My husband returned from a business trip this spring and found this place on his new commute route. He loves layered foods like mille-feuille, lasagna, and gratin. But his favorite is Baumkuchen. He couldn't resist checking out this place. The next day, he came back with a fancy paper bag and an even fancier box containing the Baumkuchen. It was wrapped in thin paper, looking very high-end. It must be expensive, I thought. And it was. Made with rice flour, it's gluten-free and supposedly good for the body. The taste was unique, with sake flavor. Sake lees collaborating with rice, just like his favorite layered structures. Not made with wheat flour, so gluten-free and potentially good for the body, but the carbs are high! I took a bite and it was indeed sake lees flavor, but what stood out was the dryness. It sucked up all the moisture in my mouth. I always thought Baumkuchen was supposed to be moist, but maybe not this one. It was so dry that I couldn't even savor the sake lees flavor. It was clear that this Baumkuchen was not to our liking. My husband's disappointed face said it all.

Located in the area near Chuo Ward Office, this baumkuchen specialty store uses 100% Hokkaido rice flour to create their soft and hard baumkuchen cakes. The shop is known for its sweet aroma, and they aim to make rice more familiar to customers by offering gluten-free rice flour baumkuchen. They also pay attention to using Hokkaido-produced rice, sugar, and dairy products, milling the rice themselves in-store for a unique moist texture. In addition to baumkuchen, they also sell rusk and rice flour bread, making them great gifts. I have visited the store before and found the baumkuchen to be delicious. On this particular visit, I tried both the soft and hard baumkuchen, enjoying the rich flavors of each. The soft baumkuchen was moist and tender, while the hard baumkuchen had a crunchy exterior and a layered texture. Both were delightful, making them perfect for gifts. The store also offers a free coffee service for purchases over 1000 yen. Overall, it was a satisfying experience, and I recommend trying their baumkuchen when you visit.

This shop is located near the Chuo Ward Office, next to the famous soup curry restaurant "Lamai", and it is a shop that sells baumkuchen made with rice flour. There is a coin laundry in the same building, and it is connected inside. On this day, I stayed at the nearby Hotel L'Affinage and stopped by Lamai for dinner, so I decided to try the Baamkuhen Soft Rusks with lactic acid bacteria (550 yen) that I had been curious about. It was delicious. The soft rusk was just right, not too hard, and I might prefer it over regular baumkuchen. I also found mini-sized langue de chat cookies this time, so I might try them next time. Thank you for the meal.

This shop is located near the Chuo Ward Office, next to the famous soup curry restaurant "Lamai". There is a coin laundry in the same building, connected to the shop. I stayed at the nearby Hotel La'gent and decided to have dinner at Lamai. I was curious about the baked sweets I saw briefly last time, and I wonder if this is it? I bought a Cheese Baum (350 yen), which is a round Baumkuchen with cream cheese in the center. I purchased one and enjoyed it at the hotel. It was delicious. Also, I noticed this time that if you purchase over 1000 yen, you can get a free coffee. But for those who just want to have coffee with one item or want to pass the time while waiting at the adjacent coin laundry, it might be nice to also sell coffee for around 100-200 yen regardless of the purchase amount. I will visit again if I have the chance. Next time, I might try the Baumkuchen rusk. Thank you for the meal.

I was attracted by the cute appearance and decided to go in. It was a shop that sells rice flour baumkuchen, which is gluten-free and seems to be gentle on the body. There were various flavors of baumkuchen lined up, but I was full so I took out the 7cheese in baum from the showcase. I couldn't wait for my partner and ended up eating it in the car, so the photo looks lonely. The cheese inside melts smoothly and it's interesting. Next time, I want to try buying various flavors.

When passing by the store, I was intrigued by the sweet smell and the rotating baumkuchen. I received one as a Mother's Day gift from my daughter ♡ The slightly firm baumkuchen was delicious. Next time, I definitely want to go to the store and try the soft one (´▽`)

Keio Department Store Shinjuku Store Hokkaido Fair from March 31st to April 13th. They have Baumkuchen made from rice flour in various flavors. I couldn't decide, so I bought an assortment and two types of rusk. It's fun to choose. The assortment is great for office snacks. They have varieties made from different rice varieties, burdock sake lees, and lactic acid bacteria, as well as some rare ones. They have a healthy feel to them. The rusk is 500 yen per bag and seems handy as a souvenir. The cute foxes, squirrels, and owls made me stop and buy them. Both the Baumkuchen and rusk are delicious and gluten-free, so you can enjoy them without worry. Highly recommended as a new souvenir from Hokkaido.

Baumkuchen is one of my favorite sweets! I also love milk crepes, so I guess I'm drawn to layered desserts. This Baumkuchen caught my eye at an event in Ebetsu Tsutaya, and I was excited to find out there's a store just a 10-minute drive from my house. This Baumkuchen is made with rice flour instead of wheat flour, making it gluten-free and safe for those with wheat allergies. I bought a cheese tart-like Baumkuchen, a soft Baum made with Kirara rice for 220 yen, and a hard Baum made with Kirara rice and burdock for 250 yen. They are a bit pricey for their size, but all three were delicious! The cheese one was creamy inside with a hard outer layer, the plain one was simple yet tasty, and the burdock one was surprisingly not too burdock-y. It might make a great gift for health-conscious homes. Thank you for the meal!

This shop is located near the Chuo Ward Office, next to the famous soup curry restaurant "Lamai". There is a coin laundry in the same building that seems to be connected, so I wonder if they are under the same management. Inside the shop, there is a small eat-in space with bench seating, and they also have a coffee machine. Perhaps they are targeting customers waiting for their laundry at the coin laundry to come and use their shop. On this day, I stayed at the nearby Hotel La'gent and stopped by Lamai for dinner, so I decided to try this shop as well. Rice Flour Baumkuchen: - Apple (220 yen) - Kokki Sakekasu (240 yen) I bought these thinly sliced and individually packaged baumkuchen to have as a snack at the hotel. They were delicious, but I couldn't quite tell the difference from regular wheat flour baumkuchen, so I found them a bit pricey. However, I think it's great that there are rice flour baumkuchen available for those with allergies to wheat flour. I hope this shop continues to thrive. If I have the chance, I would like to try their baumkuchen rusk (priced around 450 yen) and maybe their apple pie if they have it. Thank you for the meal.

At the Daimaru Sapporo store, there was a pop-up shop selling Baumkuchen made from rice flour. I decided to order a variety set to enjoy different flavors. The set included seven different flavors: Soft Baum 001 Kirara Rice Plain, Soft Baum 005 Kirara Rice Apple, Soft Baum 039 Kirara Rice Lactic Acid Bacteria, Soft Baum 096 Sprouting Cherry Purple, Hard Baum 801 Kirara Rice Plain, Hard Baum 851 Kirara Rice Burdock, and Premium Baum 0920 Kunimare Sake Lees. The set cost 1600 yen and was a bit more expensive compared to buying a roll for 1300 yen, but it was worth it. Each flavor had a unique taste, with the first digit of the number indicating soft (0) or hard (8), and the premium Baum having a four-digit number. We shared the set and here are some reviews of the flavors we tried: - Hard Baum 801 Kirara Rice Plain: A hard type Baumkuchen with a rough outer texture, reminiscent of a tree bark. It had a fresh and chewy texture, different from a cookie, and the taste was delicious. - Soft Baum 039 Kirara Rice Lactic Acid Bacteria: As the name suggests, this flavor had a slight yogurt-like taste. It had a soft and crumbly texture, with a hint of sweetness and yogurt acidity, making it easy to eat and distinct from regular Baumkuchen. I couldn't really tell the difference between rice flour and wheat flour, but they were both delicious. I will review the other flavors after trying them.

I had been curious about a dessert shop for a while, and when I finally visited, it turned out to be a baumkuchen store that opened in March. I almost walked into the neighboring laundromat by mistake, but you can pass through, so it's all good (laughs). When I asked the staff for recommendations, they suggested the plain baumkuchen. I also tried the 7cheese baum that looked like a tart. The plain baumkuchen was super soft and sweet, really delicious. The 7cheese baum had a creamy cheese filling that was gooey and stretchy, which was a unique and tasty combination of cookie and baumkuchen. This is definitely going on my souvenir list from Sapporo!

On a certain weekday, I stopped by a shop located at Minami 4-jo Nishi 10-chome in Chuo Ward while on my way home. This shop sells interesting Baumkuchen cakes. There seems to be a small parking lot in front of the shop. The interior of the building is well-organized and even has a somewhat luxurious feel to it. You can see various Baumkuchen cakes, cheese tarts, and quiches for takeout or home consumption. There was also a drink machine in a corner, but I wondered where you would drink the beverages. On this day, I decided to try something different from the menu and ended up buying the "Soft Cut Baum Sakura Murasaki (200 yen)." It had a dark color and was sweet and moist, although I personally found it a bit too sweet. It was still a delicious Baumkuchen. I also bought the "Soft Cut Baum Kunimare (220 yen)," which had a unique sake flavor that lingered in the aftertaste. Lastly, I tried the "Seasonal Vegetable Quiche (280 yen)," which had a soft tart base with a sweet flavor. It was topped with white sauce, spinach, mushrooms, cabbage, and other vegetables, creating a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness. As I looked around the shop, I couldn't help but feel that it was strangely high-end, almost like a department store. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this shop that I was curious about because I passed by it recently. I tried the 7 Cheese Baum (320 yen) which has 7 types of cheese in the middle of a small hard baum. When lightly heated, the cheese becomes gooey and delicious. However, the baum itself was more crumbly than expected, making it difficult to eat with the crumbly bits falling off. I don't think I will be a repeat customer. I also tried the No.001 (Soft Baum Plain) (Slice: 200 yen) made with rice flour, but it was more moist than I anticipated. It was quite sweet with a strong eggy flavor which I enjoyed. Lastly, I tried the No.851 (Hard Baum Burdock) (Slice: 210 yen) because I like burdock, but there was no burdock flavor at all, which was disappointing. Overall, I preferred the Soft Baum Plain, and although slices are pricier, buying a whole cake is around 1000 yen. This shop seems like a good place for gift purchases in the future.

I get excited by the pastel appearance! This shop sells baumkuchen made with rice flour and is attached to a coin laundry. The interior is cute like a cosmetics shop! There were various types available, and since they were also sold individually, I bought several. However, they were very small... I ended up eating three in one go. There were plain, lactic acid bacteria, and burdock flavors. I particularly liked the lactic acid bacteria one. The soft acidity was a subtle accent that didn't interfere with the base and was delicious. But they were small... It seems like buying a whole one would be a better deal. I'm sure I could finish it. My favorite is the cheese baum. They use seven types of cheese in it. There were also pouches and other goods for sale, but there were also rice products. They are a bit expensive for personal use, but they would make a good gluten-free gift. Thank you for the meal!

The day before, my husband, who loves Baumkuchen, brought two plain Baumkuchen cakes from the "ring ring" bakery because he wanted to compare them. I was happy because I had been interested in this shop for a while. They use rice flour, making it gluten-free, and the packaging design is stylish, making it a great gift. Here is what we ate: - No.001 Soft Baum: The texture of the dough was fine and moist. It had a fluffy buttery aroma with a gentle sweetness of sugar, a classic Baumkuchen. - No.801 Hard Baum: The dough was firmer than the soft Baum, with a strong chewiness from the rice flour. I preferred this one because of the texture. According to my husband, the hard one tastes better but is quite expensive (I didn't ask for the price, so I don't know). Personally, I'm curious about the cheese Baumkuchen and the rusk, so I might go buy them if I get the chance. Thank you for the meal!

Located on the west side of Susukino, along National Route 36, a Baumkuchen shop opened up on my commute route (in the former Lawson store location). When it first opened, there were long lines and they would often sell out early, but recently it seems to have calmed down so I decided to stop by. The bright and clean interior includes a small seating area. They use rice flour instead of wheat flour for their Baumkuchen, making it suitable for those with wheat allergies. They offer a variety of Baumkuchen, all labeled with numbers instead of names. I purchased a few cut pieces including "001 (Plain)" and "1111 (7 Cheese Baum)." The Baumkuchen, perhaps due to the rice flour, had a slightly different taste that I found a bit lacking, but it felt good for my body. They were all decently tasty, but personally, I enjoyed the 1111 which had a flavor reminiscent of a freshly baked cheese tart. The price for a cut piece of Baumkuchen is around 200 yen each, so it's not too expensive and would be a good choice for those who love Baumkuchen.

On a day off, I went to have lunch with my friend and she suggested visiting a place she was curious about. That place was Kirara 397, which sells baumkuchen made with rice flour. We decided to have lunch first and then go to Kirara 397. We arrived at the shop a little after 11 am, but there was already a line of more than 10 people outside. We waited in line and more people kept joining, so it was quite crowded. However, the flow was not bad as they were limiting the number of people entering at once. Finally, we got inside and bought some baumkuchen. The plain (soft) baumkuchen had a fluffy and light texture with a crispy sugar coating. The hint of alcohol flavor was not overpowering, making it well-balanced. The plain (moist) baumkuchen had a moist texture with a subtle sour smell of lactic acid bacteria. It was not as sour as expected and tasted delicious. The Kokki sake baumkuchen had a slightly dry texture, but when eaten, the flavor of Kokki sake spread. The apple-flavored baumkuchen had a fruity aroma and a slightly dry texture common in fruit-incorporated products. It was not too sweet and easy to eat. The plain (hard) baumkuchen had a chewy texture, indicating the use of more rice flour. Instead of alcohol, almonds were used, providing a sweet and fragrant taste. There were various types available, making it a good choice for souvenirs. Overall, it was a delightful experience.

Before the store even opened, I had gathered information from Instagram, radio, and the like, and as always, I contacted Wu-ta (thank you as always for your help). I love Baumkuchen, especially when it's made with rice flour for a chewy texture. Here's my review: - Soft Baum (Plain, Lactic Acid Bacteria, Kokki): The lactic acid bacteria one was a hit! It was very moist and had a texture similar to my favorite, Jiro's dough, with a slight yogurt-like acidity. The Plain and Kokki flavors were more traditional Baumkuchen, lacking the expected chewiness from the rice flour. Kokki had a distinct alcohol taste, but I wished for more unique characteristics in the base Baumkuchen. - Hard Baum (Plain): The small size was already sold out, and I was looking forward to the Baumkuchen in the shape of a Meriken sack. This one had the most noticeable rice flour taste, with a sticky and chewy texture like Florentine or caramel. It was quite different from what I imagined. Overall, I still prefer the solid sprouts from Nenrin-ya. The store was crowded on a recent holiday, with some items sold out within an hour of opening. Despite that, I'm glad I got to try them. Thank you, Wu-ta!

It was a sudden hospitalization, but I was discharged about a month ago. This time, the hospitalization was supposed to be short-term for about a month, but I was discharged after about 20 days. However, even after discharge, I have been visiting the hospital almost every weekday. I am grateful for the many likes on the review posts during my hospitalization. It was a strong support for my recovery from illness. I have a hospitalization scheduled for the end of the year, but due to the current situation with COVID-19, my appointments have been scheduled for after April. Thank you for your continued support. In March 2021, I visited "Ring Ring", a specialty shop for mochi rice flour baumkuchen. The shop opened on March 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM. I visited for the first time with my usual companion, directly from my usual hospital. The shop is located near the Chuo Fire Department in the Odori area of Sapporo. For the exact location of the shop, please check on Tabelog. It was a visit before 1:00 PM on a weekday. There were about 10 customers in front and many customers behind. Two people entered the shop at a time. Inside, the products were on the left on shelves, and the register was on the right. They had about 7 or 8 types of baumkuchen available in cut or whole form. They also had baum rusk. Since it was my first time, I bought several "cut" pieces. ■ 851 Hard Cut Baum Gobo Weight: Actual measurement 15g (after deducting the weight of the bag) It was chewy with a strong flavor of burdock and a good amount of butter. Price: 210 yen (including tax) ■ Soft Cut Baum 096 Soft Cut Baum Sakuramura Saki Weight: Actual measurement 25g (after deducting the weight of the bag) They used "black rice" from ancient times. 001 Soft Cut Baum Plain Weight: Actual measurement 24g (after deducting the weight of the bag and skewer) 005 Soft Cut Baum Apple Weight: Actual measurement 23g (after deducting the weight of the bag and skewer) 039 Soft Cut Baum Lactic Acid Bacteria Price: 200 yen each (including tax) It was interesting to have both hard and soft baumkuchen. Personally, I liked the "851 Hard Cut Baum Gobo" the best. In addition to the whole, there is also a "stick" type available. I also received a complimentary "red and white mochi" as a commemorative gift. It was a nice surprise. I am curious about the remaining baumkuchen as well. Despite opening during the difficult times of the pandemic, I hope this shop does well. Next time, I might try the remaining cut baum and the "851 Hard Cut Baum Gobo" stick. It was delicious, thank you.
