The oyster bar and restaurant "8TH SEA OYSTER Terrace" opened in October at the first floor of the Tokiwabashi Tower in TOKYO TORCH, just a 2-minute walk from Tokyo Station and a 5-minute walk from Nihonbashi Station on the Tokyo Metro. This establishment offers safe, high-quality oysters that can be enjoyed year-round, purified using a unique patented technology with deep ocean water. It is operated by Human Web Co., Ltd., which runs a total of 26 restaurants, including "Gumbo & Oyster Bar," "Kinkaukawa," and "Oyster Table."
Oysters, often referred to as the "milk of the sea," have been recognized for centuries as a source of nutrition and energy. However, because of the risk of "contamination," the restaurant has developed its own patented technology and established an oyster purification center in Inujima, Toyama Prefecture. By circulating deep ocean water extracted from a depth of 384 meters for 48 hours within the oysters, they minimize the contamination risk to nearly zero, while maximizing the umami flavor of the oysters.
For lunch, the menu includes fried oysters, oyster butter sauté with truffle sauce, two types of oyster pasta, salmon meunière, and sautéed lamb, served with oyster soup, salad, and rice or bread. There’s also an oyster course available. We both ordered the "Tomato Pasta with Oysters, Bacon, Eggplant, and Mozzarella Cheese."
For the soup, we had "Oyster Soup," which is rich in oyster flavor with a base of oyster broth and white dashi seasoned lightly with salt. The salad was a "Potato Salad," which was thick and included strips of carrot.
The pasta, "Tomato Pasta with Oysters, Bacon, Eggplant, and Mozzarella Cheese," featured simple ingredients: oysters, eggplant, ham, and mozzarella cheese in a tomato sauce. The balance of fresh pasta, tomato sauce, and ingredients resulted in a dish reminiscent of a highly refined Neapolitan pasta. There are also terrace seats available, which would be enjoyable on a sunny day.
