wanting to try for a while. Small child had the soup simmered dish (605 yen) with rice. My wife and small child were impressed by the dignified atmosphere of the restaurant. We shared the Chidori-age dish, enjoying the crispy coating and juicy bone-in chicken. Small child's soup simmered dish was just as good as the mizutaki we had in Hakata. My wife was surprised by the affordability and deliciousness of the oyakodon. But what really blew them away was the Nishiko-yaki. Both my wife and small child tried it for the first time and were amazed by its deliciousness. They were both in awe of the crispy skin, juicy and rich chicken. By the time we left, the restaurant was almost full, and my wife and small child were extremely satisfied. We even took some fried tempura flakes to go and were warmly bid farewell by the kind staff. My wife and small child were very pleased, and we all agreed to come back when we visit Asahikawa again after April!

A specialty restaurant in Higashi-Asahikawa, Asahikawa City, known for its bird dishes. I visited for lunch about five years ago. When it was featured in the Michelin Guide, I wondered what "Chidoriage" would taste like, so I came once before. I arrived a little early and admired the quaint garden before entering through the curtain. I ordered the "Chidoriage Teishoku" (1,045 yen) and the famous "Motsu Salad" (330 yen). When I placed my order, a pot of tea was brought over and poured for me. They even left the pot of tea at the table. The staff were all very friendly. The "Motsu Salad" was served first... It was made with boiled chicken intestines, soft and very delicious. It was a salad mixed with cucumber and thinly sliced onions in mayonnaise. Then, about 5-6 minutes later, the set meal arrived. The "Chidoriage Teishoku" consisted of large pieces of fried bone-in chicken, with both thigh and breast meat. The batter was crispy and had a nice texture. The Chidoriage itself wasn't very seasoned, so you had to dip it in the provided salt. When I asked what it was, the answer was simply, "This is salt." The salt had a creamy color, and I wonder what was mixed in it – perhaps a secret recipe? Anyway, it was very delicious with the salt. The rice and miso soup were also quite tasty. The miso soup had enoki mushrooms, tofu, and green onions. It's a taste that has been beloved for years, and I can see why Chidoriage is so popular!

I visited the restaurant on a regular afternoon around 1 pm. The counter seats were full, so I was seated at a raised seating area. My favorite limited 20-serving "special lunch" was sold out, so I ordered the E course (tempura, miso soup, rice) for ¥1,375. The tempura was delicious and freshly fried, but the portion was a bit too much for a side dish with rice, and I ended up getting a bit tired of it towards the end.

On a sunny day, I took a late summer vacation and visited a restaurant in Asahikawa that I had always wanted to go to. It's a chicken dish restaurant called Onogiya, and as a lover of chicken and fried chicken, I absolutely had to visit. I had been wanting to go for a while, but never found the right timing, so it had been a few years... In the meantime, I saw Da-iCE's Yudai and Taiki visit this restaurant on the TV show "Onigiri Atatamemasu ka" and they praised it so much! That made me even more eager to go and try it for myself. Finally, my wish came true and I visited the restaurant.
I ordered the "Chidori-age set meal" which is a must-try dish at this restaurant. It comes with miso soup and pickles, a classic set meal! The miso soup had mushrooms, tofu, and green onions, and the pickles were cabbage pickles, a great combination. The main dish, Chidori-age, consisted of large bone-in fried chicken pieces with a generous portion. The crispy coating was fragrant and delicious, and the meat inside was juicy and tender. It was so delicious that I couldn't help but eat in silence. I even savored the bone marrow... haha. This dish goes well with rice, but it would also be great with beer. The special sesame salt seasoning added an extra flavor that enhanced the dish even more.
I also ordered the "Motsu salad" as an additional dish, as I noticed many regular customers ordering it. As a fan of motsu (offal), I couldn't resist. The mild mayonnaise dressing with motsu and vegetables was delicious! I felt like I wanted to eat this in a big bowl. To finish the meal, they served coffee and sesame pudding. The sesame flavor was strong! It was a perfect ending to a satisfying meal.
Onogiya has a long history, starting in the Meiji era with a unique feed formula for raising chickens, and opening the restaurant in 1922. It's definitely a place for chicken lovers and those who appreciate good chicken dishes. The fact that there were many regular customers and fans who came from far away to visit this restaurant is a testament to its popularity.

A specialty chicken dish restaurant in Asahikawa. I recommend the "Sencho Age" which is a type of fried chicken. I also ordered the "Shinago Yaki" because it looked delicious. The Sencho Age had a crispy coating like a snack, different from regular fried chicken. The Shinago Yaki was juicy and tasty. The private room in the tatami area was spacious and the portions were generous and reasonably priced!

While waiting for the bus to Asahiyama Zoo on the 4th day of the Tomamu-Furano-Biei-Asahikawa trip, I stumbled upon a restaurant with high ratings. It was almost noon and there was no wait. The interior was Japanese-style and cozy, with tatami seating in the back. The menu had a limited selection of 20 special lunches (1210 yen) and oyakodon (660 yen), which was quite affordable. The wait time was short, around 10 minutes. The special lunch was extravagant, with the signature chidori age (similar to chicken tempura), torimeshi, miso soup, pickles, and chawanmushi. The chidori age had a crispy batter with vegetables sandwiched inside, and it was lightly seasoned with salt. The torimeshi had a delicious aroma, but the sauce was slightly lacking in sweetness. The oyakodon, being cheap, had a small amount of chicken - about 6 small pieces. It was mostly a vegetable and egg bowl, with a lightly flavored broth that was a bit lacking in depth. Overall, it was a good value for money and quick service, but the taste did not completely match the charming appearance.

I stopped by for lunch after visiting Asahiyama Zoo. The half grilled chicken was incredibly delicious. I didn't think the price was too high, so I thought it was a good deal. However, the portion was very large, so women might not be able to finish it. I went with my husband, and he ate a lot, so we were able to finish it.

When I visited the "Asahikawa Hyomura Memorial Hall," I searched on "Tabelog" for nearby restaurants. This restaurant popped up. I visited on a weekday around 11:40 am (during Golden Week). The restaurant is located along Route 140 in Higashi-Asahikawa. The building looks a bit old-fashioned with a white noren hanging at the entrance, giving off a traditional vibe. There is a parking lot for about 18 cars on the east side of the building. Inside, there are cozy table seats and a counter with friendly female staff. When I visited, there were about 5-6 other groups of customers, including elderly families, middle-aged couples, and solo female diners. This restaurant specializes in chicken dishes, offering a variety of set meals, rice bowls, side dishes, and course meals at reasonable prices. I ordered the "Chidori-age Set Meal" x2, "Motsu Salad," and "Wakadori-yaki," which were all delicious. The Chidori-age set meal consisted of large, crispy fried chicken pieces with salt, pickles, miso soup with tofu, Nameko mushrooms, and rice. The fried chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the crispy coating had a nice sesame oil aroma. The Motsu Salad was a refreshing mix of boiled chicken offal and marinated onions in mayonnaise. The Wakadori-yaki, grilled young chicken thigh, had a nice char and juicy meat with a savory miso flavor. I especially enjoyed the fried chicken and grilled chicken dishes. I would love to pair them with some drinks in the future.

I visited Tori Ryori Onogi Onigiri Atatamemasuka near Asahiyama Zoo because Daioh Yoh's reaction was good. The Chidoriage and soup simmering, which are like fried chicken, were very delicious!! The interior of the restaurant was like a traditional Japanese inn, and the garden was beautiful. I would love to visit again!

I visited at 11:30 on a regular day, but the "special lunch" I was looking for was already sold out. I ended up ordering the D course (appetizer, fried chicken, and rice porridge). The appetizer, freshly fried large pieces of Zangi, and rich rice porridge set came with a dessert after the meal. The cost performance is good, but in the end, I got tired of the taste, so I still recommend the "special lunch".

It seems like it's been about a year and a half since the last visit. It's been a while, hasn't it? The usual three-item set. I don't drink it, but I really like the beef salad that comes as an appetizer, mixed with sliced onions and dressed in mayo. Sometimes I crave the taste. I used to think I wanted more sesame salt, but lately this amount seems just right. However, on this particular weekday, there were customers who didn't seem to be working, including us, and there were quite a few takeout orders for fried chicken. Customers kept coming in, and by around noon, the lunch set (chicken and vegetable tempura) was already sold out. It's still a popular restaurant. So, I lifted my spirits with the beef salad, then moved on to the chicken rice bowl with tender chicken breast or thigh (I've eaten it many times, but I'm not sure). The fluffy texture and sweet and salty sauce are the charms of the dish. Then, the crispy coating and juicy chicken of the fried chicken arrive shortly after, and I just can't help but devour it. (↓ By the way, the fried chicken looks unusually small because it's placed on top of the chicken rice bowl. My bad.) It's a completely different type of chicken dish from the modern zangi, and it's not at all like karaage, tori katsu, or fried chicken. Alternating between the light chicken of the rice bowl and the crispy coating of the fried chicken creates a satisfying experience that's all contained within each bite. When I was a child, it was routine to bring it home after visiting the zoo and eating it at home, so the coating was always soft. I haven't had takeout in a while, so I would like to indulge in that nostalgic feeling of the soft coating.

I visited the restaurant during lunchtime (11:50), where I sat at a counter seat with infection prevention barriers installed. I ordered the "Special Lunch" limited to 20 servings on weekdays for ¥1,210. It included three chicken skewers, a small chicken rice bowl, chawanmushi, miso soup, pickles, dessert, and coffee. The chicken skewers seasoned with salt were crispy and very delicious.
