Located on a diagonal street, this set meal izakaya has a cute landlady managing it. I ordered the pork kimchi, which had a delicious sweet and spicy flavor and a generous portion. The appetizer included octopus, adding to the value. The total bill, including beer, came to 1600 yen. It was just right for a casual drink. Thank you for the meal.

In July 2023, I happened to pass by a quaint and old-fashioned izakaya near Sapporo Station East JR, just a 10-minute walk across the Sosui River. The worn-out appearance of the place drew me in, and I decided to go in without hesitation. The retro and calming interior of the shop with a counter lined with homemade side dishes is my favorite type of place. While individual dishes are reasonably priced, starting with a set is recommended. There are two types of "Evening Set": 1) One glass of draft beer with an appetizer for 700 yen, and 2) Two servings of sake in a tokkuri with an appetizer for 750 yen. The draft beer was refreshing and cold, perfect for a hot summer day. The appetizers included a selection of homemade dishes chosen by the owner, such as simmered dishes, edamame, and cucumber vinegar salad, which had a comforting home-cooked taste. Although I thought about ordering more dishes, I ended up just enjoying the drinks with my drinking buddies. I had two rounds of sake without any food. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this restaurant where I have been a fan of for a while. The soba shop across the street has a long line outside. The place has a counter and tatami seating, but it's small. The female owner runs the place by herself. The main attraction is the omurice. On Mondays, you can choose between beef and onion stir-fry or fried squid for 550 yen. On Tuesdays, there's a tripe stew set. Wednesdays offer a choice between katsudon or mixed rice bowl. Thursdays feature pork ginger stir-fry. And on Fridays, there's omurice, as well as omu curry. I ended up ordering the omu curry. The freshly cooked rice is shaped and placed on a plate. The omelette is skillfully cooked and placed on top of the rice, then warmed curry sauce is poured over it. It is served with soup, salad, and fukujinzuke. The omelette is perfectly cooked, and the curry with pork and onions has a nostalgic taste. The pumpkin salad is delicious, and the soup with onions and seaweed is also tasty. I want to try the omurice next time. (Dec 2019)

☆LP☆Visited for lunch on a weekday. Heard they had an ankake fried rice, but it turned out to be a fixed daily lunch menu. So, unexpectedly, I ended up with a sashimi dish... I sat down but no one came to take my order, and the sashimi was just brought to me automatically. The homely presentation by the grandma was quite amusing, and the octopus was frozen! The pickled ginger was not the usual ginger but red ginger, which was also funny. Without exchanging a word, I left the restaurant ★KG★☆LP☆. That's how it went (lol).

There is a small, quaint izakaya located on the commonly known "Sapporo Diagonal Street". The 500 yen daily special menu placed outside the restaurant catches the eye. It is primarily a takeout bento, but you can also dine in. On August 8, 2011, the Thursday special was "Chicken Teriyaki". The chicken served is not something you would want to feed to a chicken lover. Firstly, it's big. Not just in surface area, but also in thickness. The skin, slightly charred, is fragrant. The teriyaki sauce has seeped into the chicken, not just the skin. Despite its size, the flavoring is minimal and doesn't get boring until the last bite. A side of leek miso paste is provided on the plate, and dipping the teriyaki chicken in it enhances the flavor of the chicken. The 280g rice is served in a lemon-shaped "rice mound" style, making it a delightful presentation. It was a lunch not to be underestimated for 500 yen. In July 2014, I revisited the restaurant and due to the increase in consumption tax, the 500 yen lunch became 550 yen. The daily special was ankake fried rice. The moist fried rice was accompanied by a sweet ankake sauce. The rice's texture complemented the sauce well. It was a satisfying meal.
