I was finally able to visit the restaurant after a long time since the restrictions were lifted. I was wondering if the owner was doing well. When I peeked in, I was relieved to see that everything was fine. I started with a glass of draft beer and the appetizer was a luxurious dish of cucumber and abalone. For my main dish, I ordered a plate of assorted sushi with yellowtail, tuna, scallop, salmon, squid, shrimp, flying fish roe, and cod roe. The tuna was especially delicious as always. I also added a tuna roll, which was large and tasty, just the way I like it. It was a great visit after a long time, and the owner and his wife seemed to be in good spirits. Thank you for the meal.

Sushi restaurant a little outside of the drinking district in Asahikawa. Run by an elderly couple, it's a cozy place. Ordered cold sake and got Kokushimuso. The appetizer was a sticky mix of scallops and scallops, so-so. The deluxe sushi included white fish, red fish, scallops, abalone, button shrimp, whale bacon, salmon roe, and sea urchin. The white fish seemed to be flounder, thickly sliced and deliciously soft thanks to being marinated in kelp. The red fish was real tuna. The whale bacon was tough and not great for sushi. The sea urchin had a strong chemical smell, although there was a lot of it.

After finishing a job, I stayed in Asahikawa and decided to visit "Kojyu Sushi" for a solo meal. I happened to pass by the restaurant and wondered if the couple who runs it are still doing well. I ordered a set of sashimi, Tekka Maki, and a draft beer. The appetizer arrived, and I was hesitant to try the boiled tuna fin which I found unpleasant before. But surprisingly, it didn't smell bad at all this time. It was delicious. The sashimi set included surf clam, salmon, scallop, shrimp, tuna, and a white fish (maybe flounder). It also had salmon roe and flying fish roe. The scallop was generously cut, and the tuna was as good as always. The Tekka Maki was also excellent. Thank you for the meal.

Recently, our evening club activities have been getting into a routine of always ending with sushi. Today, feeling a bit adventurous, I decided to try something different. I entered a sushi restaurant in Sanroku Street with a historical exterior, called Koji Sushi. The friendly and kind smile of the head chef and maybe his wife greeted me as I walked in. Although I wasn't very hungry, I decided to try their mackerel sushi. I opted for tea instead of alcohol. The fish was average, the rice was gently vinegared, and slightly soft. It was a gentle sushi that was kind to my tired stomach. Thank you for the meal.

On a certain Friday night, there was a gathering at a hotel! The cuisine was mainly Western-style dishes. It was a bit heavy (laughs). After it ended, I walked towards Sanroku Street to have a drink at a sushi restaurant. Although I have my usual sushi restaurant, since the next day was Saturday and I could relax, I decided to look for a new place. I found this restaurant on Nakadori, which may not be as popular as the ones on the main street, but I often passed by it. Inside, the friendly couple who owned the restaurant greeted me. Looking at the sushi case, it seemed like they had a good variety of fish. I ordered a draft beer (500 yen) and said, "I'll have a sashimi platter for around 2,000 yen!" The sashimi platter included scallops, striped jack, bluefin tuna, octopus, and tamago. They seemed to use fresh fish and it was delicious. For my second drink, I asked for a rock shochu "Kuro Maru". I had a nice conversation with the couple, and it was a cozy place for some reason. They have been running the restaurant at this location for many years! Since I was quite full from the hotel gathering, I ordered a "tekkyu maki" as a finishing touch. It was a comforting place to be in.

An acquaintance recommended this restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy with a traditional feel. The friendly wife and the quiet but kind husband create a pleasant vibe. The sushi melts in your mouth, each piece delicious. Overall, we enjoyed very tasty sushi at a good price.

I came across this restaurant in Asahikawa, tucked away in a quiet area, and decided to try it out. It was run by an elderly couple and I ordered a nigiri set and a tekka maki. The tekka maki was supposed to come in three pieces, but they kindly offered to make just one. I also ordered a beer and enjoyed my meal alone. The appetizer was diced tuna simmered in ginger, but I found it a bit too fishy for my taste. The nigiri set included squid, salmon, tuna, mackerel, white fish, scallop, and surf clam. The vinegar on the mackerel was mild. The tekka maki had crispy seaweed and delicious tuna. The chef served the sushi quickly, so I ended up eating without taking any photos. I realized this only after leaving the restaurant. I think it would be interesting to visit again and this sushi restaurant was a pleasant experience.

I am in Asahikawa. The other day, I shared some tips on how to find a sushi restaurant at Sushitei Matsukawa. I hope you can use that as a reference and continue to discover hidden sushi restaurants in the area. I want to revive the sushi culture of sitting at the counter, chatting with the chef, and enjoying sushi. This review of Koh Sushi is also my first post on Tabelog. It is a sushi restaurant in the bustling area of Asahikawa with a big, eye-catching sign that locals interested in food would recognize. However, without someone introducing it like this, people from outside the city or even the prefecture might not know about it. Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by the veteran chef couple. The typical layout of a local sushi restaurant. It's a calming environment for me. We exchanged information while enjoying tea and looking at the menu, and I ended up ordering the special nigiri sushi. We talked about the sushi association, and the chef mentioned how in the past, there used to be a strong bond among members, even lending each other sushi rice. There used to be family events in Asahikawa as well, but now only golf competitions remain, and there are no more family-oriented events. As we chatted, the sushi kept coming, and the finished pieces were placed in front of me. The hot soup also arrived quickly. The impressions that stood out to me were the abalone and the fatty tuna. The sushi rice was standard, and the nigiri was on the softer side. The hot tea and soup paired well with the sushi. I had a great time chatting with the chef's wife, and the time spent at this restaurant was more enjoyable than just eating sushi. That's what eating sushi is all about.
