Fish market. This is my first review, but I have bought fresh fish several times. Various fish are lined up according to the season. Hokke is really cheap!! I bought 3 pieces of Hokke that could be fried as they are for 400 yen, and also octopus... On this day, there was a single Hokke lined up, so I had it cut into 3 pieces. 2 pieces for 400 yen. The freshness is excellent. I simmered it in soy sauce and it was very delicious. There are also plenty of salmon roe and sea urchin for tourists. However, in Otaru's kitchen, local residents are lining up one after another, and the parking lot is full. After 2 PM, the market as a whole starts to run out of stock, so please be careful. Thank you for always providing fresh and delicious fish.

Whenever I go to Otaru, I always stop by the Nishin Goten Market if I have time (*^^*) I usually just look around the market, but sometimes you can find great deals on fresh fish! On this day, I found "dried octopus" which seemed to be in season. It was only available at this one particular shop in dried form. I have tried octopus sashimi and gunkan-maki before, but it was my first time seeing dried octopus, so I decided to buy it without hesitation! When I brought it home and grilled it, it was incredibly delicious with the perfect amount of fat! Other shops had prepared fish as well, but the fish at this shop looked the best (#^.^#) I will definitely visit again to buy something else! Thank you, Soinai!

In Nishi-Otaru Market, there are several fishmongers, each with their own specialties. At Sosai Fresh Fish Store, they recommend their fresh seasonal fish as well as their homemade dried fish. They have a drying room for drying the fish, and they even peel the squid skin here. They offer fresh fish like sailfin sandfish, flathead flounder, and fresh herring, and dried fish like sailfin sandfish and Japanese flying squid. I bought peeled whelk and boiled sea grapes. The whelk was peeled, but the bottom shell was still attached, so I thought it would be better to get the ones with shells. As for the sea grapes, they were seasoned with garlic flavor, which was not mentioned to me. If they had told me about the garlic flavor, I wouldn't have made a stew with bamboo shoots and butter. Both dishes tasted good though.

At the fresh fish store in Nishiarai Market, there was "Otaru-produced sea urchin" lined up. Sea urchin fishing was allowed on May 15 this year. I bought it right away. Otaru-produced sea urchin grown by eating kelp from the Sea of Japan. It was big and had a rich flavor.
