July 5-6, 2013. Stay and Breakfast
This hotel is located just a 5-minute walk from JR Goryokaku Station, right at the intersection of Route 2 and Park Line. Nearby, you can find the Hokkaido Shimbun Hokkaido Branch, Hakodate City Chiyoda Elementary School, and Goryokaku Hospital, and it only takes about 10 minutes to walk to Goryokaku Park. Arriving at the hotel around 19:20 after taking the overnight train Hokuto at Hakodate Station, I was given the key card for a single room on the 10th floor. The hotel facilities are quite impressive, with a natural hot spring and a lounge on the 14th floor. For dinner, we went out to a local famous izakaya called "Uomasa," and we were told to meet in the lobby on the first floor shortly after dropping off our luggage in the room. For breakfast at the first-floor "Asaokura Restaurant," I chose grilled salmon, sausage, simmered kelp, scrambled eggs, simmered vegetables, shrimp and shellfish, salad with lettuce, potato salad, egg salad, steamed chicken, as well as ikura bowl, rice, miso soup, seaweed, and coffee. The breakfast buffet was decent, with the highlight being the homemade ikura bowl - the small ikura was delicious. Overall, the hotel has 286 rooms and parking for 124 cars, and it is part of the Route Inn Hotels Group, which has over 230 hotels including Ark Hotel, Hotel Grantierra, and Granvillio Hotel.
