In search of delicious ramen, the wandering ramen lover Washio visits the popular restaurant "Tokouan HIGASHI," known for its Chuka Soba and donburi dishes. It has been about 4 years since his last visit. The restaurant is located at 1st floor of the Cattleya Building, just across the street from Osaka Ohsho, behind the large shopping center "Tetsu Higashi Shopping Center" in Sapporo's Higashi Ward. Unfortunately, there is no parking available. Upon entering around 1 PM, Washio chooses the default Chuka Soba for 590 yen from the menu. The restaurant is known for its Chuka Soba and Tori Chuka Soba, priced at 590 yen each. They also offer various donburi dishes such as Katsudon, Tendon, and Chashu Don for 390 yen each. Washio orders the Chuka Soba and waits in line for his turn. The small restaurant is crowded with only counter seats, and there are two groups of customers waiting ahead of him. The staff prepares the ramen while customers wait, and serves it promptly once they are seated.
Tokouan HIGASHI, formerly known as Hoppeya Hanare Tokouan, was established in 2008 by the owner, a Japanese cuisine chef, under the name Hoppeya. In 2012, the restaurant relocated behind the Higashi Ward office and became a popular spot. In 2017, a second branch named Tokouan was opened, and in 2021, a third branch called Tokouan SHINKOTONI was established in Kitaku Shinkotoni. The original owner moved to the new branch, and the Higashi branch is now managed by another chef. The restaurant has a branch in Ota, Gunma Prefecture called Tokouan OJIMA. Washio enjoys the Chuka Soba, served with a clear and flavorful soy sauce-based broth, chewy noodles, and well-balanced toppings. The chashu is tender and tasty, and Washio finishes every last drop of the soup. He plans to try the Tori Chuka Soba and Tare Katsudon on his next visit. The delicate flavors of Tokouan HIGASHI's ramen, crafted by a Japanese cuisine chef, impressed Washio.
