After being temporarily released from the busyness of summer, I aimed for Shakotan. I left Sapporo at 8:30, but got caught up in traffic control for the Hokkaido Marathon and lost quite a bit of time (๑°⌓︎°๑) Oh no. Along the way, I took a break with my beloved dog and arrived 30 minutes before the opening at 10:30. It was right on schedule. I entered as part of the first group at 11:00 opening. There are 8 table seats, so first come first served, unlike other famous restaurants. The menu has only two choices: uni-don (sea urchin rice bowl) and uni and ikura-don (sea urchin and salmon roe rice bowl). I ordered the uni-don for 3,740 yen including tax. When the dish was served, a cute staff member advised me to "try it without soy sauce first because this is the fish caught by our boat in the morning," and also warned me to "be careful with the fish in the bowl as it has many bones." Excellent customer service (࿁ŏ⚊︎ŏ࿁) シュン First, I tried it without soy sauce as advised! Wow, it was impressively delicious. Truly the taste of fresh morning-caught sea urchin (๑•̀‧̫•́๑) The pricing is also very reasonable. I savored it until the end and finished. It was incredibly delicious. The fish in the bowl was also good. The fish was called "moi" in Shakotan, which is not a high-end fish but had a good taste. I plan to come back here again next year. Sea urchin bowl for 3,740 yen There are various sea urchin bowl restaurants around here, but this is my favorite. The owner of this restaurant catches sea urchin in the morning and serves it for lunch on the same day, so it's fresh and delicious. The official website even shows if they went fishing in the morning, so you can trust the freshness. I'm sorry if I'm mistaken, but I wonder if the sea urchin at other restaurants was caught the day before. The sea urchin here tastes completely different from others. It's delicious. Well, the freshness is different, right? The business hours are relaxed, so you don't have to wake up early. It's a restaurant that doesn't want to be too crowded (lol).

Fresh Sea Urchin Bowl in July 2023 for 3740 yen at Shakotan ε=(ノ・∀・)ツ This is my second time this year! A small inn run by an active fisherman only open when there is Shakotan sea urchin available. The restaurant opens at 7 am and closes at 12 pm, with only a one-hour window for ordering between 11 am and 12 pm. No reservations are accepted, and they may close early if sold out. It's a hidden gem around 11 am on weekdays with no wait for seating. The menu offers two options: Fresh Sea Urchin Bowl for 3740 yen and a Two-color Bowl with sea urchin and salmon roe for 3410 yen. I, of course, chose the Fresh Sea Urchin Bowl, as that's what I work for! The innkeeper himself serves the morning-caught golden sea urchin generously piled up, probably more than 100g? It's incredibly delicious, with a richness that doesn't seem like typical Murasaki (purple) sea urchin, and doesn't even need soy sauce thanks to the sea salt flavor. The soup dish is also amazing! On this day, it was "Hokke fish miso soup," with a gentle miso soup packed with the fish's umami flavor. The green onions were a nice touch, and the pickles, especially the strong vinegar seaweed, were incredibly tasty! If getting fat from this is the price to pay, then I'm more than happy! I might consider staying overnight next year. *Note: This is unrelated to the Shinsakotan Peninsula's Rinsako. Thank you for the feast! (^ω^)

Every year, I go to the Shiretoko Peninsula to eat sea urchin rice bowl. However, waiting in line from early in the morning or waiting for two hours in front of the restaurant... and sometimes finding shells or spines mixed in the sea urchin... well, it can be a bit discouraging considering the high price and the fact that it's only once or twice a year, right? In that regard, this restaurant opens at 11:00. They prepare the dishes gradually after you are seated, so it may take some time after being seated, but there are enough seats so you can be seated quickly. They mainly serve white sea urchin, but it is more affordable than other restaurants, and the sea urchin served is very fresh as shown in the picture taken by the customer. Moreover, their main business is fishing and an inn, so the miso soup made from the broth taken from the fish scraps served the day before is excellent. I plan to visit this place again next year.

At night, my stomach turned into an aquarium, so I was prepared for breakfast, but it turned out to be a kind meal. Breakfast was served from 7:30 am. It included tamagoyaki, nori, tororo yam, mozuku, and salt-grilled hokke. There were also marinated herring and cod roe, but overall it felt like a traditional inn breakfast. Squid sashimi was served, but the portion was normal. There were homemade pickles and plenty of vegetables, which was comforting. Yogurt was also available. I enjoyed a cup of coffee after the meal, feeling relaxed in the morning. The room was very clean, making the stay comfortable. There is a scenic coastline just a 10-minute walk away, perfect for a morning stroll.

It's about an hour's drive from Yoichi to Rinko-so, where I visited to enjoy the sea urchin season in June. This small inn offers one night's stay with two meals included, but the rooms only have a toilet. There are separate communal baths for men and women at the inn, but there is also a beautiful hot spring just a 5-minute drive away. However, the highlight of this inn is definitely the food! Dinner starts at 6 pm and lasts until 8 pm, with individual portions being quite generous. Here are some highlights from the dinner menu: - Sea urchin (about 10 pieces per person) - Grilled Ohyo fish, simmered hokke fish - Soy sauce-marinated salmon roe - Namako vinegar - Octopus and seaweed vinegar - Tuna tataki with seaweed - Hokke sashimi tataki - Abalone liver stew - Assorted sashimi - Abalone sashimi - Tsubugai in saltwater - Grilled sweet shrimp, squid ear, strawberry - Seafood grill (abalone, tsubugai, button shrimp) - Sake-steamed seafood (abalone, sweet shrimp, surf clam, sea urchin) The dinner was quite abundant, and I couldn't finish everything, but the sea urchin was truly a taste of the sea. It was served on top of rice after removing the saltwater, and it was delicious. The amount of food was overwhelming, and my stomach felt like an aquarium by the end of the meal.

This time, I wanted to ride the "Shakotan-go" submarine sightseeing boat that I couldn't ride last time when I went to the Shakotan Peninsula to eat sea urchin. Since I can't drive alone, I joined a bus tour to the Shakotan Peninsula. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat sea urchin because it is only available from June to August, but when I came during the opening in June last time, it was really delicious and impressive! If I had come last month, I could have eaten it, but it's a shame... I didn't have high expectations for the tour, but it included a lunch of seafood bowl and crab soup. This place had good prices and reviews for sea urchin, so I would like to visit during sea urchin season next time. The underwater view from the submarine was not as clear as I expected, but the weather was nice and I could see the beautiful Shakotan blue! It was fun to feed the seagulls.

On September 2, 2022 (Friday) at Ryuko-so, a dining place in Hokkaido, I had a delicious lunch of Uni-don (sea urchin rice bowl). The fishing season has ended, but they are still serving lunch! I saw the information on social media and decided to treat myself to this last-minute delight. It was so good, and I'm glad I didn't miss out on it this year. I was busy in July and August, so this was a well-deserved reward for myself. Highly recommended!

I checked SNS every day and went on a day when there was a discount. The 3,500 yen sea urchin bowl was discounted to 2,500 yen! Very reasonable. Probably the most reasonable around here. The store opened at 11:00, but when I arrived at 10:30, I was the fifth in line. It's a short-term battle until 12:00, so customers lined up one after another. They opened at 10:45. Exciting. Of course, I ordered the sea urchin bowl! It would be a waste to put soy sauce on it. It was really delicious to eat it as it is! The other customers around me were also delighted, saying it was delicious. I only put a little soy sauce on one bite, but otherwise, I ate it as it is. Very satisfied.

When I visited, there were only two options on the menu - Uni Don and Uni Ikura Don - which was disappointing, but the freshly prepared Uni Don was delicious. The staff kindly explained about the sea urchin and miso soup, which was informative. The restaurant was open from 11am to 12pm when I visited.

In July 2021, I visited a restaurant in Nyaku, Shakotan. Nyaku is known for two popular seafood bowl restaurants: "Urakou Honten" located next to the parking lot of Shakotan Cape, and "Unizenya Suginoya" located at the entrance of Nyaku Fishing Port, open only on weekends and holidays. However, "Oshokujidokoro Uroko" is a limited operation restaurant located within the inn "Urakou-so," which I believe should be registered as a separate entity from the inn for proper evaluation, but it is officially registered as one establishment, so there is nothing the reviewers can do about it. "Oshokujidokoro Uroko" is only open during the sea urchin fishing season from mid-June to the end of August, and the owner, who is a sea urchin fisherman, only opens the restaurant on days when fresh sea urchin is available. The average number of operating days during the season is about 20 days per year, and it is necessary to check if the restaurant is open on the official website the night before or on the morning of the visit. Despite trying for several years, I have always been unlucky with the restaurant being closed on the days I visited Shakotan due to my work schedule. However, this time I was able to visit on an operating day for the first time. The menu for the day included "Uni Don" (Sea Urchin Bowl), "Ikura Don" (Salmon Roe Bowl), and "Uni Ikura Nishoku Don" (Sea Urchin and Salmon Roe Two-Color Bowl). Personally, I prefer menus that allow me to enjoy more than just sea urchin, such as three-color bowls or seafood bowls, but at this restaurant, there is little point in choosing anything other than sea urchin. I opted for the "Uni Don," which came with a bowl of sea urchin, taro miso soup, a small dish of squid and cucumber vinegar, and pickles, all for 3,300 yen. The amount of sea urchin was generous, almost covering the rice completely, with about 120g of sea urchin used. When I first tasted the sea urchin and rice without any condiments, the natural sweetness of the sea urchin spread throughout my mouth. Adding a little soy sauce enhanced the harmony of the soy sauce flavor and the deliciousness of the sea urchin. Finally, I mixed the remaining rice and sea urchin together and savored it. The restaurant's irregular operating days may be a barrier, but if you want to savor delicious sea urchin, this is definitely an option to consider. Additionally, there are opportunities for discounts through coupon services for posting images on social media on certain days, although I did not take advantage of it this time.

I came to the Shakotan Peninsula in Hokkaido. I stayed at "Rinkosho Inn" for the night. Originally, my husband was trying to make a reservation here, but luckily, we were able to stay a little cheaper thanks to the "GoTo Travel Campaign"! "Rinkosho Inn has been officially approved as an accommodation provider for the GoTo Travel Campaign, so we will start accepting reservations for the campaign." It was written on the website and my husband made a reservation. This inn has a small number of rooms and it seems to fill up quickly, but we were lucky to get one room by chance. Rinkosho Inn is located close to the sea. There is a lot of greenery and surprisingly, there are hardly any cars passing by even when taking a leisurely walk! After a relaxing walk, we had dinner at the table seats on the first floor. It was nice to have fresh fish cooked from the sea nearby. One after another, local seafood dishes kept coming out and we enjoyed a feast of delicious fish. It's a great deal to have all this included in the accommodation price.

At a ryokan in Shikotsu, the dinner was an abundance of seafood that was too much to finish. It was a feast of ocean delicacies, including sashimi of salmon, sea urchin, abalone prepared in three ways (sashimi, grilled, and simmered), tsubugai, salmon roe, sea cucumber, and surf clam, among others. The signature sea urchin had a refreshing aftertaste, but the standout surprise was the surf clam, which was incredibly fresh and delicious. The sea cucumber was unexpectedly tasty as well. Having abalone in three different preparations was a luxurious experience, with the steamed abalone being the most delicious. The soup was also exceptionally good. By the halfway point, I was already full, but thoroughly satisfied. The breakfast was also impressive, with fresh sweet shrimp and fish dishes. Despite being full from the night before, I couldn't resist finishing everything. If you're lucky, you can even try your hand at shelling sea urchin, but unfortunately, there was no sea urchin fishing on the day I visited.

I stayed at Ryuko-so in Shikotsu-Kohan for sightseeing. This inn is run by a fisherman and his family. The dinner consisted mainly of fresh seafood, and each dish had a simple yet nostalgic taste that matched the ingredients perfectly. The most delicious dishes were the abalone, turban shell, and morning-caught squid sashimi for breakfast.

Arrived and purchased tickets for Shakotan's hot spring at the reception! There was a discount and it only took about 5 minutes by car to arrive. There was also an outdoor bath. When I entered the hot spring, my skin felt smooth and it was very refreshing. Back at the inn, I was surprised to find that there was no safe in the room, but I was able to relax comfortably. They called to let us know that dinner was ready, so we moved to the lower floor where a variety of dishes were waiting. I was surprised by how delicious even the dishes I don't usually like, such as sea squirt, were. Every dish was delicious and I especially enjoyed the flavor of the simmered mackerel. There were so many options that I didn't know where to start. For breakfast, they served fresh shrimp with a nice texture and dried hokke fish that was being dried outside. The miso soup was also delicious! There were various side dishes like salted sea urchin that went well with rice. The staff were all very friendly and provided excellent service. It was a wonderful inn experience.
