[January 2017, End-of-Year Chirashizushi] I sat down with the intention of having a full meal, but something felt off, so I quickly paid and left. Still feeling hungry, I wandered around the underground mall and stumbled upon the Tobu Hokkaido Fair. It's being held from January 19th to 31st, and it's definitely worth a visit! There were various sushi restaurants participating, but I found this affordable and interesting bento box: the Asaichi Bento (1560 yen). It was a generous serving of sushi rice topped with fresh and delicious ingredients like sea urchin, salmon roe, snow crab, squid, salmon, scallops, and sweet shrimp. It felt like they were all from Hakodate, Hokkaido. According to the restaurant's website, Hakodate is a port town located in southern Hokkaido, known for its abundant seafood. The best ingredients are carefully selected daily, filling the display case with the finest seafood. And for price reference, I casually took a photo of the price display at the store front: Sea urchin: Chile, Salmon roe: Hokkaido, Snow crab: Canada, Squid: Korea, Salmon: Chile, Scallops: Hokkaido, Sweet shrimp: Russia. It was a fun experience with the Hakodate Asaichi Bento, even though I saw some unexpected origins for the seafood.
