I finished a big project the other day, so I decided to treat myself to some delicious food here. I called ahead the day before and was told they had availability at 5 PM, so I finished work early on a weekday, took a 1.5-hour train ride from my workplace, and walked about 10 minutes - it was almost like a little trip. I had a light soba lunch around 11 AM to prepare my stomach, so I arrived full of energy and immediately ordered a beer. The exterior of the restaurant had a truly traditional feel, and the name "Jumbo" in katakana was also nice. It seems there are several branches, and the Shinzaki branch is the main one. I ordered a few dishes, and first up was the premium black wagyu tongue. When serving the meat at this restaurant, the staff announce, "Please enjoy after searing one side for a few seconds." It wasn't too formal, more like a casual recommendation. So I dug in. (I think they seared one side for about 20 seconds). I had read in reviews that this tongue dish costs ¥3,800 even though it only comes with 4 slices. I had to taste it for myself, and after searing each side for 20 seconds, the thick slices of wagyu tongue were rare and tender. Delicious. I usually prefer thinner slices of tongue, but this thick cut was incredibly tasty. There are both premium black wagyu tongue and regular tongue on the menu, but you can only order one per table. It's expensive, but I highly recommend the premium tongue. It was truly delicious. Next was the Yabuhara-yaki, thinly sliced sirloin that you dip in beaten raw egg - a guaranteed tasty treat. This restaurant seems to be the originator of this style of eating, and I felt a bit embarrassed as I ate, thinking, "Ah, this is just like that feeling when I ate at that other place." The fat wasn't overwhelming at all, and it went down smoothly. The most delicious were the heart and the loin. Both were more melt-in-your-mouth than anything I had tried before. I could just stick with these two. It's worth coming here for the heart and loin alone. The Tomosankaku was seared for about 4 seconds on each side, but it was more like fatty tuna than meat. Delicious. Finally, the omelette rice to finish. It was a traditional-style omelette rice with chunky tomato-based ketchup and meat. Not your average tasty. I tried various other dishes as well. The restaurant had a clean atmosphere, and the staff were brisk and very good. It's still quite expensive and not easy to visit often, but I would like to come back. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
