Welcome.---------- November 2016 ----------Not long after the subway station "Shiroishi", there is a hidden spot for tanuki, a Chinese restaurant in the vicinity. It is a chicken restaurant called "Jidori Sho" with a lively and smiling owner and a shy young waitress. The owner is from Jidori Tei in Sumikawa, while the waitress is still getting used to the atmosphere and customer service. In the kitchen, there is a polite chef. The brand new restaurant has a counter at the entrance, tables on the right, and three raised tatami seating areas in the back. The atmosphere is more like a gathering of friends than a family setting, with lively performances at the counter.
To start off, we found four peas in the pod as an appetizer. The cover charge was 200 yen, which was reasonable. The tanuki was thinly sliced and served as a tataki with a vinegar miso dressing. The flavor was tangy and savory, with a hint of mustard vinegar miso that added to the taste. How does the miso-grilled Satsuma chicken thigh taste? The neighboring customer was making noise and splattering oil on the teppan, while we were quietly enjoying our meal. The Satsuma chicken thigh was stir-fried with a savory miso sauce, giving it a ginger-flavored taste similar to ginger pork. The chicken had a good texture, but the small bite-size pieces lacked impact. It would have been better if the flavor and color were more pronounced to emphasize the taste of the chicken. The miso-grilled dish was a bit of a letdown. The cabbage was a common side dish, and we ended up mixing the leftover miso sauce with it. The chicken chops were tender and flavorful, similar to beef tongue, with a thickness similar to a slice of roast beef. We sprinkled some ichimi pepper as a substitute for mustard, which added a nice accent to the dish.
The Jidori ramen with a Japanese dashi broth was like "tori-men" with a subtle flavor of bonito flakes and kelp, complemented by the savory taste of chicken. The simmered chicken, fish cake, and sweet potato were tender, and the thin, translucent noodles were smooth with no firmness. Overall, the flavors were on the stronger side. We also ordered a salmon onigiri, which had flaky and juicy flesh with plump grains. Two days ago, there were many customers enjoying "mizutaki", but Tom prefers the "Jidori sukiyaki". As we left, the owner warmly saw us off outside despite the cold weather. Thank you for the delicious meal. Tomdoc recommends using a PC for optimal viewing experience.
