Sapporo, Hokkaido, Chuo-ku
"Sushi Kudou"
Theme: Hokkaido - Sushi
"Hey, how about going out for drinks together once in a while?"
"Yeah, it would be nice to relax and have a drink."
"Well, I'm tired of the headless bodies, so how about a sushi restaurant with a more adult atmosphere?"
"Oh, do you know of a place like that?"
"Of course, I'm always looking for those kinds of places for you!"
"That's so sweet... Let's go."
I have a senior acquaintance, Boo, whom I've known for a long time, and we decided to go out for drinks in Susukino instead of the headless place this time. We visited "Sushi Kudou," a place I had been to once with a lounge hostess, and I remember being impressed by the calm atmosphere and delicate presentation. However, I was too drunk to remember the taste, so I decided to take Boo there this time. We left it up to the chef to decide what to serve.
First, we had a flounder sashimi wrapped in scallions. The crispy texture of the flounder and the crunchy scallions went well together. We started with beer but quickly switched to sake.
Next was the tuna. It had a good amount of fat, somewhere between medium fatty and lean. It was really delicious.
Then, we had fugu. I didn't ask if it was tiger puffer or globe fish, but the thickly sliced flesh had a nice bounce to it, and the ponzu sauce was delicious.
The horse mackerel and shrimp battleship sushi were both excellent. The horse mackerel, in particular, is my favorite type of sushi.
The chef, Mr. Kudou, and his assistant were working behind the counter under the spotlight. The lighting highlighted their knife skills and sushi making, which was fascinating to watch.
We ended the meal with seared golden eye snapper, which was delicious with the fat melting on the surface.
Overall, it was a great dining experience, and I appreciated the late-night opening hours of the restaurant. I will definitely be returning in the future.
