During lunchtime in the city, on a busy day with no time to stop and eat, I searched on Tabelog for a nearby restaurant where I could get takeout. I found a great place called "Kome Shin Nishioka Store," which opened on July 15, 2022. The restaurant specializes in koji and rice. It was founded as a grain merchant in Kushiro in 1948 by Tokuyama Matsuokao, who started with just his determination and a sack of rice. Now, the third generation continues the legacy of "rice, onigiri, and daifuku." The restaurant has two branches in Kushiro and this is the second branch in Sapporo after Kitago. Located about 500 meters west of Route 36 on Moiwa-Shiroishi Street, it has a welcoming and down-to-earth atmosphere, making it easy to enter. At lunchtime, there were two customers ahead of me, one of whom spent over 3,000 yen on onigiri. Inside the store, there is a section for onigiri, side dishes, and daifuku, as well as a corner for selling rice. I ordered "Sujiko @280, Tuna Mayo @160 (excluding tax)" and chose "white rice" from the options of white rice, brown rice, and mixed grain rice. The white rice used on that day was "Koshihikari rice from Niigata." The onigiri was quickly handed to me after being made in about three minutes. I enjoyed it in my car right away. The sujiko onigiri was slightly smaller than a Secoma or Hot Chef size, with fewer ingredients making the cost performance not the best. However, the well-balanced saltiness and the firmness of the rice made it a satisfying choice. While I can't say it's the best onigiri shop in Sapporo, it definitely ranks in the top three for me. I always end up getting onigiri, but I'd like to try their daifuku sometime. They offer a wide variety of rice types that can be purchased in 1kg increments. Although a bit pricey, I recommend the "Ryu no Hitomi 1kg @1,000 yen." I will definitely visit again at one of their locations. Thank you for the meal!
