ガネーシャ
I visited the shop on a Saturday around 12:00 noon. The shop is located on the first floor of Nagasaki-ya in Otaru. This time, it was my first visit to Morimoto. Morimoto has its main store in Chitose, and it has quite a few branch stores, making it one of the representative sweets shops in Hokkaido. The cakes in the showcase had a bright and colorful atmosphere. Among the cakes, although it was in a corner, I was drawn to the "Rich and Generous" cake, so I decided to choose it.
- New Year Strawberry Shortcake 390 yen: The whipped cream was pleasantly sweet with a rich taste. The sponge was soft and fluffy. However, when I ate it the next morning after purchasing it, the bottom part of the sponge felt a bit dry. The top was covered with whipped cream, and the sides were covered with a transparent film, which prevented it from drying out completely. But since the bottom was covered with a paper sheet, it couldn't completely prevent it from drying out. So, it's best to eat cakes on the same day.
- Rich and Generous Tiramisu 430 yen: The portion was incredibly huge! It was about 3-4 times the size of a regular tiramisu you would get in other shops. The top half was a cream layer, and the bottom half was a sponge layer, making it a very simple tiramisu. The cream used was made from Hokkaido-produced mascarpone cheese. It tasted similar to the whipped cream in the Strawberry Shortcake, but somehow, it felt a bit different from the tiramisu cream I had in mind. The mascarpone cheese used is usually imported (mainly from Italy), so maybe the difference in flavor comes from using Hokkaido-produced mascarpone cheese? Also, the sponge part at the bottom was a bit disappointing. It felt too dense, as if it had been compressed. It's understandable that it would get heavier due to soaking up coffee or espresso, but compared to other shops, it was definitely too heavy. And it was a bit too sweet. Normally, the bitterness of espresso would balance out the overall flavor, but here, the lack of bitterness and excessive sweetness made it feel overly sweet and heavy.
- Rich and Generous Cheesecake 430 yen (A fluffy lemon-scented, rich-tasting cheesecake): The structure was the same as the tiramisu, with the top half being cheesecake and the bottom half being sponge. The description mentioned a lemon scent, but I didn't really get any lemon flavor, and the cheesecake part lacked the cheesy and acidic flavors. It seemed like a safe flavor profile aimed at the majority, including children. I prefer a bit more edge or a balance between sweetness and acidity. The berry sauce on top was overly sweet and lacked acidity. It was less sweet overall than the tiramisu, which was good. Well, considering the price, the portion size, and the quality, it's not realistic to expect the same level as other patisseries. Thank you for the meal. Thank you for reading today as well.
