After climbing, I went to Kurodake no Yu and had a meal. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and pork bowl set. Despite the current situation, the price was reasonable at 1,250 yen, not inflated for a tourist spot. I was impressed by their fairness. Also, the ice-cold water was very delicious.

I stayed at Souunkyo after a long time. I had a hard time deciding where to stay, as there were no cheap plans with 2 meals like in the old days. I ended up staying with a plan that included breakfast. Due to this, I planned to eat dinner outside, but there were only 2 restaurants serving ramen, one of which I chose. The restaurant was empty except for one other group when I arrived around 6 pm. I ordered a soy sauce ramen with a mini pork bowl set for 1200 yen including tax. The ramen had a lot of lard on top, but I asked for less fat, and they were able to accommodate my request. The ramen was served quickly, and it was delicious even without the lard. The pork bowl had two thin slices of pork, which were a bit tough. The sauce was also lacking in flavor. Overall, the ramen was tasty, but the pork bowl was disappointing. The soup in the ramen was flavorful, and the meal was satisfying despite the small portion of rice. I hope they can improve the quality of the pork to make it more enjoyable for everyone.

Miso Ramen for ¥800 - I decided to visit this restaurant based on reviews, and it was really delicious. I went there on a Saturday afternoon, and the weather was cloudy with the ropeway closed. Maybe because the ski resort was inaccessible, there was only one other customer in the restaurant. This place offers simple options with no toppings, just soy sauce, salt, miso ramen with two levels of spiciness, soba, pork bowl, and curry. I enjoyed the soup so much that I finished every drop without any toppings to distract from the flavor. It may not be easy to get to this place, but if I'm in the area again, I would love to have another bowl. Thank you for the meal.

Restaurant review of a dining spot in Sounkyo Onsen Street. I went there for lunch to see the slightly early autumn leaves in Sounkyo. The interior of the restaurant is a cafeteria style with a counter and table seats, but there are also a few outdoor tables in front of the restaurant where I was seated. The menu mainly consists of ramen, but they also offer soba, curry, pork bowls, and other rice bowl dishes. I ordered the most popular dish which was the "Soy Sauce Ramen with Mini Pork Bowl (1100 yen)" verbally. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The ramen and soup were hot with an oily film on the surface. The noodles were slightly curly and made with low hydration. The bamboo shoots and chashu were decent. According to the restaurant's description, the noodles are made with local ingredients using 100% natural sea salt from the underground water of Daisetsuzan, and the soup is made by simmering the bones of locally produced "Gorge Flavored Pork" to create a flavorful soup. Although there seemed to be a lot of emphasis on using local ingredients and unique flavors, personally, I didn't feel the richness or umami as expected. It was a bit disappointing for me as the double soup with low hydration noodles tasted like Asahikawa ramen, but not quite there. The pork bowl was also nothing special, both the pork and the sauce. Overall, while it wasn't terrible, considering the emphasis on quality, one would expect more. (Tastes vary, though...)

Mountain vegetable miso ramen (1000 yen) - A combination of thick miso soup and slightly chewy egg noodles. The texture of the matsutake mushrooms and mountain vegetables adds a nice touch. I'm not sure what types of mountain vegetables are included, but there are several varieties and I am satisfied. The chashu pork is juicy and not dry. This ramen is very simple but of sufficient quality, especially after a mountain climb. It would be a great place for those staying at a hot spring resort to visit after drinking alcohol.

The only ramen shop open in the onsen town of Sounkyo. I'm sorry, but don't expect too much when you visit haha. It's probably Asahikawa ramen, but I went for miso flavor on purpose. I tried the soup without high expectations. Delicious!!! It's really tasty! It deserves even higher ratings! I recommend this place! It would be perfect if they served the soup piping hot!

Kotori traveled from Asahikawa to Sounkyo. They enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the autumn leaves with the Kurodake Ropeway in the morning, and now it's time for lunch. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, some shops were closed, but out of the noticeable three, Kotori chose to dine at a ramen restaurant. After walking a lot, they were also interested in rice bowl dishes, so they ended up ordering a set meal. They had soy sauce ramen and a mini pork bowl. The soy sauce pork bone broth had a stronger pork bone flavor than soy sauce. The noodles were easy to eat, being medium-thick and straight. The mini pork bowl had a slight grilled aroma, using pork shoulder with a sweet sauce. It was light and not too heavy. They also had a special spicy miso ramen and a mini curry. The spicy miso ramen was quite spicy, with a strong kick from red pepper and garlic. The combination of miso and spice worked well together, but the ingredients were the same as the soy sauce ramen. It would have been nice to have some stir-fried vegetables with this type of miso ramen. The mini curry was just a standard addition to the set meal for a quick lunch at a tourist spot. Thank you for the meal.

On our first visit to Asahikawa, I thought of ordering soy sauce ramen, but ended up ordering a pork bowl set. When it was brought to us, I thought it looked just like my miso ramen! I pointed out the color difference to my mother, but when we tasted it, it was definitely soy sauce ramen. The soup was delicious too, just the color was different. I told my mother this, and without saying a word, we switched our half-eaten ramen bowls. Well, that's just how we are. I wonder if the soy sauce ramen looked more appetizing to her (^_^)

Category: Favorite Izakaya (Hokkaido/Tohoku) Today is mountain climbing day. It's time for a rematch with the mountain that I had to give up on at the 8th station last time. I've been training at the sports gym, running up a 15-degree incline. Let's have lunch before we head out. I'll sit at a table at "Daisetsuzan Shokudo". They have beer and sake on the alcohol menu, but I'll resist. I'll have the pork bowl, please. The main menu items are ramen, soba, and curry. For rice bowl dishes, they have pork bowl and beef bowl. The pork bowl, which comes with miso soup and pickles, is packed with meat. The sweet and savory sauce goes well with the rice. It was delicious. Now, I'm fully charged up. Let's head to the mountain. Thank you for the meal! "Daisetsuzan Shokudo" in Kamikawa Town, Hokkaido. Open from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

On the 4th day of our Hokkaido trip, we left our uncle's house in Obihiro and headed to Asahikawa in a rental Hiace van. We took a break at a hot spring town along the way, which seemed quiet with remnants of its former glory. For lunch, we had ramen - I ordered the special medium-spicy miso ramen for ¥800. My wife and kids had soy sauce ramen. The noodles could be upsized for an additional ¥100, which was very reasonable. The soup was warm and delicious, with just the right amount of spiciness and a rich tonkotsu miso flavor. There was a hint of garlic that added to the taste. We also tried the tonkotsu shoyu ramen, which was equally delicious. When we asked the staff about the secret to their tasty ramen, we learned that all their ramen is made with a tonkotsu base, using a blend of pork bones, chicken bones, vegetables, and seafood for the broth. My kids also ordered curry, which was surprisingly tasty. The staff mentioned that they use locally sourced vegetables and simmer them until they melt into the curry. I consider myself a curry connoisseur, and I highly recommend trying the curry here. It was a delightful surprise to find such a dedicated ramen shop with such attention to detail.

This is a review of a restaurant located in Sounkyo Onsen town in Kamikawa, Hokkaido. I had to make a last-minute reservation for accommodation in Sounkyo, so I informed the hotel that I would be checking in late after having dinner elsewhere. While driving along the road from Toma-cho where I made the reservation, I was looking for a place to eat, but before I knew it, it was pitch dark outside with no sign of any restaurants. I was worried that I might have to settle for a convenience store bento, but then I saw the lights on at this restaurant in the onsen town. I quickly parked my car in the free parking lot and went in. Since it was late, there were no other customers. I was concerned about being turned away, but they welcomed me without any sign of annoyance. Feeling relieved, my hunger suddenly hit me, so I ordered the "Special Spicy Miso Ramen" set with a side of "Mini Curry." The ramen had simple toppings of chashu, menma, and green onions, with curly noodles that were closer to Sapporo style than Asahikawa style. The noodles had a good texture, and the rich and balanced miso soup was not as spicy as it looked. As I ate, I felt my body warming up and started to sweat. The curry was mildly spicy with a rich flavor that reminded me of a comforting home-cooked meal. Most of the time when staying at an onsen hotel, dinner is provided at the hotel, so I was glad to have the opportunity to enjoy a meal like this.

When you come to Hokkaido, you definitely have to eat ramen. This ramen shop was visited on the way to Asahiyama Zoo. It's in the mountains on the way from Lake Akan. There was still snow piled up on the side of the road. It was so cold (laughs). There's a 10-degree difference between Hokkaido and Kagawa, and the cold from the snow is harsh (laughs). So, when it's cold, warm up your body with ramen. Arrived at a large parking lot and there were hotels (probably not open) and a ropeway, but I don't know if it's operating. There was only one ramen shop and a diner-like restaurant open for business. The ramen shop was busy because it was cold. Ordered simple soy sauce ramen and miso ramen. The ramen arrived. At first glance, I was surprised. I couldn't tell the difference between soy sauce and miso (laughs). The staff probably knew, but it was completely unclear from the appearance. Took a bite of the soy sauce ramen. Delicious. It looks rich, but it's very mild and the medium-thick curly noodles are amazing. I want to carry just the soup in a thermos (laughs). The chashu was also sweet and delicious with fat. I'm not a big fan of miso ramen, but the miso ramen here was a hit for me. The miso ramen was not too strong and mild, and my child drank it all up. We didn't order it, but the pork bowl seemed to be delicious as everyone around us ordered it. It feels really happy when you randomly stop by a place and it turns out to be a hit. Thank you for the meal.

The posting was on hold, but the restaurant was actually open! I happened to be driving through Sounkyo around lunchtime and got hungry, so I remembered there used to be souvenir shops and ramen restaurants in Sounkyo Onsen town. I parked at a free tourist parking lot and went for a walk. Surprisingly, there weren't many people around for a Sunday afternoon. I spotted a ramen shop with a sign in the middle of the shopping street, but it was closed. I noticed a long and narrow dining street that seemed to be open, so I went in. There were two connected shops with large menu boards. I hesitated to go in, but when I opened the door, I was greeted and found out they were open! I ordered the ramen, not expecting much, but it turned out to be really good. The Asahikawa ramen had thin curly noodles and the chashu had a nice texture. It was a pleasant surprise! Even though the town seemed quiet on a Sunday, I would definitely stop by again for the delicious ramen. I wonder if the town gets livelier at night because it's a hot spring town?

Sounkyo is a hot spring resort located at the foot of the Daisetsuzan Mountains, known as the inner parlor of Asahikawa. There are only about three dining options for guests staying without meals, making this ramen shop a valuable find for those looking to eat late into the night. Upon entering, you will find a spacious open space with wooden tables, reminiscent of a ski resort, and a cozy ramen shop with about five tables. The ramen options include soy sauce, salt, miso, and Szechuan-style tantanmen, with the possibility of adding a mini pork bowl to your order. I ordered the soy sauce ramen and mini pork bowl set for 1,000 yen. The soy sauce ramen had a slightly cloudy, animal-based broth with a strong soy sauce flavor. The curly noodles soaked up the soup well, and the chashu and menma were decent. The mini pork bowl, a local specialty from Tokachi Obihiro, featured two large slices of pork loin on rice, but the lackluster sauce left much to be desired. Overall, a great spot for ramen after a night of drinking, with friendly and attentive owners who cater to both locals and foreign visitors.

I left Furano by car and first stopped at Ikutora Station. This station used to be called "Popoya" as Horomui Station. There were regular shops in town, but the area around this station had a nostalgic feel with just a few establishments. I then visited Karikomi Pass, Roadside Station Urimaku, Kanopir Lake, Mikuni Pass, and finally reached Sounkyo. We had planned to relax in a hot spring here, but since it was lunchtime, we decided to grab a bite to eat first. However, Sounkyo, which had already finished its autumn leaves season, was quiet with only a few dining options open. One of them was a ramen-focused restaurant. Since we planned to have Asahikawa ramen back in Asahikawa city later, we opted for a rice dish. We noticed a menu item called "Flavored Pork Bowl (900 yen)" on the wall. It was a dish of locally sourced pork marinated in Genghis Khan sauce and stir-fried on top of rice. It looked delicious, so we ordered it. The Flavored Pork Bowl arrived in about 8 minutes, topped with plenty of sprouts, resembling a ginger pork bowl. It tasted like Genghis Khan sauce, which paired well with the rice and was delicious, although it didn't seem very unique. However, since other open restaurants in Sounkyo didn't seem to offer anything distinctive, we were glad we chose this dish. It was a satisfying meal. Afterward, we decided to skip the ropeway as we could see snow-capped mountains and the autumn leaves were gone. We headed to a nearby hotel to soak in the hot spring baths. Later, we drove back to Asahikawa city.

I was thinking of having dinner in Asahikawa, but it seemed like it would be crowded at that time, so I felt like bypassing the city and heading straight home. I was considering either having ramen in Kamikawa, which is recently being promoted as a ramen town, or eating in Sounkyo and continuing on. As I was pondering this, I came across this restaurant. I thought it might be nice to try eating at a tourist spot for a change. The menu mainly consisted of ramen, with a recommended dish using local brand meat called Keigoku Aji Buta Don. I decided to try the local dish that was being promoted, the Keigoku Aji Buta Don. It was a dish with pork and bean sprouts stir-fried in Genghis Khan sauce served over rice. Oh, this is nice for a change. In Hokkaido, every household always has Genghis Khan sauce on hand (this is true). 70% use "Bell's Jin Tare" and 30% use "Solachi's Jin Tare" (this is baseless). When people run out of sauce while trying to grill pork or beef, they often use Jin Tare as a substitute (this is true). So, it was pretty much as expected. The taste of pork cooked in Jin Tare sauce. It might feel expensive at 900 yen for Hokkaido locals who are too familiar with it. On the other hand, it might be well received by tourists from outside the prefecture. The pork from Keigoku Aji Buta was tender and delicious.
