Today, just like yesterday, it was drizzling during the daytime for some reason. I saw a break in the clouds in the southern sky, so I thought it was okay to go outside, but when I did, it was raining! So, I gave up on riding my bike and decided to use the car instead. I left the house at a tricky time, as going too far would lead to heavy traffic. So, I chose a nearby restaurant, which was the one I visited today. I hadn't had motsu-ni (simmered offal) in a while, so I decided to go for it. I arrived at the restaurant around 11:55 AM. The parking lot was empty, so I easily found a spot and went inside. More than half of the seats were available. I decided to go for the "Double Motsu-ni Set Meal" for 1060 yen, with extra rice. It seemed a bit pricey, but I was confident that it wouldn't taste bad given the price. After waiting for about 10 minutes, my order was ready. The motsu-ni didn't seem too hot, which was good for me as I have a sensitive palate. It didn't have a strong smell and seemed fine. However, as I started eating, I felt like something was missing. The flavor seemed a bit bland, and the rice was dry. It was one of those rare occasions where I could clearly say that it wasn't delicious. I managed to finish the meal, feeling disappointed. It was a disappointing day. The motsu-ni seemed different from the one I used to eat in Saitama, and the combination of bland flavor and dry rice for over 1000 yen made me question if it was worth it. I drove back home in the rain, feeling let down. I wish I could try delicious motsu-ni in Gunma. The motsu-ni I used to eat in Saitama was tasty, but I wonder what happened to the food scene in Hokkaido.

Yudetaro specializes in machine-made noodles using homemade noodles and has seven stores in Sapporo, Hokkaido. They have recently expanded to a new concept called "Motsu Jiro." The third store of "Motsu Jiro Nishiminamisawa" in Sapporo opened on May 10, 2022. I visited for a late lunch with my usual companion for the first time. The restaurant is located in Nishiminamisawa, Teine-ku, Sapporo, along Hokkaido Route 5. Please check the exact location on Tabelog. I visited on a weekday afternoon around 3 pm. I parked my car in the restaurant's parking lot. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious and bright. There were no customers when I entered, with only two customers coming in later. As soon as you enter the store, there are two food ticket vending machines on the right. I ordered the "Motsu Stir-Fry Set Meal for 680 yen" for the first time. I handed in the food ticket for "Motsu Stir-Fry Set Meal for 680 yen" and the "tempura service ticket." I also opted for the free "large serving" of rice. It's self-service as usual. My usual companion brought water to the table. After waiting for 9 minutes, our number was called, and my usual companion went to pick up the food. Motsu Stir-Fry Set Meal Motsu stir-fry with a mildly spicy taste. It's relatively mild in flavor. When you add chili peppers, it becomes a perfect flavor for your taste. The ingredients include onions, carrots, green peppers, cold tofu, pickles, green onions, miso soup, wakame seaweed, green onion rice, and a large serving option of 330g. Price: 680 yen (tax included) Tempura Freshly fried and hot. Free with the service ticket. Individual price: 130 yen (tax included) The "Motsu Stir-Fry Set Meal" for 680 yen is a decent set meal. When you add chili peppers, the flavor changes to a more complex one. Both my usual companion and I preferred the chili pepper-seasoned "Motsu Stir-Fry" over the "Motsu Stew." Even my usual companion, who isn't particularly fond of "motsu," found it delicious. It would be convenient to have more reasonable "set meals" for breakfast. However, it may be a bit heavy for the morning. (laughs) Next time, I'll go for the "Motsu Stir-Fry Set Meal" again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

A few hours after I had soba, my mother ended up passing away. I spent the night at my sister-in-law's house and woke up at 5:30 am. Since my siblings were still resting, I sneaked out and headed to a nearby morning bath. I felt refreshed after just taking a quick shower the day before. Feeling hungry after feeling refreshed, I went to Motsu Jiro along Route 5. I was initially planning to order from the Yude Taro menu, but I was drawn to the words "Motsu Nitsuke Set Meal" on the menu and ended up ordering it. After handing over my ticket, I waited about 5 minutes before being called to pick up my tray and return to my seat with the Motsu Nitsuke, sprinkled with a bit of shichimi. The dish looked delicious with a miso-based flavor and clear soup instead of miso soup. The Motsu Nitsuke was very tender and well-cooked, but I personally felt it could use a bit more sweetness or spiciness in the seasoning. My brother, however, said he liked the taste. I prefer a seasoning that can't be achieved with just shichimi. Overall, it was a satisfying breakfast. The clear soup was particularly great.

I wonder what the taste of Motsu Jiro's motsu (offal) is like. I decided to try takeout without dining in at the store. I got a 1kg portion of stewed motsu for 1320 yen. It's 132 yen for 100g of stewed motsu, which seems like a good deal, right? I brought it home and put it in a pot, waiting for it to melt. It's starting to melt now. Hmm, it's a stewed motsu with a strong miso flavor and a hint of sweetness. And it's tender. It's just right. While it's already delicious as it is, I personally like it a bit sweeter and saltier, so I added some sugar. I adjusted it to my preferred taste and enjoyed it. Yeah, this is it. This feeling. The advantage of takeout is being able to adjust it to your preferred taste. I'm definitely coming back for more.
