The restaurant "Natural," specializing in game dishes such as bear and deer, has joined the fourth-floor lineup of Joyful Sakko Alley, and it is entirely non-smoking. I am grateful for the chance to experience this place! ✨ I wanted to try bear meat before attending a certain sake event, so I made a visit. The last time I came, I was disappointed to find the place closed early despite being within business hours on a weekday when there were no customers. However, I made a reservation through Hot Pepper this time, so I was sure it would be open.
The interior is lovely and has the fresh feel of a new restaurant. I also appreciated the staff, who occasionally engaged with me during my visit. For today’s sashimi, I had tuna, specifically the high-quality hon-maguro, which included both red and medium fatty parts. Both were delicious! I started with a drink of Japanese whiskey, Hibiki, on the rocks, and then switched to Tadasake Tokubetsu Junmai, which was also delightful.
I got to see a photo of a bear hunted in Betsukai Town, and indeed, bears are enormous! This time, the bear meat was seasoned with garlic salt and wasabi salt. The texture was firm and had a chewy bite, releasing the rich flavor of the bear meat with each chew. There was no gamey taste at all; it completely defied my preconceived notions about the unique flavor of bear meat. The owner, who is also the hunter, mentioned that he processes the bear and deer quickly, ensuring that no gamey smell remains, allowing them to serve delicious bear meat at the restaurant.
Although the cost was somewhat steep and I wished to share the experience, I decided to splurge on my solo outing. I had shabu-shabu with sliced deer meat, accompanied by condiments like salted kelp, shiso, and myoga, as well as other seasonings. The sliced deer meat, including loin and custom-aged versions, had a refreshing and healthy flavor, with no gamey taste. The vegetables included simple enoki mushrooms and green onions, and I enjoyed the three types of deer meat in the light kombu broth. Adding shiso, myoga, and other seasonings to enhance the original flavors was delightful, and ordering rice to complement this made it all incredibly delicious.
Overall, the cost exceeded 8,000 yen, making it a pricey meal, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the game dish restaurant "Natural."
