"Vancle" in Kitami, just the two of us on a Friday we met in Kitami with Kinzuma and went on a food tour. I had planned to have ramen as the fifth stop after visiting three places, so I let my wife choose the fourth stop without any input on the selection of restaurants. The place my wife chose for the fourth stop was "Vancle," a wine bar. The interior of the restaurant was lovely. We sat at the counter and ordered different types of heavy wines. My wife selected two out of three options without hesitation, and the wines were promptly opened. I was a bit nervous about being charged for two bottles, but my wife, being the Kinzuma she is, remained unfazed. The wines, ranging from full-bodied to slightly lighter, were quite heavy and delicious. The wine was accompanied by a selection of biscuits that undoubtedly complemented the wine. When asked about the cheese platter, my wife mentioned she liked blue, goat, and washed-rind cheeses with unique flavors. The staff served a selection of cheeses that were not too strong in flavor but still paired well with the wine. The stylishly presented Iburi Gakko and cream cheese also paired nicely with the wine. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and a nice counter where we enjoyed our meal. My wife had been sniffing like a dog since we entered, and the spicy curry smell caught her attention, so we ordered it. The staff informed us they were running out of rice, but my wife insisted on just the curry. The staff eventually relented and said they had a little rice left, which turned out to be just the right amount for us. The spicy and delicious Keema curry was a hit with my wife. She enjoyed it a lot and mentioned wanting to come back to try the pasta that was on the menu. Finally, for the ramen, my wife said, "I already had Keema curry, so I don't want ramen," but she'll probably change her mind soon. That was the end of our drinking in Kitami for the day.
