JR Sugano Station is a 5-minute walk away, and "Maguroyama" (Shibiyama) opened on July 26, 2023. In recent years, the restaurant has changed several times, and I have visited it frequently. Although there are no business hours listed on Tabelog, a check on Instagram shows that they have irregular hours but are open for lunch on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 am until sold out. They also open sporadically on weekdays. I arrived 20 minutes before opening and there were already 4 people in line. When they opened, I was the 5th person to enter the restaurant. The interior is the same as before, with only 7 counter seats. The menu includes "Maguroyama Donburi @1,800, Large Size @2,400, Maguro Yukke Donburi @2,000, Special Sesame Sauce Donburi @1,800, Tsuketororo Donburi @1,800, 2 Kinds of Small Side Dishes Donburi @1,500, 3 Kinds of Small Side Dishes Donburi @1,900, Seafood Donburi @3,500, Mountain @5,000 (reservation required)," etc. The most popular item seems to be the "Maguroyama Donburi Large @2,500," but I chose the "Maguroyama Donburi @1,800." The kitchen staff, which seemed to be the owner and his wife, immediately started cooking after confirming the orders. It took about 25 minutes to be served, and the tray in front of me contained "Maguroyama Donburi, Miso Soup, Side Dish, Shibazuke Pickles, Dessert, Soy Sauce Dish, Wooden Spoon." The Maguroyama Donburi included seared, lean, and medium fatty tuna pieces, with the cuts uneven but the portion generous. The natural tuna had an elegant acidity and a smooth, tender texture, which was of high quality and delicious. The seared tuna, which was slightly thick and large, paired perfectly with the salt. The rice was subtly vinegared and cooked just right. The side dish was kimpira, the miso soup was a bit on the salty side, and the dessert in a small dish was fruit jelly. The owner goes out to catch tuna or fish for salmon, so when he's away, the restaurant is closed. However, it's bound to become a popular spot with long lines before opening in the near future. If you're interested, check Instagram and consider visiting early. I will revisit with my wife next time. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Visit on 25th August 2023. It seems they opened on 16th July. Where did the casual drinking spots and hamburger joints go? Oh well, it's fine haha. On my way back from the hospital once a month, I noticed the sign had changed, with the word "鮪" catching my eye, so I turned around to check it out. The restaurant had changed. It was closed for the day haha. So, I visited the next day. The interior of the restaurant had an L-shaped counter where about 7 people could sit. The menu included a Maguro-don (tuna rice bowl), limited-time Yukke-don, pickled toro-don, sesame sauce don, and more. Since it was my first visit, I thought about getting the Maguro-don for 1,800 yen, but I opted for the large serving at 2,500 yen instead. I kept asking for more sushi rice as I ate because I just couldn't get enough of the tuna! 🍣

The portion is large enough that it's difficult to eat without transferring it to a separate plate, but the tuna is very delicious! It's the first time I've been so full from eating bluefin tuna, but I was extremely satisfied! For those who love tuna, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. Tuna is the best!!
