When I travel, I always make sure to try the local dumplings. The parking lot was a bit hard to find and I got a little lost... but it seems they can only accommodate two cars, haha. The expiration date is today, which makes sense! The mochi was a firm four-piece set! They had a limited-time lemon filling available! I love summer limited edition lemon flavor! The owner came out and asked for a little time to spread the filling on the dumplings. They would prepare the dumplings once an order was placed by adding the filling. I also chose sesame, matcha, and mitarashi flavors! The matcha was really delicious, as you would expect from a tea shop. It wasn't like the matcha flavor you find everywhere, but a strong tea-flavored matcha filling. I should have bought more lemon and matcha... The lemon had a strong acidity that screamed "lemon!" haha. Thank you for the delicious dumplings.

I happened to stop by the store to buy bento boxes and remembered how delicious the "Matcha Genmaicha" from Kanoya-san that I used to buy repeatedly. The Chataro set includes mitarashi anko, matcha an, and apricot sesame dango. They are all so delicious with the perfect amount of sweetness and a soft, chewy texture. The refreshing lemon flavor was also great. It's been a while since I had such delicious dango. Next time, I'll try making mitarashi meat rolls. Thank you for the delicious meal!

◆Near Asahikawa Shijo Station, Kanoya Tea Shop, Odango◆
This was my first visit to Kanoya Tea Shop. It's located next to Marugame Seimen on 4th Street. There are two parking spaces available under the overpass. I actually received these odango as a gift and thought, "These are delicious," so I came to buy some. I purchased the Chataro set for ¥650 (includes mitarashi, anko, matcha anko, zunda, and sesame odango), as well as the three-color odango for ¥150 (limited edition until the end of May), matcha anko for ¥130, sakura anko for ¥150 (limited edition until the end of May), anko for ¥130, and kusa dango for ¥150 (limited edition until the end of May). These odango are really good. If you receive them as a gift, I'm sure you'll be delighted! The owner recommended making a reservation in advance (they were already sold out of popular skewers on this day). I tried a variety of flavors, but my favorites were probably the sesame and zunda. Actually, they were all delicious. Highly recommended!

"I haven't been to the Wagashi shop 'Ochadango Kanoya' before, so it's great to hear that it's no longer there. I think I made a note based on someone's review. I went to Asahikawa alone and I was served pretty quickly. Today my wife is working late, so I'll take my time going back. So, I decided to go to Asahikawa, even though it's a bit far. The note mentioned that it's a rare shop that sells both dango and tea. I wonder if people actually eat dango and tea together? I'm an old man who tends to think about unnecessary things. Actually, I've been here before but they were sold out. This time, I came right after they opened. I'm not sure which one is the main focus, tea or dango. I didn't realize they have parking space for about three cars. The staff came out and said, 'Do you have dango today?' and he replied, 'Yes, we have dango today!' I hinted at my previous visit, but he didn't catch on at all. So, I decided to get a set. Who will eat all of this anyway? When I asked which one to eat, I could have the mitarashi or anko, but I won't have any left for myself. Oh well, it's fine. A cute mother with children came in. The dango was delicious with a good mochi texture and tasty anko filling. The mitarashi sauce had a decent flavor, not too overpowering, allowing the dango's taste to shine through. The anko was smooth and not too sweet, more suitable for me. It was indeed delicious dango. On the way back, I saw a family enjoying soft serve ice cream in front of the shop."

Near Asahikawa Shijo Station, there is a tea shop. After the renovation, they started selling rice cakes and drinks. Shall we stop by and buy some rice cakes? Inside, on the left side, they are selling rice cakes at the counter. There are now 8 varieties available, including "zunda, isobe, anko, sesame, shiroan," each priced at 110 yen per piece except for isobe at 120 yen. I ordered one of each to put in a pack of 5. Since there is no eat-in space, I decided to enjoy the rice cakes in the car. It was a hot day, so I also ordered a "hojicha latte" for 350 yen. The owner kindly handed it to me, and I enjoyed the hojicha latte in the car. The hojicha latte had a nice roasted tea flavor that paired well with the milk, creating a refreshing drink. When I got home and opened the rice cakes, I noticed that there were no grill marks on them. Reading the owner's Instagram posts, I found out that due to certain circumstances, they were not able to grill the rice cakes for a while. Despite the lack of grill marks, the rice cakes were delicious. The anko rice cake had a traditional sweet red bean paste, and the rice cakes had a satisfying texture. The sesame rice cake had a subtle sweetness and was topped with seaweed. Surprisingly, the isobe rice cake was quite tasty. The most delicious one was the zunda rice cake, with a chunky texture from the mashed edamame. I usually buy tea at the supermarket, so I rarely visit tea shops, but having a rice cake shop attached to it might attract more visitors!

I had no connection with the tea shop, but they started selling dango, so I made a connection (lol). The place is called "Kanouya" and it opened (or maybe renewed) on April 24, 2021. It is located at 18-jo 4-chome, Asahikawa City. You can find the map here: https://goo.gl/maps/FXZogujMaf1gVuVM7. They are open from 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Mondays. They have parking and offer takeout. For the current status regarding opening hours, closures, or takeout services, please contact the store directly. You can also check their official Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/kanouya_chaho/. I wondered if they had parking, and indeed there was a parking sign in front of the store. The parking area is a bit far, but I didn't mind walking on that sunny day. The shop used to be a tea shop called "Kanouya Tea Store," and now they have a booth selling dango. They offer 7 types of dango, but it seems like they are adding more according to their Instagram and Facebook posts. They also serve tapioca drinks. I bought Mitarashi dango for 110 yen tax included and Zunda dango for 110 yen tax included. The packaging is impressive, and it seems like they have received some branding consultation. I tried the Mitarashi dango first, and it was a standard and mild taste that anyone would enjoy. Then, I had the Zunda dango, which was also good. Overall, the dango had a typical texture and size. If the store was within walking distance from my home, I might visit occasionally. Nowadays, convenience store and supermarket dango are also becoming delicious, so specialty stores and individual shops are making efforts to stand out. They are introducing new products one after another, so I look forward to what they will offer in the future.

The tea shop that used to sell tea has reopened with a new look and now offers sweets as well! They have 5 types of skewered dumplings for 110 yen each, but you can also get the "Chataro Set" for 550 yen which includes all 5 types. The skewered dumplings have a dry surface and a firm texture inside, with flavors like sweet soy sauce, red bean paste, matcha bean paste, sweetened edamame paste, and sesame. They are easy to buy as they are pre-packed. The flavors are traditional and quite sweet. They also have tapioca milk tea with a Japanese twist that they jokingly say doesn't look very appealing.
