Revisit. The place is less than 10 minutes by subway from the center of Sapporo. It is a factory with good access, a beer garden, and of course, you can eat Genghis Khan. This time, I visited the factory for the second year in a row. Last year, I went with my mother. This year, I came with a friend who is experiencing a factory tour for the first time in their life (excluding school field trips). This year (2016) is Asahi Beer's 50th anniversary. Therefore, in addition to the regular tour, we signed up for a special tour called "Amber Time" Cheers♪ 50th Anniversary Special Tour Part 3. The factory tour lasts 60 minutes (including videos) and a tasting session for 30 minutes, totaling 90 minutes. It's free. The factory tour itself was similar to last time. There were some quizzes along the way, and we learned about the 50th anniversary of the Hokkaido factory. There was also a detailed explanation about "Amber Time." Regarding the tasting: we could choose from "Super Dry," "Asahi Super Dry Black," "Asahi Dry Premium Rich," and the Hokkaido factory limited edition brew "Amber Time." We could have up to 3 drinks each. There were also soft drinks available, and the snack provided was "cheese rice crackers." The snack was a nice touch. Both my friend and I chose "Asahi Super Dry Black," "Asahi Dry Premium Rich," and "Amber Time." I'll try to describe the taste, although my palate may not be the most refined. "Asahi Super Dry Black" was lighter and more refreshing than I expected, as a fan of Guinness. It had a smooth finish that stood out. My friend, who usually doesn't like Guinness, ended up enjoying it and even ordered a second glass. They said, "This beer has a unique taste that lingers on the palate." It was great that they liked it! "Asahi Dry Premium Rich" had a fruity aroma with a subtle hint of hops. It was sweet on the palate, followed by a hint of bitterness. The taste was well-rounded. My friend mentioned that it paired well with the cheese rice crackers we got as a snack. The Hokkaido factory limited edition brew "Amber Time" was my favorite. I was looking forward to trying this one! During the factory tour, they mentioned it was a Dunkel type, which got me even more excited. Although I don't know much about beer brewing, I've noticed that Dunkel is usually a safe bet for my taste. The color was like a mix of black beer with a touch of red, and it looked beautiful when held up to the light. The taste was the richest of the three. It started with a light bitterness, followed by a blend of umami and sweetness. I could also taste some acidity. It had a roasted flavor that added depth. This beer had a complex and enjoyable taste. It might be best enjoyed without heavy snacks (the cheese rice crackers were too much). The beer offered a mix of sweetness, bitterness, and acidity in one glass, allowing for a slow, enjoyable drink. This was definitely my favorite among Asahi's beers. I used to like Asahi's premium beer "Fuji-san" about 20 years ago. It's no longer in production, but if I were to buy an Asahi beer now, it would be "Fuji-san" or "Amber Time." I preferred "Amber Time," while my friend liked the Rich flavor. However, there were some disappointments with the tasting this year, which led to a slightly lower rating of 3.3 compared to last year's 3.5. The pouring of the beer felt rushed this time, unlike last year. It was understandable due to the popularity of the tour, but still... Additionally, the tasting time felt rushed due to the event schedule.
