TAKASAN-BATACHAN
After finishing shooting near Tachimachi Misaki on June 16, 2018, I stopped by Tanigashira Onsen to have lunch and sweat a little, then returned to the vicinity of Jyujigai. I suddenly thought of buying something for dinner that day, so I decided to stop by this store. This time, I chose a retort "Hayashi Rice (Gotoken Hayashi Beef)" for my meal, as well as a "Butter Chicken Curry" for a first-time experience. I also picked up two mini apple pies and two cream puffs for myself and my aunt. On the way, I made another stop for shopping before visiting my aunt's place and handing her the mini apple pies and cream puffs. She was pleased as they were her favorite treats.
After returning home around 2:30 PM, I took a shower to wash away the sweat and it was around 3:00 PM. It was a perfect time for a snack, so I brewed some coffee and enjoyed my snack time. This time, I bought the coffee from Mega Donki instead of my usual Starbucks, and surprisingly, it was delicious and convenient. However, I still crave Starbucks coffee beans. Leaving that aside, the sweetness of the cream puffs pairs well with black coffee. They are rich in cream, truly a classic. Next, the apple pie. The cinnamon in the apple filling enhances the flavor and complements the coffee. I think cinnamon adds a nice touch to apple pie. Oh! But I wouldn't recommend this apple pie to Che♪ as she seems to dislike cinnamon. There was also pumpkin pie available, which might be a better choice for her. Let's keep that in mind for later.
Moving on to the evening, I decided to have the "Hayashi Beef" for dinner. I had already cooked rice, so I heated up the retort as per the instructions on the box. Let's try it. Hmm! The umami of the demi-glace sauce combined with the crunchy texture of bamboo shoots and the texture of shiitake mushrooms is similar to the Hayashi rice I had before (refer to Hakodate Curry EXPRESS (6/1)), but something felt missing. After thinking for a bit, I decided to sprinkle some Himalayan rock salt, and it made a significant difference! The dish tasted much better. It seems my body was craving salt after a day of biking and sweating, and that's why the salt enhanced the flavor. Despite the salt issue, the Hayashi Beef was delicious, and I could tell it was well-made. Our taste buds are quite influenced by our physical condition, I realized. Leaving the salt matter aside, the taste of the Hayashi Beef remains delightful. Let's continue to enjoy it. I would love to have it again. I will share my thoughts on the Butter Chicken Curry later.
The next day, I had the "Butter Chicken Curry" for dinner. I read the description on the box and found out that this curry is a collaboration between Hakodate Commercial and Industrial High School (abbreviated as Hakoshou) and a part of the distribution business class called "HAKO SHOP." That's why it was my first time seeing it. I heated it up along with freshly cooked rice and enjoyed it. The curry sauce was labeled as medium-spicy, but it was more on the mild side.
