The Sapporo Morning Market in December 2019 is mainly run by wholesalers from the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market. The main customers are retail stores and restaurants, especially those related to seafood. Even famous sushi restaurants come here for their supplies. Normally, the market is not frequented by the general public. However, many people come to buy New Year's ingredients at the end of the year. The market's operating days coincide with the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market's calendar. The holidays for the next year have already been announced. The market is open from 5 am to 11 am, with general parking not allowed until 9 am. At the end of the year, a large parking lot is provided for the general public a bit further away. "Okuyama Shoten" is a shop that sells seafood processed products such as seafood side dishes and raw delicacies. They offer a variety of items that can be used by sushi restaurants, fishmongers, as well as general eateries and grocery stores. During New Year's, luxurious dishes and ingredients are the main focus. I bought items such as "datemaki," "black beans," and "matsutakebamemaki" for New Year's. Of course, "kazunoko" is a must-have for New Year's. I purchased the soy sauce-flavored "flavored kazunoko" that I bought last year. I also bought "red salmon fillets" and "nanban-zuke" for regular consumption. ■ Flavored Kazunoko 500g Soy Sauce Flavor Price: 1674 yen (tax included) Previous year: 1350 yen (tax included) ■ Datemaki 3 pieces Price: 454 yen each (tax included) ■ Black Beans Price: 378 yen (tax included) ■ Matsutakebamemaki Price: 378 yen each (tax included) ■ Red Salmon Fillets 4 slices Price: 540 yen (tax included) ■ Nanban-zuke Price: 270 yen (tax included) "Kazunoko" is an essential ingredient for New Year's. Being a wholesaler, the prices are reasonable. However, there was a price increase of 324 yen compared to the previous year. During New Year's, there are many opportunities to drink sake from the morning. "Kazunoko" is the perfect accompaniment to sake. My usual companion loves "datemaki" so I bought 3 pieces. (laughs) Normally, wholesalers sell in "boxes," but at the end of the year, they also sell in small bags for individual consumption. I wonder what great deals I will find next time. In January 2015, Okuyama Shoten is a store that specializes in seafood processed products such as seafood side dishes and delicacies. During the New Year, luxurious dishes and ingredients are the main focus. It is a joyous start to the new year. One place that is frequented for year-end shopping is the "Maruka Orimono Center". The morning market at Maruka Orimono Center is where sushi restaurants and fishmongers come to purchase wholesale goods. Famous sushi restaurants and conveyor belt sushi companies also visit. There are many customers at the end of the year, resulting in a significant crowd. Normally, you can park your car in front of the building, but during the year-end, general customers have to park a bit further away. "Okuyama Shoten" is a shop located within the Sapporo morning market. I stopped by the shop. This shop is located in the Enzan-Kuwan area of Sapporo's Chuo Ward, within the Maruka Orimono Center Sapporo morning market. For the exact location of the shop, please check on Tabelog. I visited in 2013 and 2015 and combined the reviews. Throughout the year, you cannot enjoy delicacies such as cod roe or large button shrimp. In such times, it is convenient to buy side dishes and sake accompaniments that you usually enjoy. One thing you will want to buy when you visit Okuyama Shoten is "ika arare" (squid rice cracker). It is a side dish that I often enjoyed as a child. In recent years, the number of stores that handle it has decreased significantly. When I visited in the New Year of 2015, there was a great delicacy available. It was the "Basil-flavored squid carpaccio". This was my first time trying it, but since it was cheap, I bought it. In December 2013: - Ika Arare: Thinly sliced squid that is sweet and richly seasoned. It is a side dish that goes well with rice. It has a nostalgic taste. Price: 220 yen (including consumption tax) In January 2015: - Ika Arare: Details are the same as above Price: 248 yen (including 8% consumption tax), slightly increased - Basil-flavored squid carpaccio: It looks like octopus at first glance but it is squid. It uses American giant squid from America. It has a sour taste like carpaccio. It pairs well with wine or beer. The expiration date is about 2 weeks, and it is at a great price. Price: 200 yen for 5 bags (including 8% consumption tax) Regular price is around 800 yen for 5 bags. "Ika arare" is a sweet side dish. Many people don't like sweet side dishes, but this one is different. (laughs) "Basil-flavored squid carpaccio" has a flavor that makes you crave wine. It is not a side dish for rice. Okuyama Shoten is a place where you can enjoy seafood side dishes, dried delicacies, and fresh delicacies at an affordable price. It is a store where vendors come to buy goods. Next time, I might try the Hokkaido-style "uni-jan spicy". It is a delicious fresh delicacy that goes well with rice and sake. It was delicious, thank you.

On my first attempt, I couldn't find it after searching. On my second attempt, I arrived in the afternoon and found it closed. They say third time's the charm. |o| °д°)ノHello! Upon a quick glance, I noticed that most of the products were delicacies, and many adult customers were making bulk purchases. Taking a cue from them, Tom decided to do some "adult shopping" too. The opinions about the market were mixed, with some nice people and some grumpy ones. However, Mr. Okuyama here was a really pleasant person, making me feel comfortable buying from him. Now, when it comes to winter, you can't go wrong with "Izushi" (preserved sushi). With this much for only 700 yen, it's a steal. The flavor is gentle and consistent, with the richness of the hokke fish really shining through! It's almost like getting half a fish in each serving. The squid and shirasu in mirin was definitely a hit as a children's snack. The soft squid and shirasu simmered in mirin with a hint of sweetness made me crave a bowl of rice with soy sauce. The "Nanbanzuke" (southern barbarians' pickles) was also popular among other customers, so I couldn't resist making an impulse purchase. It's made by marinating vegetables in green chili peppers, and some people mistakenly buy it thinking it's "Nanban miso." The spiciness is a bit intimidating, so I haven't tried it yet. But they say it's delicious when added to rice! It sounded like something Mokutan would enjoy. Among the many unique delicacies in the shop, an unexpected hidden gem quickly sold out, leaving me thoroughly satisfied. Thank you for the feast!

"At Okuyama Shoten, they don't serve shika-meshi, but we were enjoying a lively conversation with three people at the table, including not just staff but also a customer chatting away. I am in Sapporo, visiting my grandchild for their birthday. It's a tradition for us to have breakfast together, but on the second day of my visit, my grandchild wouldn't wake up. Even after I told them I was waiting in the car, they still wouldn't come. So, I had to leave without them, which made them cry. On the third day, we finally managed to have a slightly delayed meal at a nearby facility. There were many places serving squid rice, but Okuyama Shoten was the cheapest option. The friendly lady there made a good impression, and I thought it would be nice if everyone was like her. Finally, the food arrived. If they didn't bring it out, I could have done it myself, but I didn't. The squid was small, but I didn't feel guilty eating it. The flavor was strong, and the squid meat was thick, making me wonder if it's okay to catch such small squid. The rice itself was not particularly tasty, but the seasoning was decent. One piece was enough to satisfy me."
