In July 2022, I visited a hair restoration fishing port for work and originally planned to try a seafood bowl at a new restaurant. However, when I come to this area, I always choose "Zion" over seafood dishes! (laughs) When I visit Zion, I always order takeout as well, so I pre-ordered a total of 8 meals for my family and a certain dining hall the day before by phone. I ordered the limited-time lamb and daikon soup curry in the restaurant. The lamb and daikon soup curry (1,280 yen) is always set to level 3 spiciness here. The lamb meat is incredibly tender, almost to the point where it might lose its shape if cooked any longer. The dish also includes daikon, stir-fried cabbage, chrysanthemum greens, and paneer, an Indian cottage cheese that has a texture similar to tofu or mozzarella, which adds a perfect touch to the curry. The ingredients harmonize well together without conflicting, showing great attention to detail. The soup itself is perfectly balanced, making me, someone who isn't a big fan of soup curry, a loyal fan after trying the Nirabuta here. I even think I don't need to eat soup curry anywhere else! (laughs) The takeout items, "Nirabuta" and "braised pork," were also incredibly delicious, making me smile involuntarily. I don't know when I'll be able to come back next, but if I'm called to Rumoi for work, I'll definitely choose "Zion" over "Yamaoka-ya Rumoi store"! (laughs)

◆Enjoying the Michelin-selected flavors in Rumoi, when I have work, lunch is almost always decided to be here. I have visited this restaurant many times before, and it has been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand. This means that the dishes meet Michelin's standards and provide a satisfaction level that exceeds the price. Let's indulge in the taste of a dish that has been praised for its flavor.◆Kakuni Vegetable Soup Curry Until now, I had only eaten chicken, so today I tried the braised pork. I also challenged the maximum spiciness. Kakuni Vegetable 1790 yen (excluding tax) Spiciness level 10 (free 10 levels) Regular rice The soup, served generously in a large, deep dish, is voluminous and visually appealing.【Soup】The creamy tonkotsu flavor comes through strongly in the soup. It's not heavy, and has a delicate and subtle flavor with a refreshing hint of cinnamon. The aroma of cardamom comes through later. The richness of the pork belly matches perfectly with the tonkotsu-based soup. Pork is definitely a better match than chicken.【Braised Pork】Delicious! Regular braised pork tends to be too flavorful, overpowering the soup's flavor, but this braised pork is different. It's soft, fluffy, and tender, with a gentle seasoning that doesn't overshadow the soup's flavor but complements it. The tender, flavorful pork goes perfectly with the tonkotsu-flavored soup.【Vegetables】Broccoli: fragrant and sweet Shimeji mushrooms: also fragrant Green pepper: fried, sweet Eggplant: fried, small but sweet Potato: boiled and fried Carrot: boiled, sweet Pumpkin: not too sweet, well stewed Cabbage: boiled, sweet Eight different vegetables compete in sweetness, each with a good aroma and sweetness that is brought out well, creating a gentle flavor.【Rice】The plump, shiny rice is cooked with plenty of water, using high-quality rice. It also has a sweet flavor. It goes well with the soup and enhances the flavor of the soup with its sweetness.◆The recognized excellence by Michelin, in my opinion, is best matched with pork. The delicate flavor of the braised pork doesn't overpower the soup's flavor, creating a delightful balance. I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious soup. The regulars here highly recommend the nira keema, so I definitely want to try it next time. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!! ◆My personal biased top 10 list of natto soup curry My top 10 Sapporo soup curry list

There is a soup curry restaurant in Rumoi! This place serves a unique version of curry with pork and leeks topped with a poached egg. The flavor is sharp and refreshing rather than rich and deep, with a strong kick of spiciness. The pork and leeks are decent, but not exceptional enough to be the main highlight.

It took 2 and a half hours from Sapporo to get to Rumoi, a place that is not easy to reach. We went there aiming for this soup curry. We arrived at 10:30, but there was already a customer parked ahead of us. After that, more customers arrived gradually, and by the time the restaurant opened, almost all seats were filled. Truly a restaurant that deserves its high rating. I ordered the chicken and leek curry, while my companion had the pork and garlic chive curry. The chicken and leek curry that came out was like a curry rice bowl with fluffy egg and burdock. It was incredibly delicious! The soup was very generous and filling. I requested a spice level of 3, but it was spicier than a level 3 at other restaurants... in fact, I started sweating as if the heat was coming from within. I would love to try it again in the cold season, but I'm not confident about making the trip to Rumoi in winter.

On the 7th day of the 1-week tour around Hokkaido, while heading south from Wakkanai to Sapporo, I stopped by at Curry Zion in Rumoi for lunch. It's a soup curry restaurant, and since I wasn't sure what to order from their extensive menu, I asked the staff for recommendations. They suggested the Chicken and Pork as their popular choices, and also mentioned that regular customers often order the Leek Pork. I remembered reading a review praising the leeks, so I went with the Leek Pork. The staff also suggested adding a poached egg on top, which I agreed to. I asked for a spice level of 4, as 2 was the standard. The soup curry was served in a large bowl with plenty of ingredients, and the rice was a medium serving. It was a bit spicy at first, but I gradually got used to it and found it to be just right. The Hokkaido leeks provided a substantial amount and added a nice crunch. The tender pork and fluffy egg paired perfectly. After the meal, I ordered the seasonal lassi with Okinawan Shikuwasa topping, which was refreshing and tangy. When I asked about the meaning of the restaurant's name "Zion," I was told it's a reggae term meaning "sacred land," similar to the origin of "Zeon" in Gundam.

This is my first visit to this famous restaurant in Rumoi. I arrived about 10 minutes after opening, and most of the seats were already taken. I initially planned to order chicken, but the staff didn't come to take my order right away. I tried to order when they came close, but they said they would come back later. I realized they were busy as there were only two people working in the kitchen and on the floor. After waiting patiently, they finally took my order after about 20 minutes. The curry arrived in less than 10 minutes. I started with the soup. It had a strong spice flavor, but I could also taste the rich base soup. The taste was clear and not too spicy, even though I ordered it at level 10 spiciness (individual preferences may vary). The vegetable ingredients included eggplant, shimeji mushrooms, potatoes, bell peppers, carrots, and pumpkin. There was a generous amount of shimeji mushrooms, which was great for mushroom lovers. It also had half a boiled egg and chicken. The chicken was tender and easily came off the bone. The vegetables were soft and easy to eat. I finished it in no time. Next, I'll try the restaurant's specialty, the garlic pork dish.

On a certain holiday, lunch was at Curry Zion! Around 11:40, there were 5 groups of 16 customers already seated, and 5 groups of 11 customers waiting. The owner and one female staff member were working. Today's order was: - Ordered: Pork and Leek Curry, 1,280 yen (spiciness level 3, less rice) - Egg Topping, 110 yen The food arrived in 15 minutes! The soup had a rich and spicy flavor. The egg topping added a creamy touch, but due to the strong spice blend, I ended up sweating a lot haha. It was delicious, thank you! I will come back again!

Nira pork seems to be popular. In 23 years, the line between Rumoi and Fukagawa will also be abolished, and the Rumoi Main Line will disappear. So it will become difficult for people from outside the area to visit this area. So I decided to try a popular menu. Nira pork. It looks quite plain visually as it is, so I added some toppings. Broccoli, carrots, boiled eggs, sausages. It became quite a generous portion. The vegetables are deep-fried, and the broccoli has a crispy texture. The carrots are sweet and delicious. The sausage is not visible on the surface, but it is sunk at the bottom of the soup and is larger than I thought. The skin is crispy. The taste of the sausage itself is strong and has a fragrant flavor, making it delicious. The curry itself doesn't seem to be Indian curry, but it might be in the same category. It has a different spice feeling from Osaka's spice curry. I wondered if the nira would go well with curry, but it was surprisingly delicious. Of course, garlic goes well with curry, so if the flavors are similar, there's no reason they wouldn't go well together. The spiciness is said to be around a medium level for level 2, so I chose level 5, but the spiciness was not a problem, as I am generally strong with spiciness. If you're not confident, levels 2 or 3 would be safe. Thank you for the meal.

I changed my plans last minute after hearing the news that the Rumoi Main Line would be closing in March. Instead of having lunch in Asahikawa or Sapporo, I decided to have lunch at Rumoi Station. The train I took was filled with senior train enthusiasts heading to Rumoi, the final stop on the line. The journey took about an hour through the snow-covered landscape, stopping at 10 stations before reaching Rumoi. Most of the enthusiasts quickly left the station without spending any money there. I, on the other hand, decided to spend a leisurely 4 hours in Rumoi, despite the snow. I had already found a lunch spot online, so I called to confirm they were open before heading to Curry Zion on my bike. The restaurant was busy when I arrived, but I managed to order my dish - the Negi Buta curry with extra cheese topping on the rice. The portion was huge, with lots of leeks and pork belly. I enjoyed the meal, even though it was quite spicy, and ended up ordering a refreshing lassi to cool down. Overall, it was a delicious experience, and I would love to visit again if I have the chance. It's a shame to think about what will happen to the area once the railway is gone.

I love curry, but I'm not good with spicy food. By reducing the spiciness, the flavors of the ingredients and soup come to the forefront, allowing you to truly appreciate the curry's quality. On November 15, 2022, I tried the "Nira Buta Soup Curry with Cheese" with a spice level of 1. With the first bite, I thought to myself, "Delicious." I had never imagined a curry with so much chives before, but the balance between the unique chive flavor and the curry spices was perfect. The pork added richness and depth to the dish. The combination of curry and dairy is always a winner, and the cheese topping contributed to the mild and rich flavors. I wish I had ordered double the cheese topping. There are many curry restaurants in my town in Kanagawa, but I was truly impressed by the taste of this curry. Despite the long journey, I promised to come back as I paid the bill and left the restaurant, saying, "Nira Buta, I'll be back!" On December 14, 2022, I revisited the restaurant because I was craving the taste of Nira Buta. It was snowing heavily, and my face was hurting from the cold, but the delicious soup curry warmed me up. I ordered the Nira Buta with pumpkin, bell pepper, and cheese toppings. Even though I wanted to try something other than Nira Buta this time, I couldn't leave without having it again. I hope to visit again someday.

Zaion in Rumoi, Hokkaido, is the number one restaurant for soup curry. I tried their popular leek and egg curry, and it was delicious! It's great to be able to enjoy soup curry in Rumoi. The restaurant has a stylish atmosphere, making it perfect for a date or family outing. #Hokkaido #Rumoi #Zaion #SoupCurry

In my mind, when I think of Rumoi, I imagine herring and shishamo fish. It's a port town, so seafood lunch seems like the way to go. However, I heard that there is a delicious soup curry restaurant there, so I decided to give it a try. The name of the restaurant is "ZION." It's a small family-run place with limited seating, so it was almost full when I visited. However, there was no line outside. The specialty of this restaurant is the Nira Pork Soup Curry. It's not a common combination in soup curry, but I heard it's surprisingly delicious. So, I ordered the Nira Pork Soup Curry, which cost 1100 yen. The toppings were reasonably priced, so I added a few extras: pumpkin for 90 yen, boiled egg for 90 yen, natto for 160 yen, and egg for 100 yen. When it arrived, it didn't look very impressive, but there was plenty of Nira Pork underneath the toppings. I chose a spice level of 2, so it wasn't very spicy. If you like it hot, you might want to increase the spice level. The soup had a nice Nira flavor, with a slight hint of Nira's pungency, but overall, it was very tasty. The pork also added a nice touch, rounding out the curry's flavor. It was filling and satisfying. Thank you for the meal.

Around the time of Obon in August, I headed to Rumoi in Hokkaido (150 km north of Sapporo) to visit a soup curry restaurant called Curry Zion in Rumoi City. The restaurant is located in the city center of Rumoi, with a parking lot for 6 cars, but it was already full even right after opening. I had to wait for a parking spot to open up in front of the restaurant. Some customers seemed to cause inconvenience to the restaurant, so I wish everyone would park in the designated parking lot. After waiting for quite some time, I finally received my order 90 minutes after arriving. The wait was worth it as the food was delicious. I ordered the "Garlic Chive Pork" for my wife, which was a popular menu item. It looked great, had a good aroma, and my wife really enjoyed it. The rich soup with the flavors of chives and pork blended together perfectly, creating a unique and delicious taste. I also tried a bit and found it to be flavorful with a good balance of umami and spices. I ordered the "Lamb and Daikon Soup Curry" as my choice, which was a limited-time menu item. It looked appealing, had a good aroma, and the flavors were excellent. The soup was rich and flavorful, with layers of umami and spices blending well together. The level of spiciness was manageable, so I could go for a higher level next time. The combination of ingredients, including tender lamb, well-cooked daikon, and paneer cheese, worked surprisingly well, creating a delicious dish. It took about 2 hours from ordering to leaving, but since we came specifically for the food, the wait was not a problem for us. The turnover rate was not very fast, so it's recommended to arrive early to secure a parking spot and avoid long waits. The restaurant had good COVID-19 precautions in place, and the food was very tasty. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience.

I stopped by around 11:30 AM on a Sunday for a drive. I waited outside for about 30 minutes, but once inside, the food was served quickly. I ordered the regular-sized Buta-Nira for 1,210 yen and Chicken Mom for 385 yen, totaling 1,595 yen, with a spice level of 4. It had a gradually spicy taste. My companion ordered the Chicken with a spice level of 2. The soup was plentiful and satisfying. My companion left some rice, so I finished it. The Buta-Nira was different from what I imagined, but it was surprisingly good.

The new breeze in the title refers to the restaurant "Calizzaion," which has been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand. This restaurant specializes in soup curry. 1. Seating: There are counter seats and table seats available. I sat at the counter on the day of my visit, and they were mindful of COVID-19 prevention measures. 2. Atmosphere and Service: The restaurant has a stylish and cozy atmosphere, with a fairytale-like ambiance and a handmade feel. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. 3. Taste: I ordered the "Nira Pork" with a cheese and bonito topping and added rice. As someone with limited experience in eating soup curry, I found the curry with the aroma of garlic chives and spices, paired with high-quality pork, very delicious. 4. Price: The total cost for the Nira Pork with topping rice was 1,386 yen, which I found to be quite reasonable. 5. Overall Impression: While I am not an expert on soup curry, I would like to try the chicken next time to fully enjoy the world of soup curry. It was a delightful experience in Rumoi, where I also noticed efforts to revitalize the town with local products. I hope Rumoi continues to develop as a tourist destination. Please note that there is parking available but it fills up quickly. Expect a wait, so don't forget to bring something to pass the time. Thank you for the meal.

Michelin recognized the deliciousness of the soup. The shop, visited almost after 10 years, had been designated as "Bib Gourmand" by Michelin and had been completely renovated. The soup, which had always left a delicious impression, had evolved dramatically. The once quirky entrance had transformed into a chic style. The interior of the shop had been uniquely and beautifully renovated. It had been a while, so I ordered the chicken. Chicken Vegetable Soup Curry [Soup] The soup, with a deep red-brown color, had a large amount of basil floating in it. The rich flavor highlighted the pork bone taste, giving a creamy sensation. The umami of the chicken and vegetables harmonized even more, giving an impression of the flavor evolving from before. [Vegetables] The carrots were sweet and tender, the bell peppers had a refreshing aroma, the eggplant was soft, the potatoes were sweet and tender. The fried pumpkin was incredibly sweet. And the boiled egg. Each vegetable had a strong sweetness, with intricate flavors. [Chicken] Tender. The umami was distinct. There was no hint of any unpleasant smell. Very delicious. [Rice] High-quality rice cooked with plenty of water, just the right firmness. Pickled white turnips and lemon... in other words, pickled white turnips... I should have ordered it... (I was captivated by the large pitcher and didn't notice this menu item...) They also had a lassi made with fresh strawberries. Part of the shop had turned into a souvenir corner, selling stylish accessories. It used to be a somewhat unpolished curry shop with great curry, but now it had become a polished, yet still excellent, renowned shop. Highly recommended. Thank you for the meal!!! ◆For other soup curry restaurant recommendations, click here →https://www.ok-yo4.com/curry

I chose Rumoi as one of the destinations for my first day in Hokkaido. It's a place I've never visited before, but I heard in the news that the JR Rumoi Line is under consideration for closure, so I decided to take the train there before it's too late. The train from Fukagawa was only one car, but surprisingly, there were more passengers than I expected. I had read in the newspaper that only train enthusiasts ride this line, so I was both surprised and happy to see a good number of passengers. When I arrived in Rumoi, I had some time before my next train, so I decided to explore the town. There weren't many shops that caught my eye, but the beautiful sunset was quite impressive. I checked on "Tabelog" for a place to eat and found "Curry Zion" nearby that I could walk to. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was greeted by a pleasant aroma of spices and the interior had a nice atmosphere. I was a bit indecisive looking at the menu, but I ended up choosing the "Pork and Leek" curry. I could choose the level of spiciness, so I went for level 3, which was medium spicy. The restaurant seemed popular as many customers were ordering takeout. The soup curry and the "Pork and Leek" curry were both new to me, and the abundance of leeks in the soup added a nice flavor that complemented the spices well. The pork also added a nice touch to the overall taste. Eating the curry with white rice was so delicious that I almost couldn't speak. This restaurant gave me a feeling that there are still many delicious things to discover in Rumoi.

This is a popular restaurant that is always crowded. The chef in the kitchen has a quiet atmosphere, but a lively lady manages the restaurant. Today, I had the Pork and Chive Curry for ¥1188 with a topping of fried natto for ¥176 (natto is mixed in the fried dish), spiciness level 10. I also had the Vegetable Curry for ¥1155 with a topping of melting cheese for ¥176, spiciness level 4. Lastly, I had the Chicken Curry for ¥1249, spiciness level 10. The curry here is not greasy, has a clear soup, and is easy on the stomach. It is easy to eat, has a good aftertaste, and is flavorful. The rice includes bits of pressed barley, and it is delicious rice from Kato Farm in Kodaira, as mentioned on the menu. I requested a smaller portion today, which does not affect the price. However, you can also get a large portion for an additional ¥110. I enjoyed my meal today. Thank you for the delicious food.

I visited the restaurant on Friday at 11:10 in the afternoon. I stayed in Takikawa yesterday to visit a sushi restaurant, so today I decided to extend my trip to Rumoi for the famous soup curry. There was only one car in the parking lot in front of the restaurant, so I was able to park easily. There was one customer ahead of me and six customers behind me, and there were quite a few takeout orders as well. I sat at the counter seat at the back. I ordered the "Pork and Leek Soup Curry (1,188 yen including tax)" with "Melting Cheese topping (176 yen)" and chose the spice level of 3, which is about medium heat. The curry took about 20 minutes to be served, as it seemed that the takeout orders were taking some time to prepare. The soup curry was served in a large bowl with plenty of ingredients. It had thinly sliced pork and leeks, with the melting cheese topping blending nicely. The soup had a refreshing spiciness with a good balance of flavors, making it a taste that would appeal to many people. There was also a depth of flavor in the spiciness, so it didn't get boring to eat. The amount of soup was generous, so even with extra rice, you wouldn't run out of curry. I had a regular portion, but I was satisfied after finishing all the soup. I enjoyed the delicious soup curry. Thank you for the meal.

One day, we had the opportunity to visit a restaurant in Rumoi that we had been wanting to try. The restaurant was already a bit busy when we arrived, but we were lucky to find an available table. We decided to order the soup curry with plenty of leeks, which was a bit plain in appearance but tasted great with the leeks. We also added a topping of egg, making the curry a bit milder, but still with a strong spice flavor that was addictive. The name of the restaurant, "Zion," made me wonder if the owner was a fan of reggae music, as I used to listen to it a lot in the past. I would love to visit this restaurant again when I'm in the Rumoi area. Thank you for the meal!

Based on information from a friend, I visited this restaurant for the first time. I had the leek and pork soup curry with a topping of egg and it was spiciness level 5, leaving me sweating. I have had soup curry in Sapporo before, but this combination was a first for me. It was incredibly delicious and made me very happy. Despite waiting outside in the scorching sun for about 30 minutes, I was so satisfied that I forgot about the wait. It's a bit far, but I definitely want to go back!
