I learned about it from kimumiyu's post. The name "Granma" immediately reminded me of the "Sansai cuisine Granma" in Shiraoi, but when I saw the familiar illustration of Shiraoi Granma on the flyer, I quickly realized that there was some connection. However, the official website and Instagram of the restaurant do not provide any detailed information. I was curious about the relationship between the two, but since they only open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, and there are no posts on their official Instagram showing that they are open, I wondered if they were still in business. The owner's main job is a carpenter, so there is a possibility that they may have stopped. I suddenly remembered that it was the 2nd Saturday when I looked at the calendar, so I decided to call and confirm. Although the phone rang, there was no answer, so I gave up. However, about 5 minutes later, the restaurant called me back. They confirmed that they were open, so I told them that my friend and I would visit around 12:00. The restaurant is located in a residential area, and I easily found it because there was a signboard. However, I couldn't see the parking lot that was supposed to accommodate four cars. Since it was too much trouble to search for it, we parked in a safe place and walked to the restaurant. We took off our shoes at the entrance and went upstairs, where the previous customers had already informed the owner that we had arrived. Inside the restaurant, there were only counter seats facing the kitchen and a large table for eight people in the center. The previous customers were two young men and one elderly woman in their 70s, and they seemed to be regulars. The menu consisted of two items, Granma set meal and Chinese herbal curry, and the set meal used homegrown vegetables, with the menu being decided in the morning as they use freshly picked vegetables. We chose the Granma set meal, and when it arrived, it looked delicious. The leafy vegetables were juicy and tasty, and when I took a bite of the turnip in the small dish, I exclaimed, "Wow, this turnip is delicious!" The stew had a thick texture and a mild seasoning with depth, making it delicious. Although it was a vegetable-centered menu, the vegetables were so delicious that I had no complaints. When I was a child, I would have hated this menu, but now in my 60s, it's a delicious menu. The male owner said that he had visited the "Sansai cuisine Granma" in Shiraoi three years ago for work and had become a fan of it, and he hit it off with the owner. The original Shiraoi Granma was run by an elderly woman, but now it is run by a young man, and there are both elderly and young staff members in the kitchen. Since they cannot visit often, the owner started the restaurant himself (laughs). The restaurant is located in the owner's family home, and the cooking is done by the owner's mother, who was delighted when we praised the delicious turnip. My wife, who was taught how to make it, is very motivated. When about 20 customers visited, the cooking staff, the owner's mother, was very busy, and they don't put much effort into advertising. It is a precious restaurant where you can enjoy the taste of a typical home-cooked meal that you cannot find in ordinary restaurants, and I hope they continue to run it for a long time.
