A new restaurant called "Kanonosato" has recently opened. The interior has a Japanese theme and a calm atmosphere, with the hostess welcoming guests in a kimono. On the counter, there are various simmered dishes displayed on large plates. I started with the Hokki butter, which was delicious with just the right amount of butter. Next, I tried the sashimi of striped jack, sailfin sandfish, silver halibut, and black halibut. The hostess's husband works at a fish market, so the fish dishes were especially tasty. All the sashimi was delicious, but the striped jack and black halibut stood out with their rich flavor. I also had the simmered flounder, which I found surprisingly delicious, maybe it's my age showing that I now appreciate simmered flounder. A few customers were ordering the "nikujaga" (meat and potato stew), which seemed to be a popular dish at the restaurant. I decided to try it, and it truly lived up to its reputation. The seasoning was excellent, and I even had a second serving. Next time, I plan to bring a container and take some nikujaga home. If you ever visit, I highly recommend trying the nikujaga.
