The hotels in Sapporo were all expensive and full on Friday, so I chose a hotel in Tomakomai at the same price range. It's about an hour from Sapporo. It was a bit of a walk from Tomakomai Station. They seem to focus on breakfast, which was satisfying. They serve dishes like hot soup with scallops and curry topped with scallops (I couldn't taste the scallop flavor though) in various ways. It was enjoyable. The hotel has a communal bath with a traditional Japanese bathhouse feel, and the atmosphere is great. A wonderful business hotel.

I have never seen such a breakfast at a hotel that costs tens of thousands of yen per night, but it was the best I have had at a business hotel. It was not just good, it was surprising. The breakfast came in a two-tiered bento box with a variety of small dishes. In addition, there was a separate pot of tomato soup that was cleverly designed to be kept hot on a stove. When I saw the photos in Osaka, I thought it would be a regular buffet meal packed neatly in a box. But it turned out to be of amazing quality. Each dish was carefully prepared and truly delicious. It was not just a breakfast, it was like a high-quality dinner at a fancy hotel. And on top of that, there was curry. Originally it was supposed to be clam curry, but due to shellfish poisoning, it was scallop curry instead. The scallops were large and incredibly tasty. It was just amazing.

I visited a business hotel run by Noguchi Kanko Group because it has a good reputation. This hotel, which was renovated from Tomakomai Prince Hotel, has put effort into renovating not only the rooms but also the entrance and large communal bath. The highlight is the breakfast served here, which feels luxurious enough to make you wonder if this is a hot spring hotel. You can enjoy each dish visually, and they also serve Tomakomai's specialty Hoki curry, making it a satisfying experience. Thank you for the meal!

Had breakfast at the New Tomakomai Prince Hotel Wa. The 11th-floor observation restaurant serves as the breakfast venue. They do not offer lunch or dinner. Due to COVID-19, there was a limit of one person per table. Received a two-tiered bento box in exchange for the breakfast ticket and chose a table. Each table had a "Kitayose Nabe" (Northern-style hot pot) prepared in advance. Rice, salad, drinks, pickles, natto, dessert, and soup were self-served from the buffet corner. Sat at a table by the sunny window and started eating. Lit the small pot in the bento box with the provided chakaman. The bento box was large, filled with small dishes! So much food for breakfast! The hot pot was the only warm dish, and the rest were pre-made side dishes. Looks fancy and has a wide variety, like a breakfast at a hot spring inn, so families and couples might enjoy it. Clearly excessive for a business traveler (laughs). The Kitayose Nabe was a bit bland. There were too many dishes, couldn't finish half of them. Milk and non-premade coffee were delicious.

June 2019 Hokkaido Business Trip Part 2 On the morning of the 3rd day Last night, I arrived at Tomakomai Station close to 11 pm. It was about a 10-minute taxi ride to my accommodation, the New Tomakomai Prince Hotel Wa-Nagomi. I used it for the first time, and it had a sophisticated feel to it. It's no wonder, as I saw on their website that it was renovated and reopened on April 1, 2018. The breakfast venue was on one of the upper floors, in the observatory restaurant. It felt more upscale than usual. The first thing that caught my attention was when I picked up a tray, it said, "Please choose one. We will provide it freshly made." The choices were the addictive "Grilled Hokki Curry" topped with homemade Hokki powder, or the Hokki broth mountain vegetable soba (using home-grown soba) from the Japanese cuisine chef's recipe. When it comes to Tomakomai, Hokki curry comes to mind. The salad, which was set up as a mini buffet, was taken to the table, and then the "Wa-Nagomi Zenzai" was served in a double-tiered tray. When I opened it, I was impressed by the detailed contents. The menu was packed with items. [Two-tiered tray] <First tier> - Seasonal assorted dishes from Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisines - Japanese-style small dried fish sand with sand smoked salmon & cucumber with meat miso dressing Western-style clams in tomato basil sauce Steamed chicken curry flavor Chinese-style green asparagus - Caesar sauce Jellyfish salad <Second tier> - Sashimi, omelette, grilled fish... 6 types of standard morning side dishes - Morning sashimi - Curry & tuna - Chef's special rolled omelette Grilled Mekabu with miso sauce Edamame tofu - Yuzu miso sauce - Dried radish sesame salad All of them were well-prepared and delicious. [Tomakomai's specialty Hokki fire gourmet] Chef's special "Summer Hokki Soy Milk Nabe" with solid fuel to heat it up. It had a gentle and mild soy milk flavor with the texture of Hokki. In addition to the earlier choices and salad, there was the main Hokki curry. The curry was creamy and quite mild. Looking at the photo of the Hokki powder, I realized that it was there, but did I notice it while eating? I've always wondered about the meaning of Hokki curry. The curry itself was really delicious though. The breakfast turned out to be more luxurious than I had imagined. I probably won't stay here again, but I can confidently say that it's a great hotel with a fantastic breakfast.

Breakfast includes Japanese-style salad, soup, and dessert served buffet-style. In addition, you can also order dishes like Hokki curry and soba noodles, which will leave you feeling quite full. The view is also beautiful.

I visited the restaurant for lunch during a bus tour. The view from the 11th floor wasn't great due to the rain, but on a clear day, you can see all the way to the sea. I tried the Tomakomai specialty "Hokki Curry," which looked different from the famous shops but had two pieces of North Pacific clams on top. I don't usually eat shellfish, so this was my first time trying Hokki Curry. The curry was sweet with a hint of shellfish flavor, no spiciness at all, and even a toddler could eat it. The clams were grilled, but the flavor seemed a bit light, maybe they were frozen. I'm not sure if this restaurant is open to the public, but it would be nice to enjoy a drink while looking at the night view of Tomakomai. Thank you, 7 Star restaurant.
